Hi, Lauren.
I lived in Norway for years, and that hotel bathroom layout is the norm in many homes as well. The reason being privacy. Say, you're taking a shower, and a guest or family member needs to use the toilet at the same time. No need for either of you to wait. In fact, in many Norwegian homes there's a separate room for the toilet and sink, and in the bathroom another one along with the tub and shower. I loved it because of the reason mentioned. No need to wait for someone to leave the room.
