Seen these guys in the f4’s definitely a long lasting impression on a 10 year old boy. Lol my house started shaking, I ran outside to check it out and seen a f4 inverted so low I could see the pilot. I could barely wait to tell my dad when he came from work, well dad has passed, but memories are still here. Thank you for taking your time reading this 🙏🏻 may your god bless you and look over you

I Worked on the F-4 Phantom's. They were actually very maneuverable in the air and very fast. The Engines were the GE J-79s. They produced 17,500 pounds of thrust each and could push the F-4 to over Mach 2. One of the great characteristics of the F-4 Phantom was it's Boundery Layer Control system. That jet could fly very slow when that BLC was used in slow flight. They are one of my greatest Fighter Jets I had the opportunity to work on.

The F-4 "War Pigs" were too large, heavy, thirsty, smoky and maintenance-intensive to do a great job for the Blue Angels; like using a sledgehammer when what you needed a flying paintbrush. I worked on the F-4J Phantom in the Marines. Blue Angels were flying A-4 Skyhawks, "Hinemann's Hot Rod" when I was on active duty. The Skyhawk was as close to perfection of a.BA aircraft as the Navy/Marine Team has had; inexpensive, lightweight, sipped lightly on the jet fuel, low maintenance, subsonic, highly maneuverable and a true joy to fly by all reports. The Phantom was a remarkable aircraft for it's day, but the Skyhawk was so relatively cheap and easy to fly, that a civilian could dream to own/fly one themselves. Very few individuals could afford to fly a Phantom.
