A criminally underrated song. I remember when I first listened to the song and it just hit deeper compared to any other song on the album
One of my top 3 favorite MJ songs, along with Human Nature and She's Out of My Life. I always been a sucker for his ballads, they're simply incredible. Love his uptempo stuff too dont get me wrong, but his ballads literally sound like he came down from heaven to serenade us.

Iâm 10 months late to tell an anecdote about this but the second part of this song was total impro. After 30 takes, mj still wasn't happy with the way he'd improvised. So Quincy told him to go back there and sing as if he was begging the woman to stay with him. Michael was shy so he got back in the studio with curtains drawn so Quincy jones canât see him. And then in one take he gave us this masterpiece

The original demo has an extra verse but was edit it out in the Final Cut! MJ had the blinds down in the studio so nobody would see him perform it(same w/Sheâs Out of My Life). Wished he performed it Live during the Victory Tour(â84) and brought a girl on stage đ.

I think Rod Temperton wrote this song as a sequel to Always and Forever. Both of these songs express similar sentiments and have a similar feel. Give Rod some credit for writing two classic songs.

Fun fact: there is a longer version of this song. This song, in full, is about 6 minutes long with an extra verse and longer instrumentals. When the Thriller album originally was being pressed into the vinyls, they ran into an issue with the album running time being too long which made the sound quality sound awful. They had to make some changes at the last minute, including making this song shorter, to allow for the sound quality of the vinyl to be good. Idk if youâve listened to the full version before, but you can find it on CZcams. Itâs amazing!
I can see how those exquisite moments in the song affect you almost painfully because you are touched by them. Some music does that to me too, where I feel the song cradles me in it's arms in a loving way. That means you are a sensitive person and you connect with Michael.
In his autobiography, he talks about Quincy telling him he really needed to feel it at the end and had Michael do it over and over again. He ended up on his knees begging for her to stay before Quincy told him he got it.
I remember first hearing this when the album came out, and everyone talking about how sexy it was. MJJ had never sang a song like this, with such sensual overtones. It was definitely his statement of adulthood, no longer being a child star. For me, this and Human Nature are the best on the albumđđđ

You have to do Human Nature for sure, Jack! Another blissful ballad that cannot be surpassed in terms of how soothing it is. I mean...it's hard to describe sometimes, but his vocals and the melody hit you right in the heart. MJ is a master of delivering emotion. The extended version is what got me addicted. But definitely do the studio version first.

This may be his best song. Itâs definitely my favorite. By far. And this is like a B sides record.
There will never be anyone like him. There is something about his voice that had a smoothness to it and then he could jump into rough aggressive tone he could bring to the mix and his range omg so amazing. When I was younger I didn't truly understand this song, but I knew it was something special.
