It's good to see the first ocarina i ordered yesterday, is in the fantastic category.
at the end of the day i went with the stl Zelda ocarina because of 1 i like the dark blue 2 the triforce on the tip just looks way better. after having it for like a year or more it sounds really good
Could we please get a list of places to buy these, especially the ones at the higher end of the list? The only place I've found with consistent quality is STL and I'd really like to expand my collection.
Yay glad to see the songbird triple harmony as #1 😁. It's practically the only one I play nowadays. I hadn't considered that a bass ocarina fits better for jamming, gonna keep the imperial city triple bass in mind as a potential future purchase :)
I am still completely amazed by the fact that, without having ever watched a CZcams ocarina review, but only following my gut instincts concerning music shops, managed to buy as my two first Ocarinas two high quality ones you consider to be fantastic (I bought the black rose ceramic one as the one I wanted, and a plastic Bravura for traveling and to practice without worry - both made by Focalink but sold by Thomann, as I am from Europe). I was so worried when I heard that many ocarinas were actually bad, and these videos helped me reassure myself that I didn't waste money (I played on both already, but I am not entirely confident in my ability to judge whether a note is fine tuned). I really should have made more research before buying my ocarinas though, my move was rather risky 😅

Ooooh they're on this list! I'm glad the soprano maker reached out to you! I'd even be happy to reprint that one. Mine have been sounding quite nice imo. I genuinely think you'd appreciate them. A resin printer would probably make them perfect. But I don't have one of those yet.

Would like to see your take on the Tenrai Ocarina of Time if you ever manage to get your hands on one. They don't sell them anymore and I'm quite fortunate to have gotten one before they stopped selling.

This will be a fun video, I only own 3 so far but I aim to get a collection like yours!
I wanna learn to play Ocarina. I had some fun with Songbird 7-hole Ocarina of Time replica, but I quickly noticed that despite having less holes than classic 12-hole ocarinas, i feel like it's much harder to play. Because less holes, means weird combinations of fingers and like "half covering" some holes.
So now I want to get a classic single chamber 12-hole ocarina to buy and learn to play. What would be your recommendation? Bonus points if it's a Zelda replica but if I want good sound, and you think zelda replicas are a bad choice, please tell. I would love to get the Spencer Ocarina of Time but I see the shop doesn't work anymore. Please respond.
My friend bought the Ocarina that you putted on the "bad" category. Is the blue one that you can find on Temu for 11 dollars. Should I get a better one ? Because I really want to learn about this instrument and get a good sound. Should I get a better ocarina ? And if thatis the case, Where can I buy a better one ? (Sorry for the bad english, I'm from Spain and I'm still learning this language haha)
Where did you get the Korean Night by Noble? I have the Japanese one (with the split subholes) but I can find one with same side subholes.

I'm Curious on your thoughts on the 12 Hole Plastic STL beginner Ocarina. I have it as my starter 12 hole - and also looking at getting a Night By Noble soon-ish, when I can pretty safely afford it.
STL has good plastic ocarinas! My first was a 12 hole Zelda-themed plastic one from them. I don't have it anymore, but there was nothing wrong with it as an instrument other than an inconsistent high F

Trumpet was my first instrument. Having to clear ocarina spit sometimes was an easy pill to swallow

How feasible do you think it would be to 3d print bigger ocarinas? It feels like the biggest advantage of 3 printing would be to make plastic ocarinas in keys that are not available due to the cost of creating moulds for niche sizes. An alto f/g plastic ocarina would be super sweet.
@@maximedaneau3397 it all depends on who designs it. Im sure upscaling what exists will only end in failure unfortunately

the SLT plastic $70 (well 65) ocarina, the one you said was "controversial" xD even if you didn't say anything too bad about it, but i use it in a wind band orchestra (well it's not a pro one, just a local one in my town) and unlike ceramic ocarinas, they're crisper, which makes the sound be heard better when more instruments are playing around, i got it because every few years i'd break an ocarina xD well i broke 2 in total... but i don't see the problem with that one specifically, which makes me wonder if you just got a bad one... or maybe i'm just skilled as you said hehe xD
i don't use tabs, and i'm bad at sight reading but i have perfect pitch (untrained for notes, like i won't be able to say the note name but i can play what i hear and memorize music super easily) so anyways i play things like lindsey stirling musics by ear on ocarina... and i avoid playing zelda musics because to me it's boring... and everyone expects you to do so because it's what made it the most popular (even though there's also lugia and tapion and more and more pop culture things pushing it out there)
so yea... that specific ocarina i don't have any issues with and it does help in the case of being in an orchestra, ceramic ones tends to be quite smooth with their sound which makes it more difficult to hear or be precise sometimes
My only ocarina is a Zelda ocarina... And it does not have the best sound lol, but at least it's not unplayable! Planing to buy a better one in the future

How much does it matter if an ocarina is tuned to 442 if we fine tune pitch with our breath? I am looking to play some basic ocarina on my album and need it to be in tune with the band
Functionally, it means it forces lower breath pressure. If playing with other instruments, make sure you tune a few notes to get a feel for proper breath pressure for what's in-tune relative to the band, and re-tune briefly if it feels off.
