Sister Nancy aka Muma Nancy, bam bam 1982 one of my all time favorite classics that brings me great memories like all my songs. I will be uploading more on my reggae channel. ladyriddims / ladyriddims
Hey ...I love the first line ....I'm a lady not a Man...I find today with all this equality they want you to being shamed and prideful like a Man ...but there's no shame in our game ...
One of the most sampled songs of all time: When asked her opinion of the many songs that have used her voice over the years, Sister Nancy responded: "I don’t know if I hear all of them. They sample it so much times but none of them is my favorite. " What a legend!
This song is an instrumental sample of a Toots and the Maytals song "Bam Bam". It was called "toasting". A lot of b sides of early reggae records had instrumental versions as the b side so that other artists could "toast" over the instrumental version with their own lyrics. The root sample is from a song called "Stalag 17" by Ansel Collins. I believe if you were aware you would mean that Stalag 17 is one of the most sampled, which would be a true statement. Most of the songs you are probably referring to sample it and not this song. THIS IS BY NO MEANS THE ORIGINAL. Not trying to be uptight, just pointing this out. Most of the time Ansel Collins is not credited with the song and gets overshadowed as people insist the song comes from Sister Nancy which is not the case. She is amazing though.
@@doctorworm3735 but how are they sampling stalag 17 if they are literally sampling the audio from this song? i just listened to that song you mentioned and it contains no "bam bam" lyrics which is what people are sampling
@@doctorworm3735 The hook ‘’bam bam’’ is inspired by Toots and the Maytals (although she wasn’t the first one that used the Bam Bam idea) but this song is not an instrumental sample from that. You are however right about the Stalag riddim which indeed is from Stalag 17 by Ansel Collins.
I met Sister Nancy last night 🌃 She is an absolute legend. "I come to Israel with a Mic in my hand, I am solid. S-o-l-i-d solid." She's truly empowered. 62 and raps on stage!
this song reminds me of my dad and step mom. My dad was heavily invested into Jamaican culture and my step mom was a witch. Every time I hear this song I smell incense and sage and feel a breeze (we always had the windows open in our house lol) good old times ♥️♥️
Just heard this for the first time at the pool while on vacation in Jamaica. It stuck in my head and I had to google to find it when we got home. Was shocked when I saw how long ago it originally came out. Way ahead of its time
You can slightly hear the main track bleeding into the mix at the beginning. Then it peaks out for a second of bass, back to a faint main rhythm track, and it comes back in nicely complimenting Sister Nancy's flawless flow, and I'm locked into this groove forever. Love, respect to Jamaica, peace, and One Love!
Try 30-odd, I heard this joint back in either 89' or 90. Just thought of the words, looked on here and voila! It's here! And I just smoked a joint of some redneck wedding and another of lemon oreoz.....I've listened to this shit about 9 times on loop, lololol!
