  • Wacom vs Huion vs XPPEN. 24" pen displays face off! I'll cover everything from connectivity, line tests, to specs to help determine which is the best option for your digital art needs. Note: Since both XPPEN and HUION 4K versions use the same pen, you can use this as reference as well.

    Thank you so much for this test. Few reviewers dive into the main aspect of any pen display, which is draw performance, line behavior, and so on. You did and in an expert and insightful way. Great job. And yes, the Cintiq is better, but boy, you gotta pay a hefty price for it. What about the fan issue with the Cintiq, BTW?

    • @CreateNowSleepLater
      @CreateNowSleepLater  Před rokem

      I do get a comment now and again about people complaining about the fan. I always ask themn if they turned the setting down to low in the driver. Its hot as hell in my room and my fans literally never come on so I don't know if its a YMMV thing.

    • @Minsetti
      @Minsetti Před rokem

      @@CreateNowSleepLater My Cintiq pro 24's fans woke up just today from their hibernation when the room temperature reached 23 degrees Celsius. Two high rpm side fans were not spinning during the winter when it was 21 C inside. Only the always on middle fan was spinning during the winter but it's reasonably quiet, not silent but the sound it's bearable.
      The Cintiq will become totally unbearable to listen to as the summer approaches and all of the fans will be on almost all the time.
      And obviously I have set the fan speed to the low setting but it only affects the fan curve a little bit and keeps the side fans from spinning for 10 minutes after the display is turned on.
      My workspace is silent apart from the Cintiq (my pc is totally silent) and my hearing is still excellent so I don't know. Either it comes down to the ambient noise in your workspace or the hearing ability or how much noise you are able endure while working or maybe the Wacom quality control is just terrible.

      I reviewed the first version czcams.com/video/MZAvtmejENc/video.html The drawing experience is exactly the same. They tweaked the screen settings and removed the need for the Wacom Link so that is great. The same holds true for the Xp-pen pro. I reviewed the non 4K model and loved it. I dont feel like the drawing experience gap is what it once was. Some people though, if they have the money, prefer to go with the Cintiq. Thats why I stay neutral.

    I am currently looking at the Huion 22" 1080p with etched glass and XP-Pen 24" 1440p with anti glare film Pro tablets.
    I dont want to regret buying an inerior piece of tech so i wonder if 1080p would be sufficient at 22" or if i should go for 1440p at 24" straight away.
    My last computer monitor before i started drawing was a 32" 1080P screen and in the last years i noticed more and more that blurryness was a thing but i got to say that was 32" vs 22".
    So now i wonder if a 22" 1080p drawing tab would be sufficient and how your experiences are with devices of these or siimilar specs.
    Also: Would the XP-Pen andti glare screen OK to use compare to the etched glass?

      32" monitor NEEDS 1440p MINIMUM, with 4k as the sweet spot.

      I'm using huion kamvas Pro 24 and huion kd200 at the same time. The latest V15 driver can support two devices at the same time, but it is not ideal to switch them manually.
      When I use Photoshop, Sai, krita and other software to draw, when I switch the device, there will be a bug, the specific performance is the lack of sense of pressure or unable to draw lines, which needs to restart the drawing software to solve. But when used in ZBrush, it can switch smoothly.
      Another common fault of huion driver is that when using ZBrush, when opening the new version of Photoshop, the pressure of ZBrush will be disturbed, the lines will become intermittent, and when closing Photoshop, it will return to normal.
      These two defects should be driver problems. I have contacted the technicians over there and I don't know if I can solve them.
      I use a translator.

No regrets tho when I got it I wasn’t sure I needed one at all. Now it’s an essential tool. • @DanielRedgrave
      @DanielRedgrave Před 2 lety +4

      I run an animation studio, wacom support is the worst of all the other brands out there, we've purchased dozens of cintiqs, and almost all of them died within 2 years, half of them barely made it 6 months in, wacom only honored the warranty on a couple even knowing it was build problems and wacom cheaping out on the internals that was generating the issues, warranty Replaced them with new units that failed in a couple of months so the only way to keep them operational was to constantly mash toghether the working components or importing generic parts and modding them...
      The 120 units of mixed , bosto, xp pen and huions we got roughly at the same time are still going strong and i'd say 90% have never been serviced or repaired, having outlived 2 different wacom batches thats easily costed 3X as much.
      wacom is great, WHEN IT WORKS! and my case is not that rare, just look up the 24 model it has complete third party kits to replace the wacom cheap build parts, replacement panels, power button, power board, ports and power bricks. even in warranty they wanted to charge for repairs, like 900 usd for a panel replacement, 300 for the power board, 250 for the power brick... we just ended up fixing it ourselves with imported parts, but still added extra cost to almost all of the already pricey units.
      with the new generation of huions i see no need for ever buying a wacom. even if we replace every huion once its still a better deal, we are already in the process of replacing the couple of slowly dying wacoms that remain with the new 4k huions.

      I think existing owners, it gets to a point of diminishing returns. It’s not like your pen will stop working. The biggest improvement I think is parallax and pen accuracy. If you are good with that on a current device, it makes no sense to upgrade. Now these are 24” displays so there is an increase in resolution which is an obvious benefit. In regards to xp-pen and Huion. They have made huge advancements in the last couple of years. Wacom has too so if you were comparing the older Wacom 22hd to a new Huion, that Huion is going to have a lot less parallax. So if we see a Cintiq vs. argument, it really depends on which Cintiq. Then of course, if that working for you, I agree there is no reason to upgrade.

Wacom has the most mature pen but you can see from the tests that the other 2 are more than capable. Things like pressure curve can be adjusted. Initial activation is probably in Wacoms favor on the light end but these aren’t world changing, unless they are to you. There is a cost to that though so it’s really up to the buyer. @@ignatbivol7633 I think unless you color correct is with a spyderx or something, its hard to be sure. I know the Huion 4K steps up to 140% sRGB. Those number start to get higher than Cintiq but I'm not sure what exactly you are experiencing. I reviewed that XPPen you have and it is aimed at a budget market. Did you just get it?

    I want to get my girl a tablet to draw on. She uses photoshop on a 2 in one computer that doesn't have a lot of power. She is really good so I wanted to get her something that has the power to go with her ambition. I would just get her a ipad pro and call it a day because all artists seem to swear by them but ipad doesn't support traditional photoshop which my lady and I prefer to use for it's photo manipulation capabilites. So ipad won't cut it. Which leads me to my question. Does all 3 of these tablets run on their own power? For example I don't need a powerful computer for them to plug into and run off of? If not. Do they make something like that? Something that's powerful and semi portable like ipad but runs PC programs mainly photoshop. Thanks in advance.

      So I’m most cases a pen display runs on its own power, meaning a plug into the wall. Some of the small ones can run off USB. When you say powerful computer, you mean like the computer itself? The pen display doesn’t care as long as you have the right ports(hdmi, usb or whatever). The computer needs to be strong enough to run whatever software she uses. If the computer runs photoshop now, it’s fine. There isn’t much out there that is an all in one other than laptops. I’m not a big fan of them. The only other total, portable solution is the Wacom mobile studio. It’s a ton of money but that is all there is that isn’t an iPad. IPad does have procreate and clip studio. You can also run affinity photo so I’d look at them as well. I have a few iPad related reviews on the channel. Hope that helps.

    • @CreateNowSleepLater
      @CreateNowSleepLater  Před 2 lety +1

      The way I usually go about recommendations is usual budget first. The gap between the pen experience is no what it once was. When you are talking about other things, sone folks will have buyers remorse if they think they settled. Any of the three will do the job but if money is no object, go with the Cintiq. $1,200 is a lot so worth it subjective. You can’t do any better than that though.

      They did..but they partnered with Dell for it and called it the Dell Canvas. It had the Wacom 27" screen but a custom dell pen. Touch and this totem thing that runs like the surface dial.
      I foolishly purchased one. Worst purchase ever. It's a great device but Dell is Dell and has completely dropped ALL SUPPORT for it. Sure you can get 4 year old drivers that still work. But you can't get nibs, you can't get replacement pens. because DELL considers them "consumables" My pen died 6 months before my warranty expired DELL would not replace it nor could they even sell me a replacement so I have a REALLY expensive Touchscreen monitor now.
      It was cool while it lasted though, Mini DP, Mini HDMI, USB-C (Data + Video+ Sound) In and 2 USB + 1USB-C and headphone out. It was much better equipped, thinner and overall a bit of a step up over the original Wacom 27.

      They are different use cases. I have both and did a few reviews on the iPad and screen protectors. I’m actually doing a review of the sketchboard pro for iPad now. I would definitely be interested in a larger iPad but it would be north of 2k for the mid range version for sure. Even the 2021 model. The 16GB/1tb model is $1799. You could get a great laptop and a 22” pen display for that. The iPad of course is mobile but you know what I mean. I wish they would just update iPadOS to be better. The thing has an M1 now. It’s as powerful as a MacBook but gimped by the OS. People thinking they will put macOS on there are crazy. No way they are giving up their monopoly on the App Store. It’s not happening.

You have to try different things or people just jump to the end. It takes a ton of time to do a video like this. All those graphics are homemade.
