- It looks like Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have been living separate lives for quite some time. The three-time Oscar winner and her longtime husband have called it quits following decades of marriage. "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart," Meryl's rep shared in a statement to People. The two tied the knot back in 1978 and went on to welcome four kids together.

So she decided to release (i.e. was pressured into) a very brief statement about the state of her marriage.
Now it falsely appears as if Meryl Streep "announced" this on her own when in fact the public would have absolutely no knowledge of it but for the preceding.
