    Jesus, Paul, I’ve seen a lot of conversions, but this is bloody brilliant! I’ve lived in an RV, in a van, on a 33 ft sailboat, I love mobile outdoor life. Being comfortable but compact and you’re truly stealth. Deep bow, bro.

      I was maybe most impressed as an American that your conversion is a Peugeot. Especially a van with only 53,000 miles on it for such a shockingly low price! Only in our dreams, over here. I don’t remember anyone I know ever owning a Peugeot.

    You're making me miss my minivan (but not its major problems). I'm currently in a Ford Escape (the smallest class SUV, not sure if they have them in the UK). In winter, you can improve the R value of any mattress by either putting a layer of those Thermarest foam mattresses (I've got a couple Ridge Rest cut to fit under my bed) or one of those survival blankets that are a bit like a tarp. They reflect back so you don't lose heat to the ground, because that's just miserable when it's cold. This has worked well for me for the past nine years to allow me to better utilize the heat I have (as I do not have a separate heater).

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  Před rokem

      Thanks Val. We have the Ford Kuga which is the equivalent to the Escape. I have a reflector under the carpet for winter. I use the heater if its really cold. I also have a Thermarest mattress they are great. 👍

    Cracking way to kit out a van, as you say keep it simple, people over think the bed with folding and pull out contraptions and I think of a folding foam chair / single bed my sister had for her daughters mates to sleepover - very similar to your zig zag bed.

    What should I say?
    You have impressive skills and desire to build an incredibly nice Camper.
    You have the ability to work as a Trangia chef, interior carpenter, fitter, electrician, knowledge of knots, photographer and videographer et cetera.
    Very good work you have done on the car.
    Have you remembered to install an ax in the car, and where do you put your T27 when you're out and about? :)

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  Před rokem +1

      Thank You sir. I have learnt to be self reliant as much as i can through my life out of necessity. I am a very practical person also. The T27 lives on the sloping shelf. I don't keep an Axe in the van all the time. In the UK it can be a problem with the Police having tools like that in a public place. Even tho I'm the most dangerous Tool in the van. 😁

    Nice job Paul. I can see why you love it. Looks really good. As you say simple is best. Glad you are making videos again.
    What engine is in yours? I ask because I have Peugeot Partner Tepee 1.6HDi diesel which I love but it is not quite long enough for me where as your has about another 50cms maybe a bit more loading length. Mine is the same colour as yours as well, excellent condition too. I got it at 22k miles now done 40k miles in 4 years of very happy ownership. If I could find a van like yours then I would be well happy. Yours was a bargain at £3,600. I don't want a larger Peugeot Boxer panel van.
    My Partner Tepee has been 100% reliable. Just keep up with the oil changes and Peugeot engines go on for ever.
    Thanks for making and sharing your video.

      Mine is a Peugeot Expert Tepee. 1.6 HDI 16v 90bhp short wheel base. After looking at stuff on the internet i think the Tepee's are all 1.6. I could be wrong. I change the oil and filter every 6k. My mate runs a garage so i get everything done with him. He warned me about the turbo's if you don't change the oil regular. Thanks for watching Alex 👍

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 Před rokem +1

      @@PaulBissekerBushcraft Thanks for your reply. That's great info. Useful having a mate who runs a garage who can keep yours in good order for you. Yes regular oil and filter changes are important for engine longevity every 5-6k miles or annually for mine. I don't drive that many miles. I think you got a bargain with yours as I have been looking at some and sellers are asking for a lot more than £3,600. Found one up north 146k £2,700 but the MOT history reads worse than a horror novel as clearly not been serviced nor looked after although the body and interior are good from the pics. Shall keep looking. Many thanks again. Keep making videos!

    Congrats! I understand the concept but stealth camping is still pretty mysterious to me from a real-world perspective - would be great to learn more about your motives, likes/dislikes and experiences with the whole thing in a future vid :)

    • @valstarkgraf
      @valstarkgraf Před rokem +2

      We're out there, all over the world. I speak for no one but my own experience, but the huge advantage to stealth camping is quick getaways without paying fees for campgrounds, or a place to stay along the way to a destination. I'd much rather devote campground fees at my final destination than along the route. They are also BRILLIANT in emergencies. This is IDEAL for having to evacuate or shelter in place in an emergency. I respect and appreciate emergency shelters, but being able to park in their lot and get access to food, meals, showers, and toilets, but sleep my your own bed is brilliant. If your country allows boondocking on public lands, you can also wake up with a $10M view or position yourself near a trailhead overnight so you can get an early start in the morning. It's also great to travel to visit folks because I don't need a guest bed, I can just sleep my your own and use their bathroom.

      @@valstarkgraf Hey, thank you. It sounds like you're in the US, and my guess is there's less of a need to keep a look over your shoulder over there compared with the UK and many European countries. But I take it that a clean getaway is part of the appeal :)

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  Před rokem +2

      I was under the impression that in the UK it is frowned upon to camp in a car or van in a public place or road side, even illegal. After reading your comment i did a search and found that it isn't illegal to do this in the UK. Unlike wild camping. www.justkampers.com/jkblog/laws-on-sleeping-in-your-campervan-everything-you-need-to-know-370/ I made the choice to keep my camper stealth looking because of theft and break ins. If anyone breaks into a disabled vehicle they are just WRONG!

    • @valstarkgraf
      @valstarkgraf Před rokem +2

      @Andrew Vickers in the US, it depends. I am a full-time nomad for a bunch of personal reasons, but the most practical of those reasons is that I help a sick relative, but that is never scheduled, so I have long stretches staying with them or needing to help them in a completely different part of the county where I live my life and work. Paying rent and a 100 mi commute makes no sense. I just park wherever I'm needed the following day. There are certainly potential situations where a safe and quick getaway might be needed (I've been in places where something weird started happening with others parked in the lot or on the block). Recently there were random drunk people who were not experiencing homelessness, and did not belong to any nomad caravan, who had wandered from a local restaurant and were just *existing* in very loud and angry intoxication right outside my window. I left. Once I parked on a block, and someone 3 blocks down was clearly high on meth and picking fights. I left there too. Sometimes cops knock on your window, but not often, especially if you look like a daily driver and not a caravan. You just have to be smart in the suburbs and city. Where I live in California, there is no legal distinction for nomads, we are legally classified as "homeless." You have to be super careful to try to blend in. They will go after "this vehicle is obviously homelessness" vehicles first, and the weirdos and the people who cause problems by tailgating in inappropriate locations like parking lots and roadside parking are their living room. I am AuDHD. I need ADHD to "win" when confronted by cops, because ADHD is bubbly and ridiculous and never shuts up being chatty. If autusm shows up when the cops show up, I have a meltdown. Therefore? My entire vibe is a daily driver NOT EVEN TRYING to hide my love for travel. Around 30 destination stickers (all graphically cute ones), a few other stickers that point to certain neurodivergent special interests, a Yakima cargo box on the roof, and a VERY NICE vanlife setup with obviously expensive kit. I have a YETI Roadie 24, but it's Bimini Pink. I have plans for pink llamas and purple sloths, and mushrooms and butterflies, and guinea pigs for interior liners of my insulating window panels (which will be hand stitched and tailored, because that is a skill I have). My entire vibe is "traveling" combined with "frivolous nonsense." None of these things would be my first choice, but, the vibe I'm going for is: "would my 7 y/o self want this?" I am not a "frivolous nonsense" human, but if everyone underestimates me (including cops) by writing their own narrative of who they think I am before they knock or cause problems, it works to my advantage. I could actually out-bushcraft most boy scouts any day of the week. I don't need cops or anyone else knowing that. I can play "cute and slightly batty creative but harmless" well. It's a lot easier to not have to explain why there is a SAK ranger grip in my sunglasses holder and an e-tool under the driver's seat and all sorts of other knives and saws and tools...if I simply don't look like the type to have them.
      But if your vehicle's vibe is sketchy in any way, or of your stickers are Libertatian prepper instead of travel, you're going to draw the wrong kind of attention.
      Travel stickers on a normal SUV are kind of genius camouflage here. In any of the beach cities where my stickers are, I 100% blend in at the surf lots. Anywhere else? I'm clearly just traveling.

    • @valstarkgraf
      @valstarkgraf Před rokem +1

      @Paul Bisseker Bushcraft the best places to park and get away with this are residential near apartment buildings, or in the type of industrial park where your vehicle would blend in. Steve Wallis (Camping With Steve) has an entire channel devoted to mostly stealth camping (which I recommend because he's a great human and it's wholesome relaxing content). Your vehicle would blend best near apartment buildings, perhaps on the same block as a nursing home, and near a hospital, and near a medical supply store. You just have to be careful of posted signage. If you are traveling and need to get from one spot to another, just being very low-key, you can probably get away with a night here and there if it doesn't look like you're camping.
