    In our past RV Smackdowns we’ve questioned the large price difference between an entry-level Diesel RV & a mid-level Diesel RV, we’ve given our thoughts on Diesel vs. Gas RV engines and chassis…now it’s time to put the “house” part of a Gas RV head-to-head with a Diesel RV. Doing our best to compare RVs in an “apple-to-apple” style we’ve handpicked the 2015 Fleetwood Bounder 33c and the 2015 Fleetwood Excursion 33d to see how they compare.
    Remember we're just trying to compare the "house part" of these two motorhomes :)

    Diesel trumps gas for drivability however the interior was definitely nicer on the Bounder. $60k difference is quite a premium for good power.
    Keep up the good vids guys!

    We just purchased a 2015 Bounder 35 k hands down for us the floor plan is the #1 on my list. I see many coaches were the Tv is stuck back on a wall. You want to sit in front of a tv and firplace . The tanks size on Bounders is great compared. To every other gas coach.

    Love the interior of the Bounder. Exterior of the Excursion is better. But I prefer gas over diesel simply because of cost of the coach and price of fuel.

    I believe the Bounder was the 1st class A RV with basement storage. I also think you can now get a diesel powered Bounder.
    Nice job with your respective reviews. Too bad you can't compare mileage or talk about holding tank capacities. Enjoyed it.

    Best RV vlog out there-hands down. Would you consider doing a comparison of coaches that are more family friendly and have the bunk beds? We're going full time with our two younger ones soon and are leaning toward the Fleetwood Discovery 40G. We would be interested in what else is out there though. In any case, thanks for doing these!

    I like the bounder, less money and I like a gas motor. The ford v10 is less to maintain and cheaper to replace and any ford dealer can fix it. I don't mind going a little slower. Like you I don't like the elc. cord placement. And what I have found out is that after 5 years they are worth about the same for resale. So why pay more for the Excursion.

    For now, we'll stick to travel trailers. I like having a good truck that's separate from the living quarters. Our new Passport 23RB is super nice for our short excursions.

  • @TheBarnacleBlimp
    @TheBarnacleBlimp Před 9 lety +3

    60k difference is a lot of money. I am a diesel man through and through but it would be hard to justify the difference just for a retarder, generator and drop down bed?
    Imo the Bounder has the better interior apart from the driving area and the siting of the electric cable.
    The main points I would have weigh up would be fuel efficiency and then projected resale value.
    Great video {as always} and keep on doing what you are doing.

    Very nice review...I agree with most of the comments below; outside TV does not seem practical, I like the pop-out L-shaped couch and solid surface but wonder about the cupholders (they make it look cheap); the doghouse in front is horrible...who wants to climb over that; covered stove is a must; double-door fridge seems to be the best choice, but you better remember the locking strap!; bedroom needs to have side tables or a ledge of some sort.
    If they could meet somewhere in the middle with a choice of gas or diesel, I think it would be perfect! I'm shocked at the price difference.
    I'm not sure if you are locked into Fleetwood or not, but I'd love to see some reviews of Newmar and Tiffin coaches, especially the 40 foot-plus models. I think your viewpoint would be quite interesting as you seem to live comfortably in about 30 feet, I'd love to know how you feel with an extra 10-15 feet of space and the "mobile-house" idea.
    Love you channel !!

    All the points made are very good. It all depends on how far you are driving, i have always been a big fan of Diesel but with a 60K dollar differance...... thats alot of fuel that you can buy. But the Diesel will last longer.

    I prefer the living room of the gas one. The bedroom of the diesel. The exterior paint job and motor of the diesel. In something that big and heavy diesel is the way to go.I don't remember which had it but I like the darker wood. To me it looks richer.

    I dont think I would ever get a rv like this if you get into a accident that nice big refrigerator becomes a wrecking ball and will most likely kill you not to mention every thing in the rv is behind you because the living room is in the front. In some fifth wheels the living room is at the back which means if a crash happened nothing heavy would harm you.

  • @wolffhd

    When was the last time you heard a gas engine running in a Big Rig? You haven't.
    Reason: they run low RPM, have the torque and power to pull a load (by the way, your Motorhome will be quite heavy, not to mention pulling a tow), diesels last longer, get better mileage, and the maintenance schedule is longer.
    That V10 will struggle up inclines, and hopefully, you won't burn it up.
    When I am going up the mountains, passing the gassers . . . . or descending down the mountains, using my engine braking, I thank God I spent the extra bucks on my Diesel Pusher!

    • @z44sms
      @z44sms Před 8 lety +2

      Cervelo, You should tell us examples of good RV designs with similar features, I looked at many RVs splitter vans included double the price with much more complex engines, not conforming to normal house parts if something breaks, not big enough for living in. I seen Japanese versions without much different than a cheap conversion van in USA go for same price as full size RV. Tell us what is elegant? You only mentioned Europe or Airstream. Airstream is apples and oranges. Airstream what model/year? Airstream most are pull-able no Engine involved the ones with Engines are 24 feet that's much smaller in length. That's a van chassis vs a full size bus chassis. A bus that can pull things easily. Airstream $156,000 stock before features added, almost same cost as these buses. Airstream has Mercedes Benz not standard engine costing in repairs probably similar to a bus. But the Airstream looses several features and over 10 feet of space you have no washer/dryer, no large capacity under storage, no separate shower/toilet, loose several sleeping spaces, loose large towing ability everything is smaller. You mentioned Europeans well I am looking at European models they are rip offs of American models. What RV at $150,000-200,000 are you looking at with style? I could show you plenty of American $2 million dollar RVs with plenty of style.
