A long while ago, he broke up with his gf he was with for 6 years (Courtney) and throughout the time he was on tour playing shows across the US, he thought he was crazy about everything because he had such a strong feeling that his gf was cheating, at she was, she cheated on him for a while with some guy they met in the UK I believe. But Jake made a promise that he wouldn't let anyone he's ever dated have any financial issues. That's why in the middle of the song he talks about having sex and the girl begs for a check, which was Courtney (I'm about 90% sure).
Both Courtney and Jake posted the whole story on Twitter but they both deleted them just yesterday or the day before.

Kinda reminds me of the creator Otzdarva and his highlights editor. The editor was gaining popularity editing his clips into weekly compilations just because he wanted to, so he hired the editor on to make them for his channel instead. Win win because then there's no weirdness with someone reuploading his content, more people get to enjoy the videos because they get put on his channel instead of someone else's, and the editor gets paid!
