Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Gosh, I just adore Shannan's articulation of the craft and industry. So honest and direct, while also being digestible and considerate. Never is her guidance discouraging. It's always, "Sure, go ahead and write it/do it, **but keep in mind**..." I could seriously watch her speak about the industry and process for literal hours and hours.
She's excellent, and I don't even write. But, as you've said, she's got a great way about her.
Me too
Yes. When he says 'you can even go to film school and don't understand the business' it happened to me in Acupuncture field. And happens to lot of people in different fields. I would say that today secret to make it is writing a blog weekly, having a CZcams channel, writing a book and do jobs for free or little money. Those kind of things seems obvious but are not. Maybe is all the screen time and watching people like this girls makes you think why to bother to do workshops or be a teacher or do a video. If she is so good.
On her point on how getting a screenplay made overnight is not possible, lets all remember it took Squid Games 10 years to get produced. Just cause its good doesnt mean itll get picked up right away, and patience is a damn virtue
Forrest Gump also took 10 years to get produced, so also Apocalypse Now (the very first draft was written in 1969).
Shannan is such a sunshine! She is brilliant! The most eloquent speaker I can listen to for hours on end! :)
I absolutely went thru everything she said to become a great writer.

Well Done🤝
Always love hearing Shannan’s perspective..
Cheers, thanks for watching Ahmed!
I’ve watched about a dozen of these and this one is absolutely the best
Her no-nonsense honesty cuts right through allowing for her to make the point
to deliver the message in such a clear concise way that it leaves no room for ambiguity
I’m gonna go out of my way to check out her work by which I haven’t done that so far with any of the other interviews I’ve seen
Her intelligence with regard to the business was something that other people fumble through when trying to deliver the exact same message
(plus she’s easy on the eyes 👀
This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear and know at this point in my development. Shannan never disappoints 🙏👍🏽
I needed to hear this advice, it helps that she's very personable and attractive
I absolutely love Shannan. Lovely woman!
Shannan is so good at this stuff. I love watching her talk about writing.
More Shannan the Shaman. PLEASE.
Daniel, we definitely have more to share from this new interview with Shannan! And if you haven't seen our previous interview with her it is worth watching - czcams.com/video/Bp0pDjVxN9U/video.html
@@filmcourage This is excellent news. I have seen most, if not all the videos you have of her interviews. She has the most wonderful voice and soft accent that makes her wisdom float across my awareness like honey and silk. How wonderful is her knowledge. Her passion for her craft is at once evident and infectious. More please.
I'd love to create 5 hour-long dramas and 1 half-hour sitcom. Needless to say, I love both.
What best practices help new screenwriters starting out?
Yes to all! 👏🏾
I love Shannan! I’ve been following her on Instagram for months. Such a helpful perspective
I love this lady ❤
The information is the main point/objective of this channel but i lovelovelove the diversity of the sources. It's good to see US in a creative light and manner even though i do feel the process of picking individuals is natural. I don't feel like the channel is saying "hey we need more black or Asian interviewees". Thanx for existing, it all helps...✌🏼
But of course! US is a multicultural nation after all.
Shannan is awesome. Thanks for this!
I love how she explain things… … . OMSoul
I really like these discussions. Thanks!
Thanks. Great content.
Thank you
Shannan is so good! 👏🏽🙌🏽
She's wonderful so much knowledge
love 7:58 happens everyday, all day everywhere. Humans thinking the same things. We're all obviously more alike than different. Shannan E. Johnson is the boss!
Resurrecting The Office would work if you base the scenes on the pandemic. Then you won't have to infringe copyright, so to speak. Great idea. You could always call the series "Pam." Ha!!! Love Shannan always!
Great advice. Thx
🔥🔥🔥 this!
Big Ups
I've been pecking away for several years. Wrote 4 screenplays. Maybe some day before I die I will have mastered it. But it's not today
Great to see Shannan back again. She gives some of the best advice on this channel.
Cheers Rishi! More to come!
@@filmcourage You think you're teasing us with these 7 min videos?
Damn right you are. Can't wait for the rest.
Before you know it we will have this full interview online. We have a segment where Shannan talks about pitfalls writers face in the 2nd act. Excited to share that one. Small team here doing the best we can. We appreciate you watching.
She’s good at explaining things.
I always had the mind set its not about who did it first, its about who did it better
What I watch may not be what I want to write. Wow
💯♥️‼️
The dark path brightens as we move into the unknown depths.
There’s DEFINITELY new ideas…
Damn, this is good sh!t
Very interesting interview. At one point the interviewee stated (paraphrased) "if it's on TV / in movies, the trend has already passed so don't bother writing for it as it is already passe". Thing is tho', vampire-themed TVs and movies were popular for *years* (I should know, my wife gobbled them up) so surely there are exceptions? Another example is superhero movies - they have been blockbusters over the past 15 odd years and there is no sign of that slowing down - wouldn't a writer be able to write and pitch a superhero show today, and have a shot at success?
It's not that you shouldn't write it, but keep in mind there's so many variations of that now basic idea that its now cliché, and right now Hollywood is big on repeated/established trends but moreso from people who are already in the industry rather than newcomers, so as Shannan said before your mentioned paraphrase: "If its already been done what are you gonna do that makes it unique?" And it's a better idea that if you want to write that cliché as a full script she suggested having it in your arsenal as a sample of your writing rather than saying "I'm focused on selling this idea as a featured film or series."
@@genuine.cocoa.9208 thanks, you summed it up brilliantly.
Got to have talent. How many of you could write at the level of Queens Gambit?
The interviewer REALLY wants to remake The Office...
Hollywood is established by reboots and remakes, THATS THE PROBLEM. That established content built from the ground up, not shoulders. Inspiration or not
Is there room in Hollywood for someone that writes historic drama but actually does the research?
I suppose it depends on how realistic you want the show to be 😆
Your comment reminded me of this czcams.com/video/f0fqnPFeVCM/video.html
trying to see can I email you🤔🤔
What if I just wanna do all the book adaptations? 😭
I like to watch horrors, but write crime fiction.
Smh @ bosses spying at home sound suspect and predatory I'm start writing asap I have a new Bentley by summer 😂😂😂😂😂
what a disappointment, I read "best practices for banging screenwriters"
