Manila ropes were once used by the seamen on the galleons of Manila, Filipinas and Acapulco. Hence, the name of the city. Even today, some modern ships has manila ropes.
Thanks--just the info I was looking for. Wanted a manila rope substitute for an old-fashion look on a tree swing. Guess I'm sticking to manila!
Thanks a lot for the info.
Something is to be said for the natural manila and sisal(my favorite)ropes, how nature still makes better products than man in some aspects.
Wow, thanks for sharing. I would have never guessed that the Pro-manila holds up worse in the elements. That's pretty embarrassing. It looks like it's just polypropylene. I have had similar experience with polypropylene rope rotting in sunlight and melting in high heat.
No problem! And yeah unfortunately I learned it the hard way. LOL! I've since switched to galvanized poles. Check out my video on deck railings posted recently
One of the websites that sells ProManila says to treat it with mineral oil to prevent flaking and damage due to the sun. The downside is that it will give off a strong odor. I will try using it on the steep part on trails around our property. It will be mostly shady so hopefully it will hold up.
Hello, how you attach end of rope? one screw?
I don't know. I still want to go pro manilla for my deck ropes. I've had organic for 3 years and it has stretched SEVERAL FEET in length, (on 40' lengths). Every year I pull it back and tie it off and it keeps stretching. I won't mind minor flaking that I can sweep up as long as it holds its form/length.
Sounds to me like you keep getting more for your dollar every year! Like complaining about how your drink keeps filling back up. JK
would that happen if kept indoors?? organic manila
Great question! No it probably would not. I mean maybe if it was in direct sunlight indoors.
Really appreciate your sharing
Sorry it’s i DIOY
(do it over yourself)
Yuck... thanks so much for this video. The promanila performs terribly. Good to know!
Yeah it seriously does! Much better off with the organic. Especially if it's in the sunlight. If it's completely out of the sunlight then I suppose the pro Manoa is okay. Wish I had watched a video like this before wasting my time and money
Thank you so much! I'm going with the Manila for my steps railings
