Мохаммед Али против Флойда Паттерсона, 20 сентября 1972 г., поражение Паттерсона в 7-ом раунде (TKO)
Floyd was the last 'small' heavyweight champion before the giants took over. But man, he is one helluva guy. Even ali said he is one of the most skilful opponents ali 've ever fought
This B U M?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@sonracky8500 55-8 doesn’t seem so “bum” to me
@@joshtaylor3759 Patterson lost 1 fight to Johanssen a champion. He lost 2 times to Liston, a champion. He lost 2 times to Ali, the greats of all time. He lost 1 fight to Jimmy Ellis, a champion. He also lost a fight to Jerry Quarry one of the best contenders of that era. He took on all comers and only lost to the very best.
@@Odin029 You are correct. No one who knows the first thing about boxing thinks Patterson was "a bum" or not "impressive." Those were ignorant posts.
Just remember who came after patterson to acquire the peekaboo.. mike tyson.
Patterson is underrated. His form was excellent, footwork and combinations crisp, and he had heart.
I train at a gym where Tracy Patterson works and it’s amazing just meeting him and talking with hik
Might think about changing your on line name
@@brandonhigh1191 I’m good lol
Ali was the best I ever saw, and the most iconic athlete of the 20th century. Completely transcended sports.Never got enough credit for his toughness. Had his best years stolen from him, and never whined about it. Btw, he was great with the fans, and when he was at his home in Cherry Hill NJ, would answer the door himself and chat, particularly with college kids, of which I was one when I saw this fight at the Garden, as well as Ali-Frazier I on 3/8/71, boxing's best night, ever. Floyd=total class, and a great fighter in his prime, hugely popular guy. RIP. Thanks to both for the memories
Annbosguy is another member of The Religion of Ali.
Patterson was a natural light-heavy competing with much bigger guys ,kudos to him. His hands were easily as quick as Jean Pascal's or Adonis Stevenson's and yet the remarkable thing is his hands are only marginally faster than Ali's, who was much physically bigger as is clearly evident to any one who has watched the fight, I think he had about 30 pounds of weight and about 4 inches of height, truly astonishing.
Patterson is an overlooked fighter. I personally think he was a great talent.
Steve Mitchell - Patterson was ofcourse, a world heavyweight champion, (twice infact) with several defences, late 50s early 60s.He had some good KO wins.
He wad some s!!!!
I love both fighters..... The Gentle man of boxing....Floyd Patterson(R.I.P)
A dying breed..
@Floyd PattersonII are you his son? Wow.
Both actual boxers, not brawlers. The 70's-90's would have been tough for Patterson as it turned into a puncher's game for a while.
@Floyd PattersonII ,So pleased to hear from you !
Whilst I am not quite old enough to remember all your dads world title times, I do enjoy seeing him on film, and reading about him.
I have been a boxing historian, pretty much since my Aunty bought me A Pictorial History of Boxing by Nat Fleischer, 1965. Aged 12 years.
Not too long ago, I was intouch with a fellow Brit. who was a big fan of your Dad .
He travelled to USA more than once to visit him.
Sorry I cannot remember his name - you may have remembered him.
He asked if he could spar with your dad, but Floyd always sensibly declined.
I saw your dad defeat Henry Cooper in London 1966 (on TV though) Did you come over for that one ?
I was really impressed by your dad, his skills and punching power. He knocked Cooper down twice I think and Cooper finished un-concious.
Henry Cooper said he thought Patterson more skillful than Ali. He should know, having fought them both !
I was very pleased to buy an autograph of your dad. Signed at the Canadian Olympics 1986 I think it was.
Its in one of my boxing memorabilia folders upstairs, together with reports of your dads trilogy with Ingemarr Johannson. (Found his autograph too !)
You must be very proud of your Dad and all of his accomplishments.
You know, during these trying and uncertain times with the covid 19 virus, I have been encouraged by reading Gods word : "For God so loved the world, that he sent his only son, Jesus, that whoever believes on him shall not perish, but have everlasting life"
John 3 : 16
Other verses in John are similar.
Anyway, Floyd, I wish you and all your family the very best ! David.
Good fight for both of them good job
Muhammad Ali is the definition of boxing
I think he meant that it was becoming a one-sided fight once Floyd's eye was cut and swelling. Not that it was one-sided the whole fight.
Floyd Patterson was ahead on points through the sixth round. When he returned to his corner, you can see by the camera angle, he blew his nose into the towel & this inflated his left eye shut. Detrimentally affecting his vision, the TKO decision was made. “Never Blow Your Nose” was the mistake that cost Floyd the fight…
Patterson definitely landed some good shots. I didn't think it was that one-sided, either. But you can tell Ali didn't take Patterson very seriously.
JN Hutchi Ali said Floyd was the most skilled fighter he ever faced. He was taking Floyd serious but he couldn’t land the punches he normally would cause of Floyd’s head movement.
Agree ,Ali didn't leave first gear until round 6 .Ali toyed around and it still seems difficult for Floyd to land flush but he did get a couple good shots in.
Denny Hala no it was to be his last fight, but he wanted to avenge the heavyweight showdown of seven years earlier. Plus he wanted to win the fight badly so he could challenge for the title in 73
@@clubberlang589 no way he could win , Ali was going to kill him if the fight continue
@@3rdpersonality48 Floyd is well schooled, you can tell he's got great training from earlier in his career with Cus d'mato.
Isn't it just astonishing that this is Floyd Patterson's last ever fight? What a remarkably youthful and valiant 37-year-old Patterson we see here. Hardly an embarrassing loss by any means to one of the greatest fighters of his day, a man who outweighed him by 25 pounds and was 7 years younger. Actually a pretty even fight until round 6. What a man who knew how to retire with class, unlike Ali, of course, who, sadly and as we all know, hung on way too long. You've just gotta admire Floyd Patterson.
I like Patterson way more than ali. Ali acted like a jackass outside the ring. No class. Just vanity that cost him his brain. Patterson was a gentleman and the better man.
+clip11 Thanks for the great post. Patterson v. Holyfield is a great hypothetical match-up I've never thought of before. I'd have to give Patterson somewhat of an edge in punching power and Holyfield somewhat of an edge in endurance and all-around athleticism--and possibly a BIG edge in ability to recover from punches. And you certainly can't fault either guy's fighting heart.
I agree that Floyd's loss to Ellis is hugely disputable. But I do think Quarry beat Floyd in that second fight. Both Quarry fights are great.
Daveed Anderson you probably don't like yourself. Anyone that knew anything about Ali knows a lot of his antics were to sell tickets and marketing himself. Lot of fighters got fights and made money just from his mere name.
Ali carried him. Could have knocked him out much sooner if he wanted to.
@Floyd PattersonII actually you can tell when Ali started trying .take nothing from Floyd but it seems even with Floyd trying his ass off and Ali playing around in the first few rounds It was still pretty far and in-between that Floyd lands a flush punch to the head ..
Always nice to see the Peoples Champ Muhammad Ali and the great Floyd patterson.
Great to see Smoki'n Joe Frazier too, all in the same ring together !
A fine win for Ali, on the road to a re-match with Joe. A Good farewell performance from Cus D'amatos great, Floyd Patterson , the former double heavyweight champ.
Wouldn't it be great to have champions like these again ?
These were champions, that we could all respect !
Those were warriors of the ring, to me Larry Holmes was the last of that era of great heavyweights.
@@clubberlang589 Yes, I had a lot of respect for Larry too.
Those were my favourite years.
23:47 Best shot of the fight!
Ali said that Patterson is most skillful men he ever fought
Ibrahim Najm
Yes he did you aggressive fool.
Jimmy Young, who gave Ali a boxing lesson to end all boxing lessons, was the most skillful fighter Ali ever fought.
marcxopoco
Jimmy was a damned good boxer and Ali respected both of these men (as much as his screaming ego would allow). Cheers. But Ali was a mile overweight for the Young fight.
Ibrahim Najm yes, he did.
Loved Floyd. Met him once and he was a real gentleman.
Well his nickname was the gentleman
Patterson was a great fighter and it should be remembered that he gave away at least 30/40 lbs against Ali, and Liston was really a lightheavy/cruiserweight. Awesome style and speed.
Don't forget the height and reach too
Good stoppage with the cuts Patterson had, but he was giving Ali all he could handle up until then.
Up until Ali left first gear and started trying
Floyd was only really knocked out by one boxer, namely Liston. Ingo knocked him down 7 times, but he wasn't counted out, but was on his feet when the referee stopped the fight in the 3rd round.
miss my dad
Rip
is he your dady?
Floyd, May your Dad Rest In Peace Eternally with the Lord!! What a True Gentleman!!! I met your Dad at Resorts International Casino when your Dad had a Boxing Team that he coached out of Yonkers. The Yonkers Team were Amateurs, and they fought Steve Traitz Boxing Team out of Norristown, PA......just outside of Philly! I got to talk with your Dad for awhile before the Fights, and then after the Fights too in a Private Dining Room in REsorts International in Atlantic City! He was Great to talk too, and I was training at Willie Reddish Gym, the trainer of Sonny Liston, early training of Joe FRazier....and Gil Turner among many others. Do you remember your Dad training the Yonkers Boxing Team out of New York?? It was around 1979 or 1980 in that area. Great Man your Father was!! He is in my prayers!! Sincerely, Ray!!
Ali is not overrated he is THE GREATEST so pls dont talk shit about him if u dont know the TRUTH OK !
The Greatest said in 1965 and 1972, that he was not going to knock out Patterson, whom he called "The Rabbit." Ali said that he was going to punish him.
+Bruce He did not say that in 72, they had become friends by then and Ali worked just hard enough to get sharp for the rematch against Frazier, he even went to Mercante and asked him not to stop the fight as Floyd was doing so well but the eye injury made the Ref stop it.
@@mstrunn ...Yes, he did. Ali was a self promoter. I already said they were good friends.
He did not say that in 1972, only 1965. In 1965 Patterson made it like a war and he was defenseless. By 1972 both of them had settled and they used to attend at each other's matches. Neither Ali nor Patterson promoted the 1972 fight by trashtalk. It was a casual press conference.
Seen this one a few times and it take me back to the childhood.. Floyd was never a threat to Ali but it was good of him to give Floyd a chance to make some money.. Always great to watch the skills of these masters..
@@i-sink-i they boxed 7 years prior to this one as well .
@11:00 is one of the things Tyson made popular again later..
2 Legends. Both past their prime here. 2 of the greatest though
Huh he won the belt three times and held it till 1980
@@funkbox1000 Ali and Patterson great champs.
Remember Patterson was a 2 time champ as well.
No way no how was this a one-sided fight! What fight were these Ali-fans seeing? That cut eye injury prevented a rough tough fight from developing, one that could easily went to Patterson. NOT a one-sided fight, damn it!
Hahaha definitely rough and tough if it kept going Floyd definitely would have got roughed up considering when Ali left first gear and started trying he was dominant as we see in round 6 and 7 .. should have let it go on
Patterson was hurting or at least disturbing Ali with body punches. Though lighter than Chris Byrd or James Toney Patterson was a much heavier puncher. One can tell by this video that Patterson knew how to use his legs to drive home punches.
I brought up Byrd and Toney because they were once considered, not too long ago, to be the best pure boxers in the heavyweight division.
Lol
They are both winners IMO! Good Call refere! Caring more about the man than the dollar....the good 'ole days
2 great fighters.
Jeffrey. Yes, Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson.
Shame it had to be stopped, really good fight for Patterson
Although Ali showed Joe Frazer disrespect at this and other fight introductions. At Joe Frazers funeral he was asked about Joe he said " If there wasn't a Joe Frazer there would be no Ali "
1952 Olympic champion vs 1960 Olympic champion. Clash of Titans.
comparing this one to their '65 meeting, Floyd fought a better fight--he landed some excellent shots
In 65 Floyd went into the fight with an injured sacroiliac joint.
@@michaeltrumph121 Going against Ali with a physical limitation in those days would be like pitting a calf with a broken leg against a wolf.
@@BlankUberEverybody
Probably. I don't think Patterson would have won anyway, but he would of put up a far better fight, and it would have been more competitive.
@@michaeltrumph121 It would have--Floyd was no slouch but Ali's speed and reach would have undone him like it did all the others before his skills eroded with age. But in that division ya never know. all it takes is one punch with the big boys and Floyd more than proved he could land lunging head shots on the champ.
@Denny Hala
Ali was taking it seriously, he just wasn't quite as good as in the 60's.
And in 65 Floyd had an injured back, so this version of Floyd, although older, was in some ways better prepared for the fight, while Ali wasn't quite as good as he used to be.
Ali enters this fight 30 years of age, this is Patterson's last fight at 37 years of age and is in great shape. Ali at this time was 38 wins 1 loss, (to Fraizer), Patterson is going to retire after this fight with a record of 64 Fights, 55 Wins, 40 KO's, (more KO's than Muhammad Ali had his entire career), 8 losses 1 draw. This was Ali's 11th fight after his time in jail.
Floyd Patterson was a great fighter, especially, considering as people have pointed out, how light he was. His peek-a-boo style is fun to watch, and he certainly is on his toes here. I like him.
I do not believe that Muhammad Ali is out of shape here, a comment people are making about him have more weight that usual in this fight. Muhammad Ali is heavier this fight to have more power to his punches. In their first fight, before the prison time, Floyd Patterson when 12 rounds with Muhammad Ali. The weight is a smart calculation by Dundee and Ali.
Patterson had just won 9 fights after his loss to Jimmy Ellis.
Truth Lives Looks to me like Ali's in good enough shape only to win. Let's face it- how could he take this fight very seriously. He knows Floyd had virtually no chance. It's pretty obvious that he's kind of bored. All that's got nothing to do with Floyd, though, and my hat's off to him for coming out here in fantastic shape and giving it all before he hangs 'em up for good. Great figure for a small guy that probably never had much business in the heavyweight division to begin with.
Ric Mason
In 1952, Cus 'D Amato helped Floyd Patterson gain the Middleweight Division Olympic Gold Medal at the Helsinki games. Patterson used the style that Cus 'D Amato helped him with, the peek-a-boo. He then became the youngest Heavyweight Champion at that time in history, beating a super boxer, Archie Moore, at 21 years old.
Then right before Cus 'D Amato's death he literally adopts a person who breaks Pattersons record for the youngest Heavyweight Champion in 1985, Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson also used that same peek-a-boo style.
Patterson was too light, Tyson was too short.
You know, that is pretty amazing when I look at that.
Ric Mason
"Never should of been in the devision to begin with." Patterson was heavyweight champion for a good few years, so that alone makes you statement stupid. The starting weight for the devision then was 175 pounds, and the average weight for a heavyweight in Ali's entire era was only 199 pounds. Anyway how can you say Floyd shouldn't be in this fight; he dominated the first three rounds, and won four out of the seven rounds in this fight. Floyd was faster and had better reflexes than Ali, it was just Ali's size that outdone him. Ali weighed 30 pounds more than Ali.
David Keir
Muhammad Ali called Floyd Patterson the best boxer that he ever faced, and Patterson was a great boxer. What is making the statement of Ric's not real stupid is that Floyd Patterson's average weight was only around 188 lbs, and that was probably after beefing himself up a little to qualify. Floyd Patterson's body is a lighter frame. When he faced heavier opponents, like Liston weighing 215 lbs, same height, he would lose by the boxing power of his opponent. He is a more a cruiserweight classification which is anyone under 190 lbs. It is correctly thought that a person of 190 lbs. will have a problem fighting a heavier guy.
Weight classifications are there for a reason. It is amazing how well Floyd Patterson did considering this problem, and shows that he was a super boxer, and why he chose the peek-a-boo style, that in my opinion, (which really is nothing), helps a person who is too light or too short win.
I like the way Floyd Patterson moved in the fights I have seen.
1967 was Ali's prime, but the 1970s was the best line up in all heavy ,and Ali did well
The 90's had better HW's.
Michael Trumph 80s and 70s had better heavyweights.
@@EFCkingTom
No they didn't. The 90's was the greatest era of HW's, and by a long margin.
Michael Trumph did they shite, 70s and 80s has prime foreman, Frazier, Ali, Norton, Larry Holmes, shavers, prime mike Tyson.
The 90s HW division was so good that a fat out of shape, 45 year old, George foreman won the belt. And the division was dominated by two static Ukrainian robots.
@@EFCkingTom
"70s and 80s has prime foreman, Frazier, Ali, Norton, Larry Holmes, shavers, prime mike Tyson.
"
70's has 3 ATG's (past prime Ali, Foreman, Frazier) + B level boxers (Norton, Lyle, etc)
80's has 3 ATG's (prime Tyson, Holmes, Spinks) + B level boxers (Tucker, Smith, Tubbs, etc)
90's had 4 ATG's (past prime Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe) + B level boxers (Mercer, Morrison, Ruddock, Moorer, McCall, etc)
"The 90s HW division was so good that a fat out of shape, 45 year old, George foreman won the belt. "
He was by no means out of shape. In many respects, old Foreman was better than young Foreman. He was far better conditioned, he knew how to conserve his energy, he was far more durable and harder to KO. And he only won that belt out of pure luck. Moorer had beaten him up all night. IF he wouldn't have been stupid to stand a trade, Moorer would have won by a landslide.
"And the division was dominated by two static Ukrainian robots."
Are u that clueless ?!?
The Klitschko brothers dominated the 2000's not the 90's.
I had Patterson ahead at stoppage, winning at least 4 of 7 rounds.
This raises the question
-in their 1965 bout, Patterson was clearly in excruciating back pain.
Wonder what would have happened had he been healthy.
Ali conceded Floyd was the best pure boxer he ever faced.
ali was destroying him hater
Lol...Ali destroys Patterson regardless of his "back pains". Like Angelo Dundee would say....FORGET ABOUT IT.
so true my friend
but destroyed like a champion should do no doubts
Comikajr Kadu hey, Floyd was a champion and a fine fighter. He threw the kitchen sink at Ali in this fight and won some rounds. I don’t think Ali was in shape as evidenced by missing so many shots early on.
In the end, he wore Floyd down and ultimately would have knocked him out cleanly had the ref not stopped the fight.
Good decision from the Ref.
Floyd Patterson was so great in his time!! I am glad the ref called the fight before round 8.
Patterson was doing better than his last fight with Ali until round 6. Patterson is a tough man but really did not have enough speed or strength to handle Ali.
Jonathan C in the first fight Patterson had a back injury
Oh he had strength. What he seems to be missing here is reach and athleticism. If he had a better back in 1965, he could've given Ali a better fight.
Lets not forget he knocked out Henry Cooper, who Ali couldn't knockout and got knocked down by.
I have never seen a boxer who is more entertaining and have a sense of humor than Ali but sometime he jokes around too much😂😂
Although Floyd and Mike had the same trainer, Floyd’s footwork was much better than Tyson’s
This is why Tyson had foot movement of Floyd he would’ve had better defence. But both were great Champions
floyd is so quick and if he attacks he attacks with those long punches and like tyson he almost runs and jumps in to close a distance, what surprised me that he is so quick! being small man he s just great if not the greatest of all time in terms that he fights not with raw pover but with skills to ovecame his small bodysize and weight!
You're delusional. Patterson was a decent fighter at best... Ali and Liston made short work of him.
floyd fight with ali 1972 quite well. ali wa slosing rounds. floyd was agressor. amazing speed! about liston. floyd just wasnt careful.he was caught and couldnt recover.
lee supra
Huh? I think, you seem to have a private version of events... In the 1st fight... Ali totally dominated Patterson. Something which even Patterson admitted... and it was quite a cruel punishment.
- -
Wasn't careful? What in 2 1-round knockouts?
You for serious?
AminTheMystic Floyd had some kind of back injury for the first Ali fight. And he said he wasn't all into the Sonny Liston fight because the hype was all about the Good guy vs the Bad guy. Ali said that Patterson was the most skilled boxer he ever fought.
MrDefault08 Look - Floyd Patterson was simply not good enough. He didn't stand a chance against either men.
Also - he wouldn't stand a chance against men like George Foreman, Louis, Tyson and etc.
He was just too small...
Ali gave Floyd a payday.. he was generous that way
Ali's fights against the Cus D'Amato trained Patterson are probably the closest indication to how Mike Tyson would have done against Ali.
Patterson was 189 pounds, tyson was 217 with crazy power.
gui gui The difference is Tyson had a body attack far more quality than Patterson. But that was a clear indication or illustration for a Ali v Tyson.
Muhammad Ali. The Greatest of All Time. Thanks for playing Floyd.
floyds style changed allot since the first match
🎩🎤Floyd style really didn't change. His back pain wasn't like it was. He was able to leap his upper cuts at Ali better. That's all
One sided fight? were we watching the same fucking fight?????
Great quality
Great announcer! Great legends!
188 lbs is not a big heavyweight. Tyson and Frazier never weighed anywhere close to that. Frazier was at his best weight around 205 but fought at higher weights. Tyson around 215. Patterson was, indeed, small.
Rest in peace “the greatest” he could have beaten anyone to their ass in his era
I'm watching this fight for the first time, and floyd won every round, from 1 to 5, now I'm going to watch the rest of the fight to see what happens, will comment after the fight.
Alot of people don't know this but ali gifted floyd this fight to help him financially you know put a little love in his pocket😉 & the great part about this is muhammad allowed floyd to use his training camp in deer lake to get ready for this fight. imagine letting your apponent use your gym helping him get ready to kick your behind ali had a great heart.
One of Ali's bad habit , which he didn't have in his prime, is that he never trained and performed like he COULD have if he was fighting someone who posed a legitimate threat. He knew he could beat Floyd Patterson, which is why he didn't train too hard.
cj original I'm confused…..
SpamHusky Read what I said again ?
Anzor Saayev Ken Norton won by a split decision, and it was a non-title bout. Ali's jaw was reportedly broken in the second round, and he went the distance! There are still a lot of Ali haters, today, and he's been gone for over a year, now.
@Anzor Saayev that's true but in the rematch ken Norton was prime and Ali was trying to relive his prime and Ali outboxed him it wasn't by much but still Ali outboxed prime Norton that is a damn tough accomplishment
ali was great outside the ring but him constantly backing off during early rounds is not my cup of tea.
This is the Thrilla in Madison Square Garden Sports Arena :D
great spirit by floyd
Do you have this announcer's call for Ali Frazier 3? Or where I could see it?
I thought Floyd Patterson was boxing really well here and had him ahead until Ali opened up in the 6th and took control.
Patterson fought far too long. This was a pointless rematch. Of course, it's hindsight but the Jimmy Ellis fight would have been the perfect time for Patterson to retire. When you have made something virtually your whole life it is so hard to leave it behind. As would also be the case with Ali as everyone knows. As an aside, when Patterson won the Heavyweight title for the first time, in 1956, he weighed all of 182 lbs. Patterson was a tremendous fighter, he just wasn't a real heavyweight. He likely would have been one of the greatest light-heavy champions of all time. But you can't fault him for going after the biggest prize, and winning it twice. Hard to argue with the thinking.
Floyd PattersonII Your father should have never fired Cus! These fights could have went a lot differently in favour of Floyd!
@Floyd PattersonII I admired him greatly. As a fighter and as a man.
Patterson and Ali fought much too long!! If I think about it too long it makes me sad..That Parkinson's disease ravaged Ali..He was 74 years old when he died, but he looked 104..It devastated his body so terribly bad 😭 😭😭😭😭😭
It made Floyd big money ,guaranteed if you fight Ali ,you get paid, and Ali liked to keep active.
There was certainly a lot less animosity than their first fight.
i always find patterson enjoyable to watch. reminds me of tyson.
tyson and patterson had the same trainer
Patterson was no where near as good as Tyson.
Kyle Kusniak yeah of course of course
Kyle Kusniak He was better than Tyson, he didn't run from the best fighters, while Tyson ran from everyone.
Tyson's management picked the fights, not Tyson. Let's put prime Patterson in the ring instead of Mike Spinks, result would have been the same, Patterson knocked out cold. No doubt on that.
Many of the Tysonites were not even born during the era of Muhammad Ali. As a matter of fact, Tyson was only six years old when the second Ali-Patterson bout occurred on September 20th, 1972. Patterson lost both bouts by way of TKO in the twelfth (1965) and seventh (1972) rounds. And, furthermore, Tyson was not even born when Ali and Patterson fought for the first time on November 22nd, 1965.
Agreed. Floyd Patterson looked like more of a cruiserweight.
Look at this fight.....if this would've been Tyson in the ring with Patterson it would've been over in round 1
Muhammad ali 🖤
It would have been nice to see Floyd finish the fight like the true champion he was, he was game.
MAN, this is like LOW speed compared to the first match. Floyd catching him WAAAAY more than the 1st one.
Because Floyd doesn't have a broken back in this match that is why its more competitive.
Patterson was skinnier in this fight
He was alot bigger
In this fight he got back down to his weight as the champ
Floyd has alot of heart godbless him he is such a gentlemen
Beautiful movements by Floyd..if he was a lil bigger hed be named Mike
Not powerful enough
I wished Patterson was part of Tyson training and management team. Tyson respected Patterson for both his achievements in and out of the ring but also his own character
Out standing

@29:23 you can see how Floyd's eye is swollen shut, Patterson put up a good fight all the way until they stopped it, what a game fighter Floyd was and he went out losing to the GOAT. What a swan song .
nycinstyle is a lunatic and a troll nobody in their fight mind sees rock or louis beating ali they were novices compared to the average 70s fighter
Ali was catching him with the uppercut when Floyd bobbed , he wasn’t seeing it , the eye would have been closed before the 8th was over no need to take any more damage trying to get that one big punch , it would have been a blind shot at best, close your left eye and duck under your hands in Pattersons style and see how much you don’t see. He couldn’t block those shots with his left arm . It was a good stoppage. This was a transition time in boxing, to what Ali called the dinosaurs 15, stone and up stone=14 lbs, 29lbs is a lot to give. Floyd was a true warrior Author Macanty was a good referee, one of the best in my opinion.
Patterson was great, but Ali is the best
Round 1 thru six Ali was probably saying to himself. I wonder what I should eat for dinner tonight
Just finished reading a bio on Patterson. Floyd's back was killing him throughout this fight (slipped disc). As for Ali toying with him, I don't believe it. He said that he threw everything he could at Floyd and he just wouldn't stay down.
Hahaha first fight is where Floyd had a jacked up back
Muhammad Ali is the greatest athlete of all time.
He was fast funny and fantastic.
Ali will always be remembered by our ancestors.
Ali said he needs some I'll drag him again for a check
Patterson was always too easy for Ali. He would've wooped a prime Tyson like he wooped all of the other Cus D'Amato styled fighters.
what fight did you watch?
Deegjunghe How about the first and second Patterson fight as well as the Buster Mathis fight. What fight did YOU watch? I hope you're not implying that these were hard fights for Ali....because you must be as blind as a bat.
wm young ali would not have whooped tyson. he might of out pointed him. but mike was better than patterson. he was faster, stronger, more powerful, and mastered cus' peekaboo style. tyson was just as quick as ali in a different way. ali in 64 vs tyson in 86 would have been the best fight in the history of boxing. i would pick 86 tyson against anybody. just my opinion of course
Tyson would beat Ali into the ground. Patterson is no Tyson at all.
ginzod agreed.
Ali fought like Dempsey in round 4
Mercante saving Patterson from himself. Great call.
30 FOR aLI WAS YOUNG!! MAN.. WHAT WE MISSED DURING ALI'S EXILE DURING THOSE 3 1/2 YEARS. IMAGINE!!!! ALI WOULD HAVE TAKEN MEN APART - HE WAS AN ACTIVE CHAMP 3-5 FIGHT'S PER YEAR, OR MORE. THAT'S WHEN WE MISSED THE BEST OF THE GREATEST.
Just looking at what frazier and patterson were able to do with similar inside fighting styles, I just feel like tyson would have been Ali's kryptonite. Unlike joe, either hand could knock you out, he also hit way harder than patterson and combinations like that from tyson would have been devastating. Let's be honest, muhammad ali had his hands down and got hit way too much throughout his career. Styles make fights, imo stylistically tyson is a bad match up for ali. Just like a prime george foreman would have been a nightmare for tyson.
thats quite a full head of hair that rocky graziano has also he is on his way to a safari i forgot how bad the 70s fashion was.
A correct stop .
Tyson was always better below 220. From Tyson losing some of his biggest fights(the fights that could of made him one of the g.o.a.t.), I seen that he was always 220 pounds or more. He beat Spinks at 220 but he lost to Douglas at that weight. He never lost below 220 which was probably due to his training. I'm basically saying Tyson lost because the other men trained better, even though we all know he shouldn't have.
sonofaballer96 ...Teddy Atlas and Kevin Rooney helped and trained Tyson after Cus D'Amato's death. However, Tyson fired Atlas and Rooney. Tyson's prima donna acts created his own downfall.
Patterson trained hard.
You don't have to be qualified to stop a fight just need a little instinct
He is the greatest
What yr was this fight
Taken?
Patterson a lot like Jerry Quarry, elite skills but undersized for a heavyweight.

During this fight alis probably saying to himself. Hmm I wonder if I should get a hamburger or a pizza pie for after this fight
Why the heck Floyd Patterson fighting Ali in 1972. Who ok’d this? I never knew they had a rematch. What for?
Где можно найти бои Мухаммеда Али с переводом на русский язык
Destroy is too strong a word.
Clearly Ali was not the same fighter as in their first bout.
Ali was a friend of Floyd in the first and second fight he could have knock him out easly but he didn't he wanted the fight to be stop...
He saied that he didn't wanted to hurt a men who already is ( floyd git pain on his back)
Floyd said that he were never been hit by so much soft punch.
People saied that Ali is cruel for humillied floyd but in fact he did not.
Ali did not say that he carried Floyd at first. He said he tried everything he could and Floyd wouldn't fall. It was Howard Cosell that kept on asking Ali that if he carried Floyd and after awhile Ali went along with that idea. Ali in his younger years was indeed an asshole. Floyd and Joe Fraizer helped out Ali when he needed it at the most and when there were nobody else. What kind of a friend call your friend "Uncle Tom" especially back in those days ? Joe did not forgive Ali for that 'till the day he died. And I have heard Ali told Floyd in 1996 that he was the only person besides his mother that can call him Cassius. It was Ali's way of saying to Floyd "I am sorry".
