    About the math part, the soon to be teacher in me just want to say there are no right or wrong way to calculate things if you come to the right solution anyways. The same thing can be done in so many ways and still work. Different people do math in different ways and that is as it should be. There are more or less efficent ways, yes, but that is not as important in real life even if much of math in school is about teaching out more efficent ways to calculate things.
    (Not becoming a math teacher, but this is what my general teaching studies have to offer has to offer as encouragment that you did not do the math in a "wrong" way. It worked, and that is what is important.)
    Also, the costume turned out awesome! I love the design.

    This is so wonderful and still such a marvel! Maybe your baby will wear it one day!! It's so great that you made a half scale to take half the time since you have a busy busy life, and otherwise I know I'd get overwhelmed and never even start.
    I'm gonna make a shirt waist using your method because it makes way more sense than others

    • @HattoHem
      @HattoHem  Před rokem +1

      I'd have to scale it up to fit him! That waistline wouldn't even have fit my big nine pound baby as a newborn! I've considering making the skirt in full size for myself because I like it so much, but I never found the fabric again. It was definitely an intimidating project, especially since it took a while to get back into my sewing room after having the baby. I'm so glad I did it though and I hope your shirtwaist is as satisfying for you!

    This outfit is so lovely and Lady a great choice of character to make an inspired outfit from.
    If I was to do a history inspired Disney costume I think I might do Duchess from The Aristocats as a Regency outfit seeing as white dresses were a thing then, and the accessories would be in her collar accent colour of gold and pearls. A spencer in either pink (mouth, nose colour) or grey (some of the pictures of Duchess show her as a pale gray with a white belly) or both would do nicely as a jacket, with maybe some blue embroidery around the dress hem to hark back to her blue eyes.

      Working at half scale is definitely a more budget-friendly alternative! I still get a lot of satisfaction out of it. I actually have a half-scale dress video coming out tomorrow. Maybe it can give you more of an idea of what this type of sewing can look like?

  • @habituscraeftig
    @habituscraeftig Před 2 lety +1

    I don't know that I would ever do historical Disneybounding, myself. The reason I watch projects like these is that I am on both sides of the fashion / historical dress divide. It's kind of rare to get wildly creative takes on historical dress that actually adhere primarily to historical shapes, and I find people are more creative on projects like these than when they are making historybounding garments for "everyday" use.
    That said, if I wasn't a white person, I'd be interested in doing Moana. I have been fascinated with tapa cloth since I was twelve years old, and I'm at a point in my life where I could conceivably just ... purchase some to play with? My goodness, being an adult is exciting!

    • @HattoHem
      @HattoHem  Před 2 lety +1

      I can't speak for everyone, but if I were history bounding, I would still want to reasonably blend in in a crowd. I think that definitely limits your options. I'm glad I was able to get creative with this project and I hope I can do more projects like this.
      Moana is awesome so that's a great choice! I'm not familiar with tapa cloth, but I like that you're so fascinated with it. Perk of working with half-scale is that you can experiment without spending too much, just saying ;)
