Just giving an update... I did remove the vent plugs as I mentioned earlier and the purge time was very little. I lust filled the transmissions with the plugs removed. I re-installed them when oil started running out. Then I did the normal movement of the handles like you are suppose to do. I checked the oil level throughout the process. Then mowed the yard. The process took about 1 hour total for the first time. The next time will be quicker. Thank-you for creating the video!
I didnt notice this the first time through but you should have a vent plug the requires an allen wrench. It is located on the inside of transmission at the top. For reference the oil filter is what I am calling the outside and the vent plug is on the inside. If you remove this plug it should help you get a majority of the air out when you fill it back up. Put it back in when oil starts to come out. This should help lessen the purge time. I am getting ready to do this oil change on my mower for the first time. I have been to hydro-gears website and downloaded their manual for the ZT-3100. Just more info. Good Luck!
+OutdoorsWithJim Thanks man. I had read about that but wasn't sure so I just did it the slow way which took all weekend haha!! I will definitely do that next time! Probably make a part 2 vid!
yup same engine. I went to two different dealers for the hydro filters and they both said 15w 50 synthetic. I used it and so far so good! I shouldn't have to change again for another 250 hrs. yeah the turbo deck is top of the line! does a great job and always gives a perfect cut! can you do a video of your machine?
maybe ours isnt identical lol.my manual says 20w 50 or the toro brand for the hydros(doesnt say synthetic either)).Your motor 20.5 Kawi too? My local dealer knows ABSOLUTELY nothing so all the info i have learned is from the web and you.He was completely illiterate and to boot ,was the owner.Toro's turbo deck is amazing,i can blow driveways off with just the deck saving me blower time lol. Thanks for the help i really appreciate !
I did this again last week.Found if you just fill reservoir and let it sit(repeat several times). It makes it so much easier to bleed.SO much easier.Patience is hard though lol
Well any trick you find out let me know! lol Takes to long! I also changed the air filters today. Now im set for a few hours :) You still happy with yours? I like mine more every year.its my workhorse for real
mine was actually at the right level when I bought it. I did this change myself according to the maintenance manual. it does call for 15w 50 synthetic. it should be about halfway full in the res. when it's cold. I don't have the adjustable baffle on this one it's a 2000 series. I need a mulch kit for it. hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Did you do unscrew any of the vent plugs so you could add the hydro fluid quickly. On my gravely it literally took a day of slowly adding fluid in the reservoirs before the trans were filled. If you have a better method id love to hear it. I saw yours is the 3100 and mine is the 3200. Theyve almost got to to be the same.
Very good video, I have a toro o/t model 74373 Z5030 I don’t think it has a oil tank on it like u have, will turn left but chatters turning right what do u think? Would like to check the oil level not sure how, can’t find anything online.
Hi NYRAPTOR, I successfully changed the hydro oil on both of my Toro zero turns thanks to your video, but had a quick follow up question. The second mower I changed, I let it get all the air out and didn’t see any bubbling in the oil tank so I used it all day yesterday. All of a sudden mid mow it just stopped moving. Is it possible not all the air was let out? The tank still has hydro oil in it, possibly too much? Thanks
my guess would be still some air left in the system. not too sure of any other reason. thanks for watching and glad the video helped you out! it took me a long time to get all of the air out of my system.
You might consider crossing that filter with a Napa Gold to save some dollars. That filter is probably a 52114 which crosses to a Wix WL10102 and a Napa Gold FIL400102. Wix rebrands their filters to other companies name for their products. To cross the filter or any filter go to www.wixfilters.com/ and use the look-up tool. Just skip the make and model junk and enter in the number and hit search. It will give you the cross reference number. Just a fyi... I do like your video. It has given me some insight on what I am facing with my mower. Thank-you!
+OutdoorsWithJim Thanks!! I will definitely look into it. every little bit helps! I actually got these filters from an exmark dealer. Glad the vid can help!!
Yea I'll make a vid.never have before(for CZcams I mean) I asked savagenomore what he used to edit vid so I have to learn.so don't expect much for my first vid haha.it will be bad I'm sure
I have a Toro Timecutter SS4255 and the tracking is fine. However, the right steering arm is very loose and wobbly, for lack of a better description. How can I tighten this arm?
Hi I just did this on my Toro Titan mx5400 and after putting the oil in the mower won’t even move. Is this normal as the oil works its way through? Update: I just needed to let it bleed out a bit more.
you would have air in the hydros and they would probably burn up from lack of fluid. once all the air has come out and you fill to the right level, then you know the pumps are full with the right amount of fluid. mine ended up taking 4 1/2 quarts of 15-50 synthetic
About to attempt this on my mower. Mine calls for 9 Qts !!! of 15w-40 synthetic. I cant find anyone locally that has it. I noticed you were using NAPA 15w-50.. Would I be able to use a different viscosity such as the 50 or should I strictly stick with what it calls for?
I think it would be ok to use the 15/50 but you may want to check with a local dealer. I don't even know what mine calls for I just went with what the mechanic at the dealer told me. it's still working good too!!

I didn't see any vent plugs when I was under there. I hear ya though it took me all weekend to fill it and bleed it lol!! my neighbor had a good idea to add some sort of vent tube with a cap.
Whats weird is the manual shows a plug toward the top of the trans which lets you fill it quickly. I never found it but if I learn anything ill def keep you updated.

+OutdoorsWithJim That is awesome!!!!
When the mower is up in the air and the mower is on do the wheels should spin by themselves?
Nice vid! Savin to my favs!
Very useful video. Thanks.
Glad I could help!!!
Thanks man!! first time for me

Very Nice! Need to change mine soon too. Can't remember since I changed mine!
cool man!
When it comes to purging the book says to pull the levers on the trans to disengage them. Then go back and forth a few times. Worked perfect.
i'll have to do that next time. that makes more sense
There is a video here on youtube on purging which was very helpful haha.
lol!!
Thanks Bud!!!
Thanks man! Not as bad as I thought it was going to be

Well any trick you find out let me know! lol Takes to long! I also changed the air filters today. Now im set for a few hours :) You still happy with yours? I like mine more every year.its my workhorse for real
It has never let me down!
Thanks man Awesome!!!! Hope it helps you out
Ohh that makes sense thanks

Nice. Now you can come maintain my equipment lol
Mine does not have any reservoirs and does not say I have to change it ever in the manual
man I would have thought you'd put hydraulic oil in there...
that thing sounds pretty sweet idling...
like the energizer bunny....lol...
you put synthetic motor oil in your hydro pump? wont that damage the pump?
How Mach oil each side
Nice and helpful bideo thanks
yeah it's all in one now so everything is enclosed. it wasn't bad though just takes a long time to bleed the system.

Don't really know too much about that model but thanks for watching the vid! I no longer have this mower.
No drain plugs on the bottom?

NYRAPTOR6 Thanks I bet that’s what it is, I’m hoping I didn’t put too much hydro oil in but I’ll be taking a look at it tomorrow.
ha ha Thanks!!!

+OutdoorsWithJim Thanks!! I will definitely look into it. every little bit helps! I actually got these filters from an exmark dealer. Glad the vid can help!!
+NYRAPTOR6 My Exmark dealer wants me to pay $32 each and Napa is $17.55. Just a fyi... Good Luck! Thank-you again!
+NYRAPTOR6 Also dont forget to cross the engine oil filter number. One stop shop for everything.
definitely. Thanks again!
What would happen if you didn't bleed the system?
Yea I'll make a vid.never have before(for CZcams I mean) I asked savagenomore what he used to edit vid so I have to learn.so don't expect much for my first vid haha.it will be bad I'm sure
I have a Toro Timecutter SS4255 and the tracking is fine. However, the right steering arm is very loose and wobbly, for lack of a better description. How can I tighten this arm?
+Chris Sonnier Not too sure on that model. you could try to follow the arm down to where it's bolted on and see if that's where the problem is
+NYRAPTOR6 thank you Sir. I should have been more specific, but I was referring to the Motion Control Shaft, not the bolt on arm itself.
no problem. I looked at mine but I don't see any way to tighten that. might want to bring it to a local dealer. hopefully it's an easy fix!
+NYRAPTOR6 Thank you for checking into it. I appreciate your time
you're welcome.
How many hours to change hydro fluid I have a toro titan hd 1500 series with 136 on it ?
It took me most of the weekend to bleed the air out of the system.
Hi I just did this on my Toro Titan mx5400 and after putting the oil in the mower won’t even move. Is this normal as the oil works its way through?
Update: I just needed to let it bleed out a bit more.
yeah it takes a while to get the air out. glad it worked for you.
ha ha yup!
you would have air in the hydros and they would probably burn up from lack of fluid. once all the air has come out and you fill to the right level, then you know the pumps are full with the right amount of fluid. mine ended up taking 4 1/2 quarts of 15-50 synthetic
it took 3 days to purge the air on my fast cat mower!..lol
I hear ya man!! it took the whole weekend for me ha ha!!
how often should this oil and filter be changed thank you.
+Ignacio Delgado for my machine it's around every 250 to 300 hrs. Hope that helps
that's what I thought also!! turns out it's 15-50 synthetic oil...... still bubbling..........
hi, mine came from the dealer low in hydraulic oil can i use 15w-50 motor oil to refilling?
+Alex Hdz yes use synthetic 15 w50
Thanks!
no problem. Thanks for watching!
that filter is always hard to remove. Especially when your wrench is turned the wrong way
You might want to take a closer look. Wrench was 100 percent the right way. Why would I try to tighten them?
what type of oil?
15w 50 synthetic
How much cost the filter each? I ask the dealer he ask 75 $ is that real price for an oil filter?
im not sure but napa auto parts has them. not 75 dollars much cheaper than that.
@@NYRAPTOR6 I will go to Napa and check.thanks

How often should this be done?
For mine it was after the first 100 hours and then after about every 300.
lol...still bubbling
sure drop it off and i'll have it back to you Tuesday......... ha ha
still going.........
