  • I was going to head down to the beach for some casting practice with new rods and reels but that seemed pointless when I could add a rig and bait.
    Armed with a new pair of AFAW match Pro’s coupled with Penn Fathom 12 sd’s my first few casts went well and I was soon winding off the mags and casting further with less effort.
    I considered the Tournament & match Pro’s for some time before settling on the match. I wanted a more tippy rod than the 6&B and my fathom casting specials are too much reel for most of my fishing, I am not a tournament caster. 😂
    The clothing i wear in this film is my favourite in comparison to anything else i have tried/worn and is available from…

    Eazy mark you ok pal, well done on the gurnard. We have all cut the line instead of elastic hahaha. At least with a pulley you can get away with it. All the best from GRIMSBY.

      How do, Carl?
      Even as I did it the realisation was there. Like you say, we’ve all done it and I’m sure I’ll do it again sometime.

    I changed my 6 n Baits recently for exactly the same reasons , tho I couldnt afford to go with the red rods I went for the 4 n Baits and I must say they are amazing for pretty much everything so far , from hounds to flatties I cant fault them

      Hey Richard, early days yet but this is my second session getting to grips with rods and reels. The bite indication on these is very good and being harassed by smaller fish is clearly seen. I like being able to wind the tip over without unseating a 6oz grip lead.

    Hi Mark
    I also have done the same thing as yourself. I have a pair of Akios Airpower Surfs rated up to 4-8oz great rods for the heavy fishing but I wanted something lighter for the everyday so I bought a pair of Century T-800's rated at 4-6oz great light everyday fishing rods. Both setups matched with Penn 515's

      @seaangling  Před 10 měsíci

      It is difficult to find genuine reviews where people have used the kit and have no affiliations. Hopefully anyone searching for these topics may stumble across the information like yours and piece together what is good for their use. How are you find the 515’s?

      @@seaangling I totally agree, most of our info comes from working it out for ourselves so any help for the new comers is humbly given!
      the Penn 515 mag 4's for me are really good fast friendly reels and will happily put in a good distance if needed. I used to be an avid ABU 6500 user but now they feel a bit alien in my hands.
      carry on the good work and who knows...we may be on the same beach some day

    I use to fish very near where you were in the late 60's. We called it Becton. We fished to the right of the old s..t pipe. Barton has changed so much since I was a young lad. A favourite beach I liked to fish was a little to your left. Taddiford. Great video. Hope you do well on chesil

      I’ll have another look at the map and get my bearings, there is a whole area to explore around there. Chesil started off very cold this morning (4degrees) but the sun is out and it is warming up.

    Hi Mark, super video again. I moved from the Casting Specials to the 12SDs and am very happy with them. Nice and light but very robust and the handle gives you a great retrieve power.
    Interested in your Reed Chillcheater clothing. Is it a generous fit and is it warm? Looking to invest in some winter clothing. Thank you.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The Reed clothing is waterproof, stretchy and warm. For a base layer have a look at Daiwa sleep skins. They work perfectly with the Reed kit.

    Hi Mark another informative video loved it, I fished those beaches years ago as we used to holiday at the Naish holiday park. Those sissors you mentioned are on ebay under another name think it's called seadra I'm 99% sure they're the mustard ones.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  Před 11 měsíci

      Hi Dave, the ones I have are marked Seadra but it is strange that all of a sudden the Mustad ones disappeared. The pattern whether Mustad or Seadra is spot on for baiting up for sea angling. Better than any others I’ve tried. I’ll be back here again for another go some time soon.

    What do you mean by taking shields out ? Have you removed something completely?

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The spool has 2 bearings and each bearing has a shield and a clip on each side. When cleaning and oiling I remove both clips, both shields and wash in lighter fuel. Dry thoroughly and then oil and replace the shields and clips. This feels like the only way to really clean out the muck and oil accurately although others do it differently.

      @seaangling  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@RichardDommett braid straight through is a personal choice but has no stretch and so you might experience hook pulls. It will collect fine weed in certain conditions but have reduced drag in tide if the diameter is right.
      For the boat fishing it will depend on your position on the boat and if you are up-tiding or down-tiding. A straight running ledger down tide with a hook snood between 3’-6’ depending on species, tide or ground.
