i am half Cuban yet i have only been there once or twice in my life when i was very young, after watching this video i really wanna visit some of my family who live over there. i remember nothing from when i visited several years ago.
How did you get back and forth from Havana to the other cities like Varadero, Soroa, & Viñales? Does the driver wait for hours while you explore those areas, or do you need to call them back to pick you up, and if so how? Also, approximately how much does it cost (the travel back and forth)? Love your videos!
Thank you! My driver took me everywhere. You’ll have to ask him for his rates for where you want to go. In some instances he’d wait or come back after a couple hours. In others we invited him to join us and hang out. The driver would help you with all that any questions you have tho (:
I agree with everything she says about Cuba in this video. I just got back Feb 28, 2020. One more tip budget at least $30 a day for taxi. I believe this was my biggest expenses that I didn’t account for. There is a tour guide next to Hotel Parque Central his name is Mr. Havana. He is the best tour guide there speaks great English.
I enjoyed your video Romina. We have been to Cuba twice already, and are planning another trip this year. Next time you're in Havana I would suggest checking out the Tropicana. Also Santiago de Cuba is worth visiting. You can get there by Russian made helicopter tours.
Just got back from Cuba and wow, what a trip. The most unique place you're likely to see, both good and bad. Old cars everywhere, amazing cheap rum and phenomenal music. But also things that will frustrate you, things just don't work as we're used to them.
I went to Cuba last year for a month, went to Havana, Viñales, Trinidad, Santiago and Baracoa! But I can't believe I missed Soroa. It sounds exactly up my alley. Beautiful nature and waterfalls... oh well, next time! Beautiful video Romina. 👌🏼😊

I will vouche that Varadero beaches are amazing! I went to one with my university class on a two week missions trip in May and had a wonderful time there. I wish we had known about the Beatle-themed restaurant though. #YTCM
+Romina Oh gosh, so much. We visited different churches in Holguin, Las Tunas, Ciego de Avila, Matanzas and Havana and spent time getting to know the people. We went to Gibara's look-off point which was fabulous. We got to experience a special anniversary ceremony for the Revolution. So much happened! I have a couple videos on my channel showing my entire trip.
I am cuban. The thing with Varadero is that I think is too over exploited. Every square inch has been used. Santa María is sitill more natural to me and is also less accessible from the mainland.
Hi! You had mentioned commenting below if one would be interested in knowing how you physically traveled to Cuba, since that was challenging. I would like to go, My husband is half Cuban and has extended family there...not sure if that matters in visiting or staying with anyone? I heard that some people have to have a license to host people? We are interested in knowing what documentation is needed other than our U.S. passports and your flight itinerary. Thanks for watching! You’ll have to do further research as I know these regulations change quite a bit and I don’t want to give you the wrong information. I don’t know about the license required to host someone since I stayed at an Airbnb personally. As far as having family there, I got the family visa and all I showed at the airport was my passport and visa. It was not too difficult to go. Again, these things can be different so I would keep asking around and research further.

I've never been to a gourmet restaurant there for sure, always tried to stick with the local stuff. I'll have to check one of these places out next time for sure!
+Elizabeth Travels the thing is that a lot of these paladares have really gourmet Cuban food. It is local. ^_^ Just ask around when you are there for a good paladar that serves Cuban food. La Vitrola is a good one in Havana.

Yes I love traveling by motorcycle, you do interact so much more with the local people, and it makes you more interesting to them also, people always want to come up and talk, we will be staying in a "casa particulares" at least two of the nights that we are there, so that will be even better. This will be the 12th country that I have ridden across. Another one we have in common is South Africa, I rode there last year and I also got to spend a lot of time with a Cheetah! It's was free to roam at a place I stayed at in Namibia that took care of Rhinos. I'm a real cat person to start with and then we arrived at this place with this beautiful cat and I pet her until bedtime and petted her again all morning until we had to leave. Same characteristics as my house cat, but that purring is SO loud! haha. We rode 3,000 miles, mostly dirt, (same distance as across America from coast to coast) from Cape Town through Namibia and Botswana to Victoria falls in Zimbabwe.
Narendra Sukhdeo it was wonderful, all the people are nice and friendly and helpful, great food, I ate a lobster just about every day I was there, and of course there is fresh fruit every where, in the country side, just pick a papaya or coconut or bananas right off the trees 😁

The best time to visit Cuba is the dry season, from November to April. They often have hurricanes during the wet. We travelled through Cuba in September and were lucky, we had only one day of very heavy rain.

Great! Thank you for watching. I’m not sure what the weather is like in Feb. I went in September and it was very sunny and hot! All of the people I met spoke English. You should definitely learn some important words in Spanish though.
It doesn't get really cold in Cuba so you can expect more than 20°C at night it gets colder but because of the humide climate it doesnt feel that cold and their english is not that good just a few know how to speak another language .you could maybe learn some phrases for better understanding

Did you have any issue planning your trip as an American? Under what basis did you travel? The most popular one I've learned is people to people but not sure how that works and what is required.
+Macintosh Windows yes most people do get people to people and that's probably your best bet. Mine was different because I was reconnecting with family and there is one that is called something like that. People to people is all about connecting with the culture and the people. So don't go posting any photos to Facebook of you only having fun at the beach. 😉 Now it's even easier to go to Cuba because of the direct flights. When I went, they still hadn't introduced that. So I had to fly through Panama.
amillion77 we paid $100 for three of us in a private taxi. The bus is $25 per person and you will need to buy tickets one day before and pay a taxi from the bus station to your lodging . You may also find a colectivo taxi if you ask around.
I have just returned from Cuba, what a fascinating place! If you desire to go, go now! See it before BKing, McD, StarB ruin the true beautiful Cuban culture. Just my opinion. Peace.
Hi Romina, I have to opportunity is visit either Cuba or Havasupai Falls. I noticed that you have been to both, which place is better and why? I will be in Cancun for vacation so trying to decide wether to visit Cuba or fly straight to LV then hike down to hvavasupai falls. Tough decision I know!
They are both very different. Depends on what you are looking for. I love both equally. You might want to check havasupai and see if they have openings when you want to go.

How do I know I'm using someone reputable? How much does a 3hr ride around the island cost? I'm just afraid I will be taken. I will be with someone that know the language very well, her first language. This trip is going to be a surprise until I have to tell her. Any help will be very much appreciated!
If you want a driver, contact mine! I think I put his info in the description of the video. He is extremely trustworthy. If he cannot drive you, then I am sure he will recommend someone reputable. For the most part the Cuban people just want to make money and leave a good impression. Most of them care about the tourism so they won’t take advantage because that leaves a bad reputation. They want people to come back. Contact the driver I used, he speaks English pretty well and knows about the sketchy things better than I do! 💙🖖
How much are the convertible car rides? And how do you get to, say, Trinidad? Love your videos. We watched a ton of videos and yours are by far the best.
I think it was something like $30? I don’t remember exactly now sorry. I used a private driver to get to all of the cities I wanted to go to. I personally didn’t go to Trinidad so I can’t tell you exactly how to get there but the best way would be to use a private driver or get on the bus. (: thank you for watching! Cuba is safe to travel alone but like any foreign country you are not familiar with, don’t go down any unfamiliar streets. And be careful with what you have visible and on you. (:
You can apply to get a visa to go to Cuba. There are different categories. More than likely you will end up with one called "people to people". Look that up and you will get more info. You can go, just not as a tourist. They have a number of different categories. Most tour companies are providing tours to Cuba through "people to people"
Haha the reason I don’t is because 1) prices for destinations change all of the time and 2) because I ALWAYS try to negotiate 😂 Also, a lot of the things I mentioned in this video vary in prices. For example, the paladares you could have one meal for $3 or $15. So I just didn’t want to get into all of that. 😅
Great Video, but this is more of a "Things to do in the Havana area" instead of Cuba. Cuba is pretty large and it has some great places all around Cuba. Most are pristine and untouched! Cheers!

Not sure if you watched the whole thing, but 2 of the 5 activities I mentioned are HOURS away from Havana, only 1 is in the centre of Havana, another 1 is about all of Cuba and the other is on the outskirts of Havana. (: So... calling it things to do in Havana when only 1 out of 5 of the activities are in Havana wouldn't be correct!

Romina, I'm just pointing out your title is top 5 Cuba things and im just disagreeing with your consideration of Cuba and top things to do that you pointed out are all within hours of Havana. You left out many great places that are on the other side of the country and not just the surrounding area of Havana (within few hours). I don't understand why you don't get what I'm saying? Have you travelled to Isla de la juventud, Santiago, Holguin? Either way, born in Holguin live in Canada. I hope you do get to see those places in the future if you haven't and maybe include some of them in your"Cuba list". You just stated that Cuba is huge and you can't possibly pick only 5 things, but your video states that as your title. Have a good one.

I believe when people say best beach is in varadero I think its overrated. It's actually santa maria with 4 miles long white sand beach.

Narendra Sukhdeo it was wonderful, all the people are nice and friendly and helpful, great food, I ate a lobster just about every day I was there, and of course there is fresh fruit every where, in the country side, just pick a papaya or coconut or bananas right off the trees 😁

Thank you! That's great you're going. I stayed in Havana the whole time I was there. But there are plenty of places to stay in Cuba. I'm sure you could find an airbnb in Varadero.

The best time to visit Cuba is the dry season, from November to April. They often have hurricanes during the wet.
We travelled through Cuba in September and were lucky, we had only one day of very heavy rain.

Great! Thank you for watching. I’m not sure what the weather is like in Feb. I went in September and it was very sunny and hot! All of the people I met spoke English. You should definitely learn some important words in Spanish though.
Température often drop around 18-20°c at night
It doesn't get really cold in Cuba so you can expect more than 20°C at night it gets colder but because of the humide climate it doesnt feel that cold and their english is not that good just a few know how to speak another language .you could maybe learn some phrases for better understanding

I'm planning to visit need guidance on travelling on a budget. From s.a which airline is the cheapest to travel.
Did you have any issue planning your trip as an American? Under what basis did you travel? The most popular one I've learned is people to people but not sure how that works and what is required.
+Macintosh Windows yes most people do get people to people and that's probably your best bet. Mine was different because I was reconnecting with family and there is one that is called something like that. People to people is all about connecting with the culture and the people. So don't go posting any photos to Facebook of you only having fun at the beach. 😉 Now it's even easier to go to Cuba because of the direct flights. When I went, they still hadn't introduced that. So I had to fly through Panama.

How did you get around Cuba? You mentioned you had a driver? Di you recommend that? Is it expensive?
+The Wandering Wanderluster I had a driver. It's not too expensive. You can get drivers for around $30/day depending. I do recommend it!
How much was the ride to varadero beach? I hear it's two hours away from Havana
+amillion77 yes it's two hours away from Havana. I had a driver the whole time I was in Cuba so I am not sure how much that specific ride would cost!
amillion77 we paid $100 for three of us in a private taxi. The bus is $25 per person and you will need to buy tickets one day before and pay a taxi from the bus station to your lodging . You may also find a colectivo taxi if you ask around.

Hi Romina, I have to opportunity is visit either Cuba or Havasupai Falls. I noticed that you have been to both, which place is better and why? I will be in Cancun for vacation so trying to decide wether to visit Cuba or fly straight to LV then hike down to hvavasupai falls. Tough decision I know!
They are both very different. Depends on what you are looking for. I love both equally. You might want to check havasupai and see if they have openings when you want to go.

How do I know I'm using someone reputable? How much does a 3hr ride around the island cost? I'm just afraid I will be taken. I will be with someone that know the language very well, her first language. This trip is going to be a surprise until I have to tell her. Any help will be very much appreciated!
If you want a driver, contact mine! I think I put his info in the description of the video. He is extremely trustworthy. If he cannot drive you, then I am sure he will recommend someone reputable. For the most part the Cuban people just want to make money and leave a good impression. Most of them care about the tourism so they won’t take advantage because that leaves a bad reputation. They want people to come back. Contact the driver I used, he speaks English pretty well and knows about the sketchy things better than I do! 💙🖖

I think it was something like $30? I don’t remember exactly now sorry. I used a private driver to get to all of the cities I wanted to go to. I personally didn’t go to Trinidad so I can’t tell you exactly how to get there but the best way would be to use a private driver or get on the bus. (: thank you for watching! You can apply to get a visa to go to Cuba. There are different categories. More than likely you will end up with one called "people to people". Look that up and you will get more info. You can go, just not as a tourist. They have a number of different categories. Most tour companies are providing tours to Cuba through "people to people"

Haha the reason I don’t is because 1) prices for destinations change all of the time and 2) because I ALWAYS try to negotiate 😂 Also, a lot of the things I mentioned in this video vary in prices. For example, the paladares you could have one meal for $3 or $15. So I just didn’t want to get into all of that. 😅

Yes. They will try their best to accommodate.

Great Video, but this is more of a "Things to do in the Havana area" instead of Cuba. Cuba is pretty large and it has some great places all around Cuba. Most are pristine and untouched! Cheers!

Not sure if you watched the whole thing, but 2 of the 5 activities I mentioned are HOURS away from Havana, only 1 is in the centre of Havana, another 1 is about all of Cuba and the other is on the outskirts of Havana. (: So... calling it things to do in Havana when only 1 out of 5 of the activities are in Havana wouldn't be correct!

I'm just pointing out that there are great places to go and see in Holguin, Isla de la juventud, Santiago de Cuba and many others. Romina, I'm just pointing out your title is top 5 Cuba things and im just disagreeing with your consideration of Cuba and top things to do that you pointed out are all within hours of Havana. You left out many great places that are on the other side of the country and not just the surrounding area of Havana (within few hours). I don't understand why you don't get what I'm saying? Have you travelled to Isla de la juventud, Santiago, Holguin? Either way, born in Holguin live in Canada. I hope you do get to see those places in the future if you haven't and maybe include some of them in your"Cuba list". Yes. It's very safe there. (: Most people are incredibly nice and will go out of their way to make you feel great during your time there.
