What makes Slashâs solos so good is he plays within the melody of song. He doesnât just play a bunch of different notes fast .
he's harmonized with Shannon Hoon, who later became the lead singer of his own band Blind Melon. Hoon did background vocals on both Use Your Illusion albums
blind melon!!! another incredible band!!!
would love brads reaction to no rain!!!!
Very easy to tell there are layers of vocal in there. I donât get why the hell Brad didnât pick up that.
@@thierryhenry674 because he is listening to the lyrics for the message of the song. Very focused on that task.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I love blind melon and would have loved to have heard where Shannon would have gone.
I think what lex is trying to say is slash puts ALOT of emotion in his solos, true masterpieces Iâm so glad your getting into G&Râšâš
Slash almost has heart attacks leading upto a big solo he spoke about in his book he has a pace maker
Slash's solos will have you drooling LOL
@@catalickconverta6823 that was also not helped by the smoking and drugs as well
I get what you mean about slash's solos. He pours his soul out on every note. I've been listening to him for 30 years and still get the same goosebumps everytime.
Grew up to this
Definitely one of the best
Dan right
Awesome! When u do "November Rain" you need to do the Music Video. Its a must. Actually all three of these songs should be Music Videos. Its a story.1.7 Billion views on November Rain â€ïž
Yes.
Then Estranged. The Entire Trilogy
Itâs time, video a must!
Itâs not 1.7billion cause of the video, but more cause of the song itself
@@pleutron no shit. I never said it was because if the video. I just said all 3 should be videos. It seems you're the only one that didnt get that.
Probably in the comments already but Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon is the high register voice in this song. Great band, very unique!
They were going to listen to a Blind Melon one night but they didnât put it in the options. Would love for them to listen to them.
Really. Iâve never known that. Bought Use Your Illusion when it was released ⊠but had to save up to buy the other (I think I started with II).
@@smtcharlie watch the real video. Heâs in the video especially I know at the end of it singing.
Shannon and Axl were high school friends from Indiana. I went through a big time Blind Melon phase and would love to see a reaction to anything on the Soup album. Galaxie, Vernie, 2x4...a lot of good ones to choose from!
Theres another person singing on the song. Was a good friend of Axls's called Shannon Hoon. First song written when Guns N Roses formed in 1985
Shannon was his cousin...but he later died
@@alexanderjalowiecki7357 No he wasn't. Axl was a friend of his sister Anna and then they became friends. Got your information wrong there I'm afraid.
One of my favorites on the "Use your Illusion "album is "14 years " but there are a lot of hidden gems on that double album
Definitely an underrated song of theirs that doesn't get enough play.
Sang by Izzy! Awesome one. My favourite from use your illusion 2, itâs probably âBreakdownâ. Lyric masterpiece
@@heliosvice I agree đ
November Rain is the next song in the Story. It is a true masterpiece. It was the first song pre CZcams to get a billion views. The music video is one of the best and most expensive even made. Estranged is the last song in the trillogy and it is super epic. Don't cry is just the starter, you have the main and dessert to come. These songs were different for Guns N Roses at the time because they were so epic. Especially November Rain and Estranged. Axl was the genius behind these songs. The rest of the band would have just kept doing their hard rock stuff. Axl wanted Guns N Roses to be as big as the Beatles or Queen. You can differently here this in November Rain. If they had stayed together the whole time then they would have been as big as the Beatles and Queen. Either way they are still one of the biggest bands of all time having sold over 100 million albums world wide. Sweet Child O' Mine is my fav song of all time, followed closely by November Rain.
I've never really got the love for November Rain. The second half is great, but the synths and melody on the first half just rub me the wrong way. My GNR ranking would be every song on Appetite, then You Could Be Mine and Don't Cry.
I hope they follow this order and maybe patience also
Estranged and patience are my favorite gnr songs
@@Xenon0000000000001 I agree with you. It's not a horrible song but there are a ton of better GNR songs than November Rain.
I say this as a parent of a child who is born in November named Rayne and also walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of it. So yes, I appreciate it, but there are way better songs. In terms of ballads, Estranged eclipses NR.
The vocal layering was done with Blind Melon's lead vocalist Shannon Hoon who sings an octave higher than Rose in this song.
If Axl would have had a normal mental state, they would have cast a shadow over the Rolling Stones. These guys had IT.. everything..
Yeah, that's hard to believe with Axl writing songs like "My World", "Oh My God" and "Silkworms". That industrial journey he keeps trying to force on fans, kills any shot at that.
They been had cast a shadow over them.
Agreed I was one the fans he screwed. Body Count, Metallica, GnR live mile high stadium. Axl came out sang half of Welcome to the Jungle than stormed off stage.
Without Axl Rose you would never have gnr!!
It's actually his behaviour and attitude that gave gnr the reputation that they had.
He was the ultimate all American boy!!
@@perrysaker1526 tell em Perry!
Another great ballad from GnR is Patience. On a side note Chris Cornell did a real cool cover of it that i would also recommend you listen too
I agree with the first sentence
Cornell's version was lazy and boring.
@@Hallucination I don't know if it was lazy and boring but that fake drum track drives me bonkers! They did Cornell dirty by using computer generated music behind his vocals. He may have did that himself but I think it was added post-mortem to push the song out.
Cornell is an amazing artist and usually takes a cover song and make it his own but I think I only listened to his version of Patience once.
My Michelle is a great GNR song to check out. Thanks for another great reaction guys. Much love.
Shannon Hoon, the late singer of Blind Melon sang on this track w/ Axl Rose...
GNR had backing vocals from both Duff McKagan (bass) & Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar)
Axl Rose was harmonizing with Richard Shannon Hoon, the former lead singer of Blind Melon.
"You Could Be Mine" from T2!
I'm going to be 51 , and still rocking out the guns and roses đč, best rock group đ ever,
Slash isnât the most technical guitarist, but he has a feel and melodic skills like no other.
Technical or not.....he is easily in the top 3 guitarists ever.
I mean, dude has a whole series of a video game where he's the end boss to beat.
@@Uriel77200 Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton
@@voodoocustompickups2547 's/Eric Clapton/David Gilmour/g'
"best" is sooo subjective. If you like a style of music your gonna lean that way. There are so many great guitarist and just because YOUR list has certain people on it doesnt mean that the list of others is invalid. Personal preference has a lot to do with top 10 lists. Pioneers, catalog of music, technical ability, live ability, songwriting skills and on and on. If someone thinks Slash is top 3 doesnt mean he isnt just because YOU dont think its correct, very subjective. Too much music to put other people's lists down
Lex' reaction to slash' solos are everything to me đ
Slashs solos serve every song from November rain to estranged etc etc he plays heartfelt notes to blazing shreds. Guns fan forever â€
Shannon Hoon is the vocals that makes this song. He passed away in '95 and his band "Blind Melon" changed my life. Every song on the first album is full of deep lyrics.
Like Shannon. Or liked. Very sad. But he most Definitely didnât MAKE this song. đ. I get he changed your lifeâŠ.which is why music is so great.
Give props to Axl for even having him on the song. It would have been a big hit no matter who sang background. Axl Made Shannon. Both from same town, along w/Izzy.
Shannon has been missed tho!!!
Keep on dreaminâ boy, âcause when you stop dreaminâ itâs time to dieâŠ
Idk if that message is to someone, Or if your just making a comment in genera?? But, itâs true!!!
@@keithwessel3531 It's a lyric from a Blind Melon song. Over your head.
@@mikesmelon5714 aaaah. So true!!
So beautiful, very good!
"I will still be thinking of you and the times we had, baby"
Slash is one of the goats don't forget it... he inspired generations đ
As someone else has said the next in the trilogy is "Estranged "
Donât do the cheesy video though đ€Šââïž
Don't cry alt lyrics part 4 ?
this girl is a keeper....look how she really deep into axl voice and how the guitar sounds flow ....she is my type
Slash is a true guitar hero! He is one of the few guitarist that you can recognize just from the way he plays and by his sound.
2:48 One of the best "Drops" in Power-Ballad history.
How she explained the way Slash plays is exactly the way I've always felt. The little grin every time he comes in is perfect.
Gotta check out 'November Rain'
Slash' guitar work on Guns and Roses albums is phenomenal he has a great ear for melody his choice of notes is just on point there's a lot of players that came after guns that are influenced in some way by him, he's definitely my number one player show me a player that's wrote as many solos that are so recogniseable
đŻ last true hard rock guitar icon
See now you got to do November rain and then estranged and it will complete the trilogy because the order they go in is donât cry then November rain ending with estranged
I think Estranged is my favorite of the series but all 3 are great but doesn't the alternative version screw up the trilogy ?
Shannon hoon from blind melon does backing vocals on this !!! You have to check out blind melon the best ever !!
RIP Shannon. Great singer gone way too soon!
You two have such a great ear for music. You notice things on the first go that I've never noticed!
The high pitched voice thatâs harmonizing with Axl is actually the voice of Shannon Hoon from the band Blind Melon. Axl knew Shannon from their home town in Indiana, and Shannon had a beautiful voice. Unfortunately Shannon, like a lot of his contemporaries, died of a drug overdose. I would highly recommend reacting to some blind melon songs as they are a unique band from the 90s that do not get enough credit. My personal favorites of theirs are âDear Oâl dadâ and âtones of homeâ. Shannon had a really unique and soulful voice, and the duel guitar work in Blind Melon is really beautiful.
Lex this my music from my youth. You would fit in so good. There is nothing like being in the crowd of thousands every one singing the same song. There is nothing like it
I wore this album out when it came out. I was 16. I hade both tapes and played them nonstop. Thia song made me cry the first time I heard it.
in an article, Axle said he was super stoned when he held that ending note.
Your Guns n Roses reactions are âcanât-missâ to me now..you two always do a great job very entertainingđ€đŒđđŒ And Just think you guyâs still havenât reacted to whatâs gonna be(based on my extensive analysis)your favorite Guns and Roses track âMr.Brownstoneâ and another really good one is âBetterâ..just the regular studio versionâs with those thatâs all youâll need easy..keep up the great work guyâs channel sounds greatđđŒ
That's not Axl layered, he's singing with Shannon Hoon of Blind Mellon. Believe it or not it's one of the first songs they ever wrote as a band. Before Appetite for destruction.
i love how axl builds his voice up from a soft whisper to his trade mark sound. awesome
You are absolutely correct about Slash. I highly suggest you check out his version of the godfather theme. EPIC!
My suggestion for your next GnR reaction is Rocket Queen. You'll love the hard transition in the song.
I'm with Lex, that song is immersive and transports you to a different realm.
Their is two versions of this song each one is on the use your illusion albums, this particular version is the original which is on use your illusion 1 , the other version is on use your illusion 2 give that one a listen
The orgin of this song goes back to 1985. Izzy Stradlin ( the bands rythm guitarist and song writer) was dating a girl Axl had a big crush on. When Izzy and the girl broke up, Axl tried to date her. She said no. He cried and she told him don't cry. Later that night Axl and Izzy wrote the song in 5 minutes and became the first official song of the new and legendary line up for Guns N' Roses, recorded in 1985. But didn't come out officially until 1991.
Wait until you see Axl Rose sing this live.
One of my fav songs...
The background vocals on the Use your Illusion albums are Shannon Hoon of Blind melon.
Rip Shannon Hoon. Such an amazing talent!
This song still makes me cry.
Thereâs actually a really cool live performance in youtube with Shannon !!
Right on, Slash' s guitar is spiritual.!! Not just his solos, the entire songs. Being a guitar player myself...I was just totally blown away just watching him plain go off on that thing for 2 straight hours ... non stop when I saw them live.
Guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Gus G, etc etc etc. Would blow Slash outta the water, technically speaking. NO doubt. What makes Slash GREAT in my eyes however, is when he plays. You can FEEL IT in your soul. He conveys so MUCH emotion in his playing. Tough thing to do. Being a teen myself in the 80's, I heard the stories of Slash being so drunk(or maybe high) at concerts, he could barely stand. BUT, he NEVER missed a chord. Even while throwing up. Now THAT is talent! LOL. GREAT reaction. Keep it up Brad & Lex! \m/
The ending has always reminded me of a mosquito flying around my head.
Nobody stretches theyâre voice out like him
**Maynard from TOOL, enters the chat**
@@2Quietus *he doesnt, Axl can go 6 octaves*
@@blue-tr4zk That'd be great if we were talking Octaves. Try to keep up, Mr. Pedantic.
Actually thatâs not all Axl Rose Shannon moon from the group Blind Melon RIP did the backing vocals for that song
Shannon Hoon didn't sing the baritone notes. That was Axl.
I love how she was grooving along bobbing her head axle has a unique voice guns is definitely Rock and roll Hall of Fame.
Lex beginning to smile on the solo is all of us đ
New to checking ya'll out. Lex's smile popping up when Slash solos is why I now a few videos in to this channel.
Guys watch don't cry alt lyrics live from prague, there's a clip around youtube with about 1:30 minutes that shows Axl's talent live. It's a rare performance of the alternative lyrics to this song
If u can do The Music Video. Unfortunately u miss a bunch by doing the lyric video. Slash solo, Axl harmonizing with Shannon Hoon fr Blind Melon. Most important it helps understand the song better. â€ïžđđŻ
I feel the video can take away from listening to the lyrics, but slashes solo part in the desert was cool.
This is the first song ever written by Gn'R. The second vocals are from the singer of Blind Melon.
I love how you visualize the music as other senses. Colors, fabrics, nature, etc.
Also, Slash is the GOAT
When it comes to: Learning my people with good big hearts â„ïž be limitless. Donât limited your life or Knowledge. It doesnât matter what color you are: Mexican, white, black, Chinese. Etc. be limitless
One of my favorite ballads.
Love from Sweden
2:45 I love how Slash (assuming that's his blaring guitar) is announcing mid-chorus that he's liighting this joint up with his solo next!
And Slash, while maybe not the most technically proficient of all guitar greats, has exquisite note selection, which is a rare trait in guitar players.
I love GNR. Had most of their albums on cassette but listening to this track now, the first half of the song sounds like a rock and roll boy band. When this came out though there weren't many boy bands.
You missed the video where slash crashes his car off of a cliff and stands on the edge smoking a cigarette playing a solo
Great ear. Axl almost always dubbed his own voice
There are two more versions of this song. The original unpolished demo and the alt lyrics version on Use Your illusion 2. They are all awesome.
Locomotive, Pretty Tied Up, Estranged, You Could Be Mine, Mr Brownstone, Nightrain...
This is the MTV Generation! The music video said more than the lyrics! To me this song was about his struggle with addictions and his rebirth! (Recovery)
This is a perfect song to just vibe to.
From 1987 to 1995 Guns N Roses were in my opinion the greatest band working.
The top notes are sung by Shannon Hoon of Blind Mellon. Check out a song called Mouth full of Cavities.
Axl Rose was a great lead singer, but the true musical genius is singing backup on this song. RIP Shannon.
This song also included Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon Singing.
Shoutout to Shannon Hoon who was from the same town in Indiana that Axl was from and helped with backing tracks on this album. He would go on to form Blind Melon and put out one of the best albums(self titled) of the 90's imho November Rain and Estranged are two greats from Illusions ll RIP Shannon
The bass guitar in this song is beautiful. The bass guitar gives such a dark vibe.
Lex, I noticed back then that GnR was one of the bands that incorporated a lot of duel vocals singing one octave above the other simultaneously to give that layered sound. Axel did that a lot.
That second voice you're hearing is Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon. He also sang as a guest on this song. Great song and reaction.
some of the layered axl vocals on this one are making me hear his influence on marilyn manson. not sure if that's true, but never realized the similar tone before.
Lex knows slash play rather than being super technical with fancy licks, has more of a feel style, very melodic, with notes that evoke emotion from the heart instead of wonder the mind. He reminds me of David Gilmore, or Santana, very feel like with tasty melodies.
I sing this song to my daughter when she's upset about bed time. I carry her into bed and then stroke her head and sing this softly. I love it.
The song lyrics came from a episode in Axl's life. He'd had a crush on a woman that Izzy, the other guitarist had dated for a while and she became single so Axl asked if she'd be with him; She turned him down and he started to cry and she said "Don't cry" and that is the basis of the song's lyrics and feel.
"Estranged" GnR my favorite
I gather we're doing the rest of the trilogy first, butâŠ
Early vote for "Civil War" (And "Pretty Tied Up", but that's just for fun".)
czcams.com/video/_AOaq8Pc7Kw/video.html civil war by Brad and lex
@@mm37too Literally only NINE days ago and I even commented. My brain is leaking. Sigh. (Thanks, though.)
Axl's head voice & chest voice pretty much sound like two completely separate individuals singing? I hear the layering of his voice on many tracks like this one, and often thought the same as Lex and I think you guys once again nailed the perfect analysis!
You are hearing Shannon Hoon
Such beautiful guitar in this đ” song and Axl's voice too.
You gotta do Blind Melon next. 'Tones of Home', 'Change', 'No Rain' in any particular order.
The video would have helped with the understanding. I haven't watched it in over 15 yrs, but I'm still picturing every moment. It sticks with you.
Lex got it with slashÂŽs guitar SoloÂŽs she really knows whats about Rock i love it
This is the very first song written for Guns N' Roses, by Izzy Stradlin and Axl Rose
Love this song. It still makes me sad every time I hear it.
Axl wasn't singing two vocal parts here. He had a childhood friend Shannon Hoon singing the high parts. Shannon was the lead singer of Blind Melon before his death. Their biggest hit was called No rain.
...also, Axl was a total diva, like, leaps and bounds above the rest in his youth. He has since grown up I've been told.
On just about every song they review Brad is like 'I have no idea what this song is about. Is it about cooking? Is it about tying my shoes? Maybe it's about digging a well???' Brad has no clue
Lex, on the other hand, can pick up on every nuance. Every change. Every meaning of any song. She is so on point!
Get it together Brad.
Guns N Roses "night train" is one of the best songs they made
Axl is showing off at the end , itâs all about Axl!
Oh yeah GnR Don't Cry
Slash is an amazing guitarist đ but 1 reason it might sound slightly different to usual, is that he down tunes all of his guitar notes by half a step
So the E string becomes a D sharp string etc
Very uncommon!!
But Slash also has a great understanding of what can and can't work, he even uses the Chromatic scales more often than most other guitarists, notes that can be considered risky or not suitable etc
Add his natural talent & ability... & u have 1 of the most complete guitar players of all time
Many guitarists might seem technically superior, and some are, but slash can play at the top end of technicality, while maintaining the emotion & feel of the music... The soul of the song remains
He never gets so technical he sounds robotic almost
1 last thing that Slash does & sets him apart..
Half step bends!
It's subtle but if u remove it he would sound far more like other guitarists.
We all hear his big obvious full note bends đ but he bends many notes just a little, even some of the faster notes get a slight string bend...
I can't say I know of any other great who implements this the way slash has
Anyway
Watched sooo many of ur reactions over the last week or 2
Enjoy u pair x
