It's amazing that I find out about this problem with the battery charger by searching all over the web and arriving here...what's wrong with Kohler!! Both my father and I have experienced battery explosions with our Kohler generators. We replaced the batteries believing that we had not maintained them or some other reason. Thank you for the great video and a heads up that it's a problem that Kohler knows about. Sure enough, when I called Kohler directly and mention part GM95500, they said all labor and parts are covered and just call a Kohler service rep!!!

Got a diode kit on the way, thanks to this post. Symptoms on my RESA20 exactly match what was shown, and as suggested, Kohler is sending it at no charge.
Really bugs me that the local Kohler dealer diagnosed the issue over the phone, and wants to install a diode kit for $110 plus $200 labor (that's to install a replacement battery too). Something tells me that the dealer knows all about the fix, and sees an opportunity for an easy hundred dollar profit...

So we have a battery that is over charging also. The technician said he need to put in a new diod but you didnt do that right?? You just put in the kit? You just call Kohler with the issues and they covered the part cost?? I have a 20RESAL also.

@@JacobAHull-nx6rx - the kit includes the diode... it is definitely required AFAIK.

I wish I found your video BEFORE I did this harness installation since your video is much clearer than the instructions that came with the GM95500 kit.

Is their any way to test the controller is in good operation completely off of the machine?

I just inherited a 20kw RESL Kohler standby that ran great at its previous home. I unhooked it from that home and brought it to my house. I didn’t know to keep the maintainer plugged in to keep the battery charged till I could get it installed. The DC controller lost its internal memory and now that I have a charged battery it won’t start or even try to crank. It shows a “NO EC” code. I was told by a service tech that the controller is out dated and I have to have a new controller installed $1800. Can site tech be connected to my controller and programmed to make it run again?

Sir, what software did you configure your generator?

    Hello,
I have a 20RESAL that is charging to high. So I dont need to replace the diod like the technician said? I can just put the harness kit in?? Can home owners get the firmware updates to download?? Thanks is advance!!

I have the same model Kohler but my battery charging is only showing 12 volts. It flickers back and forth from 11.9 to 12 volts. Is this normal? We are currently in an extended power outage. Will my battery eventually die (and generator shut down)?

  • @lisaloprestodehart1606

Any idea why I have lockdown rotor shutdown? Or things I can do?

I got the same unit for my new house but it won't start and it says Battery CoCr low warning. They ask me to provide the serial number and see if the unit is still under warranty covered. Could you please tell me where can I find the serial number for the unit?

Alicia Lehoux there is a data sticker either right on top by the controller or at the (right) end in the battery compartment - which is accessed by removing the two screws - depending on the age and model of the unit.

Hello there thanks for this video. Helped me with battery issue.
Now I’m having a locked rotor, shutdown error.
Already changed the controller to new RDC2 Gen4 mfg date 5/20/2020 (GM92089)with new wire adapter (GM95104) , same problem.
What else can it be? Was told my 2012 20RESA s/n SGM322FVB, does not have a mag pickup (speed sensor).
What should I look at next? Maybe need new system?
    Thanks for your help.

did you happen to figure out the issue. We are also having the same problem.

@@sarahsalley3215 Hello Sarah. I had such a hard time finding a tech in my area that could help me. 4 different companies, 5 techs each saying something different or did not know how to work on Kohler generators. One said he will be back and never heard from again. So after dumping about 2k in parts and diagnostic fees I decided to throw out the baby with the bath water sort of speak.
Trashed the Kohler unit and went with a brand new Generac 24kw generator; apparently that’s the only brand companies by me know how to service and work on. Spending another 10k with new unit and install, but now I have a working generator and ready for this crazy NJ weather. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. HaHa.

Good luck with Kohler these days. I have called and emailed and they won't help me. They say they will but then never do anything. My batteries keep exploding. I guess I need to threaten a lawsuit to get their attention.

sir also tell me which firmware is good for 12Res

    • @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254
      @elitepowerenergycorporatio3254  Před 5 lety

Muneeb UR Rehman the 12RES does not need a firmware update as it has a ADC2100 controller. If you have a 12kW RESV then you might need an upgrade, depending on certain factors.
We cannot send you firmware as you need Kohler Site Tech to install and update the firmware on your unit. You would have to contact your local dealer to have that work performed to ensure all parameters are set correctly for proper operation.

That is a bridge rectifier not a relay aside from that good video

Egsa Tech agreed. It was stated in laymen’s terms (vague similarities) for the average person for easy understanding but you are correct. Appreciate the feedback.
