New Moon and Solar Eclipse! | STEM for Kids

Welcome back to our channel kSmart kids! Today we will be learning about New Moon and Solar Eclipse!
The New Moon is one of the phases of the moon! As the Moon orbits, or circles, around the Earth, the moon phases change! The moon is between the Earth and the sun! As the moon continues to orbit Earth , we see less and less of the sun’s reflection on the moon! The New Moon is when we can’t see the lit up side of the moon anymore! The visibility of the moon can reach as low as one percent! This is why we call the New Moon the Dark Moon! Some people consider the New Moon as the opposite of a full moon! A full moon is when the Moon’s entire sunlit side is visible on Earth!
A New Moon can also affect the Earth! There is a very high chance for rain and storms on the days after a New Moon. There is a chance of high and low tides. These tides are known as spring tides! Some people even believe that the New Moon is good for fishing! Because of the bigger tides, the fish are more active for fishing!
New moons are so cool! But unfortunately, new moons usually can’t be seen. A new moon can only be seen during a solar eclipse. A solar eclipse is when the the new moon appears smaller so the sun’s light appears around the moon! This is called the Ring of Fire or the Ring of Light! How cool!
