I think Zaouli is the most impressive dance in the world and one of the most complex ones too because the dancer actually sets the pace of the musicians and not the other way
Ive heard this several times before, but when you start to recognise the beats then it kinda falls apart.
Not less impressive in any way. But it is what it is.
If you know the track then youre not in control.. You just respond
@@martinwinther6013 You're right, I love the communication between the dancer and musician and how they just react to each other, the hand signals work very well too
@@pepemapache It is the core of REAL music and REAL dance. The interaction.
You let the rythm take over.
And nomatter where it comes from and where it goes to(is it the music that run the dance, or dance that run the music) - Then its just one of the most impressive styles around.
Its up there with jitterbug, breakdance, ballet and that cossack soldiers dance.
Jawdropping skills..
I'm really happy to see the children dance. It means the culture and tradition will continue into many generations!

By watching this video I cannot explain it why, but I got teary eyes!!! It's so beautiful watching only a mere fraction of African culture that I admire all the participants display in action and for the lack of better words... they are freaking amazing!!!
I did too for some odd reason
Beautiful dances and the children practicing when time comes. Greetings from Mexico.
Antonio Rangel all way from my country Ivory Coast 🇨🇮
Absolutely Incredible!
Thank you Ancestors for bringing me in contact with this, and thank you CZcams for being the technology that serves this.....I am so grateful for this, I danced alongside, (Not as good), but I connected with my ancestors and the Great African Culture that will Save the World once again, if the world lets it! Oh Hail Mama Africa, you have suffered, you have been raped, plundered, used and abused, yet you retain you dignity in your Culture, which is what unites Afrika! We are Wan (One), Wake up Afrika, The World Awaits You Return!
All we need is just our space back on this earth
Thank you so much beloved you overstand

The dancing is awesome but let's give some love for the musicians!
Very true. If you focus on the music, particularly the percussive part of it, and the leg movements, they are very closely connected. I assume the musicians are taking their lead from the dancer, but the reaction time to change their playing to match, is just about zero. I guess they are following well established patterns, and it isn't quite Beethoven's 5th, but even so....
@@alexanderSydneyOz Yeah, like in most Afrian Dances there is a solid base of percusive patterns and moves that go along and are shared my most dancers/musicians then they take that base and are able to switch it up on the fly because they all know it aswell as special patterns only a group of musicans and a dancer know.
These sort of masked dances are very endemic of central and western Africa with each region having it's own twist. The Ivoirian Gouro Might be the most technically impressive though.
But if you're interested here is the version from my country, Gabon
czcams.com/video/n1kh502sGxA/video.html&ab_channel=MADARAKYUBI
Very close to what you would see in Cameroon, Congo or Angola (obviously, as they're basically the same ethnic groups as us) These things used to scare the shit our of me and they'd sometimes beat up nosy teens haha
@@otalaedwin thanks! I will watch your link!
Fascinated by and obsessed with the mysterious power of this authentic African dance!
Authentically from the 1950's.....
All wrong
THis is an amazing evidence of ancient african culture !!! This is fantastic, keep it real !
This is not really ancient, in this form it started in the 1950s.
This exact dance may be from the 50s but the tradition has ancient roots. Many ethnic groups and tribes throughout the sub Tropical and Savanna regions of Africa from Senegambia all the way to Zimbabwe, have similar 'masquerades' and dances. They are tied to ancient African spirituality, cults and secret societies.
I loved seeing the different costumes. This was very beautiful and fascinating all at ones.
Michael Jackson, James Brown, Chicago Footwork, DC beat the feet dancing and Tap all derived from this style of dance!
No it did not.
Love mama afrika❤❤❤❤morroco amazigh
Wish I could see this live 😍😍😍
Minenhle Ntuli if you come to Côte-d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 west Africa it’s mask zahouli

Jeez sphe. You see what i was saying on Facebook. You're even here in zaouli videos!! I'd like to watch it live too. Let's get tickets to Ivory Coast then.

I love this I'm proud to be African American.
I dedicate this to my ancestors
So you were born in Africa then??? Otherwise you would be an AMERICAN!
Jessie Jackson started the whole "African American" crap. Aren't we all from Africa originally?

If you want a good dancer, come to Afrika,if you want athletes come to Afrika, best musicians in the world are Afrikans.we are the best
This is art from the heart,so genuine and unafected of the modern art narcissism! I prefer to see thess performance than to see the western world most famous artist performing.Love from Sweden
It is art but also ritual
@@TheOneanjel It was invented in the 1950's
Awesome Dance😍Greeting from 🙏❤️🇸🇪
God bless africa and its people. Theyre culture is something beyond all the worlds comprehensions.
Amazing big up Ivory Coast
Beautiful. INTENSE. and NO TWERKS. Now that in and of itself is HAPPY DANCE FOR ALL 🎉😗
Grew up in Malawi and this brings back memories...FYI as a kid some we're scary AF 🤣
Please, is this Malawi? This performance is like our Igala masquerade here in Nigeria
@Afro Warrior I was too little back then, we would go watch when I visited my grandparents in the village. I do remember being scared but curious at the same time.
@@unitedigalakingdomtv8432
The video isn't Malawi. But it has shown me how all Africans have the same roots. Would love to learn more about the origins dances
Search for ”Malawi Gule wamkulu”

Wonderful to see these original African folk dances that have been handed down for thousands of years, but now being commercialized and the dancers being Harrassed and made to look Foolish should not be allowed.

I love there country
WOW such amazing dancing 👏 wish I knew what it all meant 🤔 very interesting and one way to keep fit 😁
"Have you forgotten that once we were brought here, we were robbed of our name, robbed of our language. We lost our religion, our culture, our god ... and many of us, by the way we act, we even lost our minds."
Magnifique 😍😍😍
These dancers I'm borderline obsessed with watching 😻👍🏆
The dancers were amazing!! However I want to give it up for the drummers. They kept these rhythms up without messing up. The dancers are able to predict the music and move accordingly without a belief that the drummer could mess up. That shows how much they work together!
Question: What are they celebrating?
I guess it’s a five and take sometimes it seems the dancer moves to the rhythm of the drummers, sometimes it seems the drummers change the beat to what the dancer is doing.
I m from ivoiry coast and it is a local dance from ethnic group "gouro " .They usualy playing to increase harvest.
The drummers beat to the dancers moves typically. They reherse certain cues. It's a show not happenstance.
The drummers follow the dancer.

I can't stop watching. These dances must be telling a story I know when they are doing this dance it is not the man anymore he has become something else. I wish I had the knowledge and ability to read what the dance is saying.
