In that same game where Len Hutton played 847 balls, two other players played 400+ bowls - Maurice Leyland (438) and Joe Hardstaff (400)
Len Hutton scored the highest ever Test score at the time of 364 during this innings. A record that stood for 20 years. I have a Len Hutton Autograph (the name of the bat is Autograph, it's not signed) made by Slazenger that was made in 1950. Put side to side by today's bats it looks like a chopstick, I would say literally half the thickness of the Kookaburra Beast that I play with. when put side by side.
It seemed like the length of the challenge changed the way you played. You left a lot outside off stump, far more than you usually seem to. You also seemed a lot more comfortable than previous batting exploits. All that training must be helping! I'm sad you didn't raise the bat at 100, though.
EDIT: "Just an absolute lapse in concentration!"
Did you get a 40 min break for lunch, a 20 min break for tea, and a teammate to talk to? Did the bowlers get tired?
No, so don't be so hard on yourself, goddammit!
haha thanks matey!! was great fun looking back, dont think i'll do it again in a hurry. am certainly feeling more confident/comfortable with that bat at the moment
Never thought there'd be a day where I willingly watched somebody face 800+ deliveries in a single video but hey here we are
Proper skill to be a good test batsmen, to stay focused every ball against top class batters as well as being under pressure….. that’s why I love watching tests over t20
Querying whether this counts as Dan self harming or not. Can see the gradual descent into madness. You're some man Dan!
Hell of an effort Dan mate. Both from a mental and physical stand point. Great video and well survived hehe.
Len Hutton! Really enjoyed this Dan, was great to have some longer form content and hear more of your voice and sense of humour!
Len Hutton.Great patience and perseverance mate.Good job.As a player I know how physically tough this is.Well done
Len Hutton.
Absolute monster effort! I'm currently in bed with a torn calf. Season might be over for me and I'm gutted. Happy to bowl 847 balls in a session if it means I'm bowling again :P
Len Hutton. Great work Dan, not easy doing that. Especially with a game in the evening too!
LEN HUTTON! great work dan
That thumbnail is so well made good stuff I am going to watch the vid soon I already know it’s going to be a banger
Edit: I watched the whole thing as expected it was a banger only Dan can make a 847 ball innings video seem interesting and ''Len Hutton" I think that's the spelling
Len Hutton! Supreme effort Dan... all credit to you!
I faced about 140 odd deliveries for about 40 odd a year or 2 back. couple games later we versed the top team and i made 20 runs not out off 120 deliveries.. won the game though. It does help we play 2 days of 80 overs, i usually open. Definitely have to be concentrated for that long though.
140 is loads for a club cricketer, proper knock that! And congrats on the win
2:05 try putting more emphasis on doing it on the front foot rather than coming with both cuz if u miss it and it’s not bowled you’ll get stumped. Just some small advice!
I'd like DRS on a few of those! Looked like it should've been more like 400/15
Loool bro you probably got out like 20 times need to do this without getting out
@@fahimarizwan3370 Yh but what’s the point of doing the challenge and getting out 20 times anyone could do the challenge he done, just stay in the nets long enough
1930s, they definitely used their pad a lot more, both outside leg and outside off! Leg spinners’ pitch would be outside leg stump on practically every ball. Otherwise a good video.
len hutton (cant believe you did this dan the amount of guts to do this wow)
Dan is just like me when I bat talk about past cricket and commentary on my own batting
Len Hutton
Should've found similar kit, they probably wore heavier clothing and the conditions would've been certainly different then playing indoors, do it in an outside net next time.
Can certainly try, I’d need to find a very helpful person to feed a machine though
it was post bodyline by nearly 10 years Danny boy!
u look like Philliph Hughes, Australian cricketer
len hutton
Did you say you went to the batting lab in Salisbury
Btw that is my home town I’ve gone to the batting lab there
Len Hutton 👍
len hutton = danny boi!
best part after batting this long is england won by an innings and almost 600 runs
Did Pujara collab with you on this one?
Video suggestion: Order a cricket kit from Pakistan, and review it.
Bring back hutton to train England how to play spin😂
glenn hutton
Video suggestion : Buy a kit from pakistan and review it and then give it to someone
The great don did play bowled 2 overs didnt bat due to injury
@@ourCRiCKET_ Hey mate any chance your coming down to Sydney in your winter our summer
Have you ever played indoor cricket before could get you a game down here
from commentary on the match the England captain waited to declare until after he knew Bradman wasn't fit to bat
😮
bro literally got out 1:30 seconds in
Nah it just narrowly missed the stumps. Just an optical illusion set by the angle of the camera.
len ******
I did not envy you for this

I'm more impressed that he had enough balls to afford this challenge. Literally.
Would have used the same ones no? Not going to leave 800 odd balls in the net behind you 😂
