    The tights ?..I LOVE colored tights, but I was in my early 20's in the 80's & wore colored nylons often. I wore white, pink, blue, purple, gray & black (I worked in advertising & was able to dress more "creatively" than other career women I knew). I did wear hats, felt in the winter & lighter weights in the summer, but was in the minority - I still wear the same hats - the right hat never goes out of style. Watching The Prince of Wales fashion evolve from hits-n-misses to near perfection has been fun (as was watching Princess Diana's style evolve). Thanx!

    As a child, in from Easter I would wear a straw hat and white buckskin closed toe sandals and after our September holiday the hats would be felt velour and the shoes dark brown Mary janes. I loved my weekend hats..

    Personally black and navy coloured tights remind me of school uniforms when I wear them on myself but I am less judgemental when I see them on others. I am also a bit picky when it comes to the fish net consistency hat veils and would love to see tule or lace veiling done in a modern way. I absolutely adore Catherine's alpaca fur hat.

    Would you do a Catherine video in which you could maybe compare outfits in which she has reworn a hat (perhaps even with different hair styles as well?), or outfits she has reworn with different hairdos and hats and tell us in which ones you think the hat complimented the outfits better, which ones were better styled just in general. Did I explain this well enough lol? English isnt my first language lol.

    This has been so very educational! I wish hat wearing was more popular in America. I wear girly hats is Spring, Summer and part of Autumn because my hair is thinning somewhat and just a few minutes in the sun causes problems. I'm trying to find more styles of hats for winter because I HATE boggins with a passion. Yes, even in Winter, I have the same problem. But this vid gives me hope and inspiration! Thank you so much!

    I agree with you about Black tights especially in summer.

  • @dottiewi661
    @dottiewi661 Před 9 měsíci +5

    In terms of tights, I prefer skincoloured tights/stockings in summer/on warmer spring and autumn days and othercoloured tights on colder days and in winter, as I always feel „barelegged“ in skincoloured tights. Especially in winter, I also feel that shiny skincoloured tights don‘t match the sometimes more heavily textured fabrics of winter skirts and dresses (though, in period dramas, we see women with thick coats and thin skincoloured tights, and I am sure, that is accurate, it‘s just me). Then I wear matte opaque tights or thermotights, because those are warmer. For example: green wool coat, black skirt and green opaque tights of a fine cotton (neither shiny nor chunky). I think, black tights can be useful, even in summer, as I think, some black skirts don‘t really feel right with skincoloured tights or if one feels more Rock‘n‘Roll or Gothic-style. I can‘t comment on the school uniform aspect of black tights, because we didn‘t wear one. I tend to be quite nitpicky with my own outfits, though not from a viewpoint of high fashion. And I think, one should always feel comfortable with one‘s clothes, regardless of other people‘s opinions. 😊

      I’m also a tad concerned that since Her Majesty’s passing a few bare legs have been making an appearance. I so hope not as it think it’s so tacky! So Hollywood. Stockings and hats complete an outfit and compliment the occasion you’re representing.m. Just my opinion. I know I’m old fashioned but I do prefer a nice dress over suits . 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

    I do hate black thight but love light grey or blue thick thighs for winter because I wear skirts and dresses even in winter. I had a hat with a veil similar to the one you showed but only as long as covering my forehead (English is my second language. I hope it is understandable). I loved this hat. It was a pillbox hat with a big bow at the back from I assumed the 80s. After some years I cut away the bow and veil and recently added a true Pan Am pin. That gives it a touch of flight attendant. I am not a fan of the tilted-into-the-face hats. I adore the hallow hats more.

    That was an interesting look at how different hats and outfits work, or don't work, together.
    Perhaps it's because I wear glasses, and anything forward on my face gets too busy in a hurry, but I think that anything off the face looks better than the things that look glued to the forehead. The lines of a forehead hat or a side of the head always look unnatural and off-balance to me.
    A little asymmetry is fine, preventing the look from being too severe, but wildly off-balance just never works for me.

    Hi, This was such a good time. As a lover of hats I loved every second of this.
    Now to the "poor-me" segment. I live such a small life (medical issues for a very long time, very boring story, trust me on this). When I leave my house twice a week, I already wear my practice/training clothes, to be ready if my ride is late. We have a system that lets people with disabilities and/or illnesses and can't use public transports, have private rides in equipped cars instead. So the only times I go anywhere I'm in practice clothes both ways. I don't know how to fit a few hats into that equation. Just making hats for the fun of it, seems a bit to frivolous to me so I'm procrastinating, and get as much theoretical hat making onboard until the time I say "Fluff it, I'm making hats just for the fun of it". I'm working on it.
    Anyhow. Thank you for the video. As I already said I love it. Yours, Ann

      I used to go to horse races and polo, so I amassed a beautiful collection of hats and fascinators. I haven't been in a while...so I'm thinking of throwing a very small "hat party" at a winery this autumn. I plan to have my friends come to my house a month in advance to choose one of my hats (if they wish) to wear that day. Why don't you organize a tea, or a breakfast, and ask the guests to wear their favorite perchers? Sometimes, we HAVE to create the opportunities we wish we had!

      @@ByIlonaMillineryHI, Thank you for your reply. My country don't have the hat tradition of other places. We have no horsraces or weddings where you traditionally wear a hat. It just doesn't exist. The beanie on the other hand, have a steady place in our culture. If nothing else, for if you don't wear them you're going to get frost bite on your ears, and you'd loose body heat through your scull. I don't know how many I knitted back in the day when I used to knit. It was something everyone at school used to do during the breaks and at home. Hats socks and heavy sweaters. Those I've done almost ad nauseam, back in pre-history, aka early 1980's.
      I do very much appreciate your answer, and I'm very grateful for you coming to my aid. I'm hoping that I at some point will get over myself and just make hats for the joy of making, and maybe even wearing hats. Your idea of a hat party sound so wonderful, and I hope that you and your friends have a great time. With gratitude, Ann

      @annlidslot8212 Ann, I love your thoughtful answer and I'm sending you love and encouragement. Yes, make the hats just for the joy of creating them, why not? And then gather them and make a little corner display just to admire them. I keep houseplants that nobody but me sees. How would making, caring, and lovingly gazing at hats be any different? It isn't. Do it! Happiness is sometimes hiding just in front of our eyes.

      @@irairod5160Hi, Thank you so much for the kind words, and your suggestion. Something like what you mentioned might be what I'm procrastination over I think. I just have to get over the frivolity threshold of such self indulgency. I know. I'm suffering from "good girl-itis", I know. It's a very common condition among females, at least over a certain age, I believe. It's not discussed in litteratur and science enough, in my opinion. I will get over myself at some point and just do it.
      Your collection of plants sound absolutely lovely. It must give you such a feeling of joy. An indoor secret garden. Yours, Ann

    I love black tights with fall/winter clothes, both for the look and the warmth they provide. For warmer Spring/summer weather skin-coloured tights are my choice. The thing I loathe most is the no-tights/stockings legs in high-heeled strappy shoes with shorter dresses or skirts. The thought of my bare feet in shoes such as those is just too jarring. I'm from the generation that considered dressing like that to be vulgar not trendy or edgy.

    My pet peeve is disc hats that are worn at such a steep angle - almost vertical, it seems - that it doesn't cover the head and the trim is placed both on top AND under the hat. At that point, what is the point of wearing the hat other than entertaining people waiting to see the whole thing fall apart.

    • @ByIlonaMillinery
      @ByIlonaMillinery  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hi Callie, I know exactly what you mean. I think that fashion stemmed from milliners experimenting with how far they could push hat shapes into new and unexplored territories - this is a key part of Philip Treacy's design philosophy. Sometimes the results are nice and interesting, but sometimes they do go too far! 😅
