The term soccer actually comes from England. It's an abbreviation of AsSOCiation Football as opposed to Rugby Football which was known as Rugger. Rugger and Soccer were the descriptions used to describe the two sports. Until the 60s and 70s soccer was still commonly used in Britain and I remember many books and magazines in the school library using soccer. A lot of people in the UK don't know this as it's fallen out of use and think it is an Americanism.

Maybe this happens maybe it doesn't. But what is true right now is the sports are not even close. Look at the average salaries. NHL players make way more money. And that isn't changing soon because the MLS is a second tier league. The best players play elsewhere. The best hockey players in the world play in the NHL. Also soccer is a really boring and bad game to watch. If you have to convince me it's interesting it's not interesting.

This years Stanley cup final tv ratings decline from last year and with the whole balley sports bankruptcy nhl teams will sure be worried about salary caps now that they’re not recieving those regional tv deal paychecks. mls dodged a bullet and are looking at the future sports viewing in streaming with no blackouts, something nhl are notorious with.
