  • Unsaturated polyester resin curing is a process to make thermoset composites from polyester.

Watch this educational 3D video-animation and see how the unsaturated polyester resin curing process works, nicely illustrated with some everyday life examples of polyester thermoset composites.
Unsaturated polyester resin can be cured with the help of organic peroxides, such as MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide). Organic peroxides initiate the polyester curing reaction and are thus an essential ingredient to make polyester thermoset composites. The same curing process is also used to make gelcoats based on polyester resin. Applications of unsaturated polyester resin composites include: polyester boats, truck panels, GRP pipes, kitchen tops, trays and many more.
Nouryon is the leading supplier of curing agents for the unsaturated polyester resin composite industry. We are home to the leading brand of Butanox®, which is the trade name for the highest quality MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) in the market.

This is awesome stuff! Nice to see what happens when I work with poly on me skiff.

But how to recycle those materials if wasted? How to open this molecular structure? Is this polyester production one part of global environment pollution, one of big global problems of our time? But anyway, thanks for clear explanation in molecular level.

Does the polyester free radical bonds directly to another polyester molecule without any styrene bridges?
