Motorcycle exhaust sounds are unique, depending on the diameter, manufacturer, and material used to make the baffles. The pitch of the exhaust sound is a personal preference for most and can be altered as removable modification can be made to your motorcycle.
Most motorcycle owners would agree that the thrill of hearing your engine roar is half of the experience. But the type of exhaust and several other factors determine your modifications. There are also legal restrictions and regulations that are important to know while maintaining the sound quality of your motorcycle.
Even when a vehicle is well-made by the manufacturer, there may still be room for some improvements. This is especially true when it comes to horsepower and torque. Your vehicle’s manufacturer may have done a great job creating a safe and functional vehicle, but that doesn’t necessarily mean full optimization of the exhaust system. Installing custom exhaust systems is something that many vehicle owners end up doing.
An aftermarket exhaust system can unleash the full power of your engine. It can provide a quicker, more efficient route for the exhaust gases in your engine to escape, allowing the engine to breathe a bit easier. This means that more fuel and air can be burned within the engine and in the process, more power can be created. All in all, an aftermarket performance exhaust system can make for a system that allows the engine to perform at its peak. A simple mod. as discussed in this video MAY NOT provide as significant of an increase to the bottom line power as a full after market exhaust, it also avoids the high cost and re-fueling that may be required as well!
The main reason to consider an aftermarket exhaust system is this noteworthy improvement in power and performance. Another benefit of an aftermarket performance system is the deepening of the growl your acceleration makes. This more aggressive exhaust note is preferred by many vehicle enthusiasts, especially those who prize their vehicle for its horsepower and want an acceleration sound that can match it. This mod may not give you more power, but you will get that grunt which is sorely missing on the 310.

Wow, I love it! I'm in Alaska and I bought a BMW 310 gs in Cali, Colombia several weeks ago, brand new. Flying down in a few days, then I can get to the dealer and pick it up. I'm taking my riding gear and some initial upgrades to add to the bike, but I'll have to wait on the big stuff that I really want. Like an exhaust, more off road capable tires, Rally Raid suspension upgrades and spoke wheels. I'm bringing down pretty much everything else, I wanted.

I went a step further and took a 51 mm hole saw and drilled around the weld of the small outlet pipe. I then removed the whole db killer assembly pipe. It took a pipe wrench and some wrestling to get it out. Now it has a deap crisp sound like a mx bike but not as loud. Bike does not pop on decel or run lean, even with BMC high flow filter. It beats my friend's standard g 310 in race.

@@James356-b1m remove shiny steal cover on end of pipe and simply take whole saw and drill around decibel killer circumference. This will loosen the entire pipe that you want to remove. Pull it out by some force. It is pressed in so just pull while wiggling it, it will come.

Think I'll try this, but also build a plate I can bolt over the holes to cover them up, in case I don't like it, or need to bring it in for warranty work without them figuring out I modified it.

@@Ananthurnath sorry can't tell. It's a bit louder than stock. Would def still be legal on South african roads. I drilled 6 , 12 mm holes in mine. Start by drilling 3 holes and increase if you want more sound. I run a BMC high flow filter in mine too. My efi handles it well and bike pulls strong with no popping or backfiring.

@@James356-b1m at first I did ,yes, but the bike had an unpleasant sound as the air moved past the holes. I did not like the sound so I removed the whole db killer pipe. It bypasses the whole CAT system and gets air out faster. Try bmc high flow filter with your modded pipe. The bike runs much better. Here in South Africa we worry more about being murdered than pollution and noisy pipes so check your laws before you mod it.
@@happyman8488 yeah it's not totally legal but I really wanted to ride without db killer even I have to pay the fine. last question. brother- Can we do welding the db killer back to the exhaust again..? or once we take out its done.?
I have one but and I want to try this but I’m afraid of losing the guaranty, does this affect the guaranty?

I do it during my 3 years warranty and keep warranty no problemas in BMW!
Its like you install a free flow pipe instead and am worried about the compression inside the cylinder, does it varie and does it affects the engine life??
It is a bit like that yes, but not nearly as free flowing as a true exhaust. Additionally we did not adjust intake, and so to my understanding the actual fuel mapping change is small, or at least small enough for the stock ECU to map it.
Long story short I do not get much if any popping on deaccel

From our experiences this doesnt hurt it at all. However not all shops will like it, like at all. So you might have issues for warranty work around the exhaust parts especially. Point being do any mods to your bike fulling expecting it to void your warranty.

We have sold them both but I kept mine until about a month ago. No problems ever coming from this. I’d do it again!

Depends on what you are looking for, but, the new ones (2021+) appear to have addressed my biggest gripe which is the clutch. Suspension is not up to the task if you push it at all, but honestly get it and rip it brother

Well I mean i've broken a fair bit of shit off from dropper her, but it still fires right up. My clutch squeals a bit and this seems to be fairy common. The blue bike is like its new off the showroom floor, but then its barely ridden.

I just bought a G310R and I really wanna change my exhaust but none of those in the market r great enought... If i do this trick i'll have issues only with the exhaust or the entire bike? i'm pretty confident this is the best we can get with that engine.
You should'nt have issues with anything, and I do not get anything other then very minor backfiring when cold.
How are the Bikes on long trips? Looking at the 310GS, but may go with the 750 GS.
I have a 310 GS and i'd recommend getting the 750 if you are going to do a lot of highway.
So we (this is stuttering mechanic “goat”) made these bikes work well on the open road. We just came back over hwy 90 (mountains) pulling 75-80 mph with no problems. Just cannot be afraid to toss a little money at. That being said, total bike investment is still around $8000ish. For a bike that can do single track as well as pull mountain passes at 80mph
What size bit for final hole?

Hi I tried this and while drilling 4th hole my drill bit broke and it's in the silencer does this do any harm to engine or other parts what to do now just leave it or remove it pls suggest
Remove the pipe get the residues out and instal it back

Stock sounded better, drilled example sounded like a lawnmower.
Sounds better on the bike for sure, but again wasn't done necessarily just for the sound...
I highly recommend that you do not do it, if you don’t like the sound. No need to spread hate
