Cumberbatch is a good modern interpretation of the character, but he bares only a slight resemblance to the character created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Ellie Norwood, Douglas Wilmer, and Jeremy Brett are a lot closer to ACD's Holmes...but they are all interpretations.

Henry cavil was Sherlock Holmes just one time in Enola Holmes but honestly I found him perfect to be Sherlock Holmes, like his features also matched with Sherlock.

The first on screen adaptation was of A Study in Scarlet, a British silent film from 1914, directed by George Pearson with James Bragington. It's actually lost though - only a few stills are known to exist now - one of many lost films victims of the war!
Maybe there's a cut out there somewhere, if only real life Sherlock was here to find it 😂

The second was the William Gillette film, Sherlock Holmes (1916) which was thought lost forever until it was found in the vault at the Cinematheque Francaise.

I've never seen such good Sherlock-Coverage than Hbomberguys Video,
even though the start is establishing-Context too-much (but that's easy to overcome with a small skip).

The irregulars are a spooky urban fantasy with a lovely Tim Burton vibe. I would like a season 2 it's fun and pulpy. I hope they make Watson less grumpy. That was the only thing that was really of. Give him a Mary (of it you want 2 be modern Martin) Morstan and give him back his charm.

Now I know that people are gonna disagree with me, but The Irregulars is actually my favorite adaptation of the Sherlock story. I just think that is a fresh take on the story that is comparable to Wandavision in it's portrayal of grief. It's very much Sherlock meets Supernatural meets Sweeney Todd.

Why does it feel like a very elaborate way to defend the car crash that is The Irregulars? Netflix barely ever goes wrong, but this was the exact reason, why some authors and their heirs try to block adaptations. Let's just admit it and move on.
