FE10 HM 0% growths chapter 3-4 (with commentary)

- This is chapter 3-4 of my FE10 HM 0% growths playthrough, commentated by Mekkah and me. It is completed in 4 turns. Ranulf gains 12 WEXP and ends the chapter at A +12 strike.
You'd think that with Ranulf using Olivi Grass on every player phase after turn 1, and spending much of that gauge by the end of the chapter, he'd be able to gain more strike WEXP. Unfortunately, this is just a preview to come of how challenging it is to train laguz strike rank when having to actively manage gauge, and especially under Ranulf's unfavorable circumstance of cat gauge + no Canto + failing to ORKO enemies.
This map can be done without Pass + Celerity Ranulf; the strategy is usually like Haar rescue dropping a transformed Ranulf over the first 2 turns, then being handed Ike on turn 3 by Titania or Oscar to drop up top.

I love how you get a massively straight upgrade in the form of Ulki and janaff 3 levels after :

-better gauge
-better bases

-higher starting level
-mariginally better growths

Ranulf gauge hurts me inside tbh
Its to a point where I genuinely didnt bother with his WEXP even though it would've helped because I just couldn't be bothered
special shoutouts btw to how low his actual con is - in PoR he can shove every mounted unit besides Haar and Geoffrey whereas here he only has 14 con but 34 weight. This leads to funnies such as not being able to shove Ulki but being able to rescue him
When a mounted unit has much higher weight than con, it makes sense, and captures the idea that they could let the other person ride on their mount, too.
But for armors and laguz, uh... I guess the armored unit lets the other person... share their armor? And the laguz has a pouch like a kangaroo?
I think the difference in shove utility is more due to a mechanics change; in PoR it's a WT vs WT comparison, whereas in RD it's con vs WT.
It’s only 1 extra gauge lost per battle/turn, really not that big a deal dude

For Ranulf to remain gauge-neutral after smoking olivi grass every turn he cannot engage more than 2 enemies over both PP and EP while other regular laguz races can face 3 enemies and be neutral. If 1 more enemy is engaged Ranulf loses 2 gauge compared to others' 1 gauge and this only gets worse the more enemies are fought.
Ranulf can fight up to 6 enemies from 30 gauge without untransforming and must then fight max 2 whereas others can fight up to 8 and can still fight max 4 on the next turn
If you think its not a big deal you've never really tried using laguz in RD

Funny enough, Chapter 5 in Shadow Dragon has 2 gates with 2 armors and yet you only have to seize the right one to win.

I remember Kyza's gauge starting at 18 not 17 but I could be easily wrong here. Not that the one point matters either. I do love them as a playable unit. I would discribe them as "worse Boyd." Does the same thing in combat really with similar bulk and offense but no 1-2 range and the hassle of a transformation gauge. If they are trained however they will get speed pretty darn fast allowing them to get good doubling tresholds in for a few chapters.

Ranulf is so painfully close to being a decent unit in FE10 but he really needs to eat grass every single turn in order to stay transformed and not die. At least Janaff and Ulki are good.

I was most certainly not sure Ranulf would get a Thumbnail at all being such a flawed "prepromote" but looking at the strat it seems like I stressed for nothing.
Radiant Dawn has so many anti-horse maps in it. I love it, if only because the horses rule the most of the franchise.

Is the lack of performing the converses for supports not inhibiting building towards A supports?
As far as I know, the conversations don't do anything. They don't even give you bonus support points to the next support level.

It's only English change, Japanese version don't use " they/them pronouns " since it barely even uses pronouns and calling someone by them/them in Japanese is literally not a thing lol
In the Original RD he's a feminine gay dude, simple as, FEH changed it to NB because lol English localizations
