  • How the “Woke” Movement is Undermining its own Goals and Unintentionally Pushing Society to the Right with Susan Neiman and Robert Siegel
Wokeism is fueled by the traditionally leftwing passion of standing with the oppressed and marginalized to address historic crimes. But this passion can conflict with ideas that have guided the left for more than 200 years: a commitment to universalism, a firm distinction between justice and power, and a belief in the possibility of progress. Unmoored from these ideas, the woke are undermining their own goals and drifting, unintentionally, towards the right. American Philosopher Susan Neiman, director of the Einstein Forum in Potsdam, Germany and Moment contributor Robert Siegel, former host of NPR’s All Things Considered, discuss Neiman’s latest book Left is Not Woke and clarify the dangerous confusion surrounding the word and the movement.

I read her book Left is Not Woke. I consider myself libertarian-right, just full disclosure. But it is a really good book, very deep and thought-provoking.

Her view of Netanyahu seems like a cartoon caricature. I doubt that he thinks we should be afraif of all strangers. Does anyone take that view?
