I'm really glad that there are still manufacturers like Hyundai or Toyota these days. They attach so much importance to building cars that we enthusiasts can actually drive - which are at least halfway affordable for the most part. Great and not to be taken for granted! I took my 2023 Elantra N to the track completely stock and it held up very well. I melted the PS4S tires after my fourth session and had a little heat soak on the brakes, but it was amazing. The limited slip makes this car amazing out of corners and it doesn't understeer. The auto rev matching makes it smooth. As a front-wheel drive car, I can't believe how good it is. Any capable driver can have a great driving experience in this car - and the exhaust sounds so good I let off the gas just to hear it sometimes. The only gripe I have is the wheel hop on launch. There is an easy fix for that, though. If they improve these cars, they will be wildly popular for people who want a daily driver/track car straight from factory. Why pay 10-15k more for a Civic Type-R?

    • @dw214
      @dw214 Před 5 měsíci +6

      Why?
      Many reasons why
FL5 looks better then the FK8 both interior and exterior and actually has presence on the road.
In my country they are in low quantity (rare) so the Type R stands out more , they also hold their value incredibly well in the used car market compared to used i30n.
It's more capable on track as proven by Throttlehouse on YT even against the likes of the new GR Corolla , they do the same task in different manners , same-same but different.
Simple answer really , if you can afford it then why not?
There's no arguing the i30n is a cheaper car , but as with any car it won't tick every single box for you so it's always individual preference mostly based on their financial aspect first and foremost. If you don't have the money you are not in the market and you have nothing to compare against.
Does the i30n perform as good as the Type R , with a professional driver I'll say yes it's pretty close.
For me , ever since owning an s2000 as a young driver it has always been the enjoyment of the gearbox and the connection to the car and Honda gearboxes for the average man especially the newer generation found in the FK8-FL5 have been praised online and on YT numerously as being better then Porche (try and find a genuine Porsche owner who isn't a brand snob and they will tell you it's true)
Personally I've never been privy to luxurious car interiors because as I have always been into my performance cars what mostly justifies the experience is how the engine and transmission are in sync and how it delivers that power and the fun that is derived from the driving experience as a whole.
Cars have come a long way in both technology and refinement , what was amazing 5 years ago is only mediocre and "standard" by today's terms , and humans being greedy you only always want "more" , humans are never content.
The fact the FL5 has Radar Cruise Control + Active Lane keeping assist means I can press 3 buttons and have the car drive itself semi-autonomously on the highway at speeds even around sharp curves , people should not inherently trust this feature but it is there all the same and it's great.
It's all Apples and Oranges really , I am not saying the i30n are bad cars but when you simply say something blatant like (why pay $10-15k more) .. then you truly don't understand what makes car's unique and why one would choose one car over another.
Simply put , it's like going down to the supermarket ...you can buy any chocolate you want...but the one YOU personally buy is the best because that's how it suits you.
Thanks to anyone who own any hot or warm hatch , it's you guys that keep this scene going..whether you got an i30n or a Type R or even a GR Yaris or GR Corolla or Ford Focus RS ..... It's the love of driving and the passion we have in all of our cars that make them as amazing as they are today
Drive fast , but stay safe.
      👍

The Elantra N has 80% of the Type R capability for the price. It's very capable, easy to drive, economical, etc. But it's simply not quite as good in most aspects of performance. Sure you can get close or surpass it for the money difference, but the same could be said about Type R vs something like a Camaro ZL1 1LE... You buy the Type R for the heritage, trick front suspension, space, build quality, very predictable handling, overall refinement, and its mix of daily comfort and track performance consistency. If you can't swing the price, an Elantra N is an excellent choice.
Nothing wrong with either car, they're both fantastic machines.

@@dw214 you do know to also track the Type R like the N you need a bit of money in upgrades. The N is also quicker if you put in just a few bucks. All in its cheaper to go the N route if you want to race or have a fun street car. The R takes a lot more work and money. Its got a good manual transmission though lol.

Mine is just a daily driver and one month after I bought it I dropped it off at the the dealership for Window tint. Two days later when I returned to pick it up the minimal power steering it is supposed to have in N mode was missing and the car handles more like it's in normal mode. I also had two fuel injectors go out within two months of each other. My car and the local dealership have both left me very disappointed...
