Introduction
Digital Surveillance systems are very easy to learn, but you have to make sure you plan properly.
Types of Systems
Analog DVR Systems -- Use Siamese Cable to connect cameras.
All cameras are directly connected to the system.
PC Based Systems are simply PC's with a DVR card installed.
DVR Appliances are specially built computers that are cheaper then PC Based systems, but are generally impossible to repair.
Video quality will never be better then DVD quality (Which is not actually very good)
IP NVR Systems -- Use Ethernet and TCP/IP to Transmit Video
These systems support very high resolution cameras
FPS -- Frames Per Second -- How smooth the video viewing is
30 FPS = Real Time, 15 FPS = Perceived Real Time, 7 FPS shows Jerky Video
FPS can be measured: Real Time Viewing and Recorded Video, It can be per card/ system and/ or per Channel
Resolution
IP Cameras use standard resolution measurement for any digital camera. Pixels are measured
Analog cameras are measured by TVL, Television Lines. 600 TVL is the Best, 320 TVL is the lowest quality.
Motion Recording
Systems and cameras can be configured so that video is only recorded when there is movement
Types of Cameras
Bullet -- are self contained and easy to aim.
Dome -- are covered with a plexiglas dome so that they cannot be tampered with
Vandal Proof Dome -- are hardened so that they can be hit with a bat/ hammer and not be damaged.
Box -- Are just the camera unit. You then add an appropriate Lens and Mount
Cameras are built to be used inside, or outside.
Low Light cameras can see in Low Lux. (Lux is a measurement of light)
No Light cameras use Infrared lights to illuminate an area and the camera can see the Infrared light.
Wide Dynamic Range Cameras can view in a wide range of lighting conditions
Auto-iris lenses automatically open and close the iris based on lighting conditions.
PTZ Cameras -- Pan, Tilt, Zoom
Not all PTZ Cameras do everything. Some only Pan, Some only Zoom.
Eli HATES Analog PTZ Camera Installation
PTZ Camera is connected to a Controller on the DVR/ NVR. Generally PTZ Cameras are wired in a loop configuration.
PTZ Cameras use protocols to communicate. Pelco D and Pelco P are widely used.
PTZ Cameras can have built in intelligence so that they can follow movements, or perform a preprogrammed pattern.
Networking
WAN Connection for remote viewing should be a minimum of 2Mbps upload speed
Mega Pixel Cameras can bog down a LAN.
Parallel networks are many times used to separate the Surveillance Network from the Computer Network.
Don't use an NVR/DVR for any other service then surveillance.
Client Expectations
Clients will think their system will do everything they see in Mission Impossible. Make sure to do a good job on Expectations Management
Legal Considerations
Surveillance systems are regulated by local laws. In Maryland taping Video is easy, but taping audio can run into legal issues. Talk to a lawyer!
Buying Parts
Network Cameras are built by reputable manufacturers and can be purchased like any other computer equipment.
Analog cameras are built by thousands of no name Chinese manufacturers. Be careful to know what you are buying.
SuperCircuits.com is a good vendor.
Final Thoughts
Digital Surveillance is a high profit and relatively easy to do business.
It requires a high materials cost
Make sure you plan properly, and buy good product. You don't want $6000 of equipment installed and have the project fail.

Great video, I love the fact that you take your time in your videos and get the info out there , other people do these three minute videos and just confuse people . Great job .
Excellent video:
Sharp sound, clear speech and excellent explanation.
Eli, you are a good teacher. love your sincerity. Please continue serving the world mate.
Never mind if its not abridged or condensed. People can just watch what they want ofcourse they know how to forward it don't they. It's best that you keep your tutorials big enough so that its comprehensive.
Eli, you are a library of computer knowledge, and I have improved a lot after watching your videos. Hats off to you man!
The best Teacher i have ever heard, so happy i found your channel. Thank You Eli.
I look forward to watching and learning from you.
Fantastic video for a newbie like me ... very thorough , excellent presentation ... a lot of very useful info ... I have got a better understanding on your 1 site than I have scoping out 12 others !!!
I am in Toronto, You are the best camera teacher. Keep going. Thanks for your job.
I really love watching your videos Eli! Thanks for what you do.
Eli...you are a Godsend! I stumbled upon your page and have been watching your videos for 3 days straight...absolutely fantastic!! Thank you sooo much...you are a GREAT teacher! This video was great and I cannot wait for the rest of the surveillance videos you have in store for us.
I am now in the surveilliance field. But as just entering, I found it very hard to get through. Thank you so much for this introduction. Really helps me a lot.
My new favorite subscription! Great video and audio made this experience so much easier to follow. Thank you Eli.
14:35 'this camera is DUMB, its below retarted" that about cracked me up but its true :)
It was a real amazing stuff Eli ... Now I am feeling much more confident about the same... The types of cameras n many more things really helped me out ... GOD BLESS U
well explained. As a beginner I came to know many points in surveillance. Clear speech. Thank you.
Thank you CCTV-Teacher for this brilliant piece. You make it all look so simple.
Please add something on powering CCTV systems.
Thank You, This is one of most important lesson that I have learned......;
Thank you Eli for your great tutorials!
You are Eli and amazing Teacher ! Thank you!
Sir God bless you, your sincerity is a reflection of your honesty, may you prosper in your endeavors. Your lecture is beyond any price.
D S Hoathi - Singapore.
Thank you very much for the beautiful lecture you are given online. i enjoyed it so much and main you remains abundantly blessed.
Thank You for this AWESOME video. I am not stupid, but have a lot to learn and you speak in a manner that I can understand. Your explanation of the different equipment is exceptional as well. i will be installing our home Surveillance System and really did not know what to purchase except off the shelf systems. You have given me the knowledge to do more research in what system I truly will need for my own circumstance. Keep up the Great work you do FREE!! It is Appreciated!
Incredible talk Eli. You are an amazing teacher. IMPORTANT: your forgot the fount of MOST COMMON TROUBLE of most newly cctv installers: power supply in general and dc inverted polarization in particular. If you plan to do this make sure you learn the basic of electricity and learn how to use a multimeter. You can fry all the system or a expensive camera if you dont know about this stuff.
Another consideration: its no so easy money thing if you do profesional work. You spend a lot of time meeting your client expetations, buying things and designin the system. And its a lot o money involved. So make sure you dont mess it up not reading more and testing in your house if you dont have the pacience or the guts to look like a thieve or and idiot to your costumers.

Good presentation buddy, i like your simple, not boring style.
And, I must add ...that I really appreciate your sharing of knowledge and your genuine expertise. Your tutuorial is why I go to You Tube. Thank you.
Thanks Eli, great work.
You're awesome for sharing this information.
Thank you.
Great video. I install myself and I concur.
Eli,
You have a wealth of information and have a great way of putting things into perspective, thanks for making these videos!
I do have some constructive criticism to share: Of course your classes need to be a certain length because you are sharing so much information, BUT, they get to be tedious and way too long due to unneeded repetition. Maybe you could follow an outline or something so you can be sure to hit every point but without repeating yourself so much?
Other than that, keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Eli, these new series of videos on camera systems will be very useful for me within the next months. I will need to install several Bosch AutoDome cameras and set them up to monitor several process points at our treatment plant. Thanks gain.
Eli has talent for teaching
Just starting out in the field. I appreciate your class! Very helpful!
What would you recommend for the next class to watch?
thanks buddy, you make a lot of sense.. much thanks
Damm you are one hell of a smart dude! God bless u bro!
Great vid!!! Thanks for the advice.
I love that at 1:25:55 you can see Eli thinking.. "Woa, Someones sunk a slug"
Hi. I like the positive level of discussion. Most of us newcomers don't have the expertise about the subject. I bought a system with 8 cameras. The price was low, But I learned a few things. The documentation was terrible , But eventually got it there. I now know what to look for.....Thanks......
I'm so impressed with your videos. Only 270 left to watch!
Great vid, please have more!!!
very good explaination, its very helpful.thanks prof eli
very informative. i wish i had you to explain everything to me.
Man, you are a genius
Great video. Do you have any videos on HD-SDI systems. I'm looking into installing a residential and commercial system. Thanks and keep up the nice work!
Eli you rock!!!
Eli, wonderful stuff. I came away from this session wanting more.... However, I think that means I will need to review the session two to three more times to pick up on key points missed. Question, when you set with a potential client, do you have a checklist (from your years of experience) that you used to ensure that all bases are covered?
Thanks Eli!!
thanks love the video i am starting my own business this helps a lo thanks mikec from tx
Thanks for amazing and informative videos
Would be great to have a glossary of all your acronyms...
Oh man thanks! It was educational even for me ;) and I'm in CCTVIP business for a while now.
it it really very usefull class ,and i like ur presentation.
when you were talking about the frames per second thing do you only have to worry about that with DVR base systems and analog cameras or does that pertain to NVR and newer IP cameras also
if I just want one or two camera with a monitor which should I buy? I can install it. needs to be digital so I can play back. having minor break ins lately in the neighborhood.
Fantastic job! You are a great teacher and use good verbage when you explain. Since it was a lengthy session, I would only suggest you include sample pictures or video to help illustrate some of your examples to keep our attention. I haven't watched all of your videos yet, so I'm not sure if I'm suggesting something you've already offered but instead of summarizing your lecture with lecture, simply show a specification sheet for several seconds and viewers can pause to look at it
THX for sharing
Great info!!!! Thanks..
why i did'nt found this channel when i was a kid
Thanks waiting for the installation course
Have you considered making videos for Lynda? You have some of the best classes :)
now you have HD SDI or HD TVI cameras that run 720p to 1080p over coax cable
Your videos are done very well. I would like to get some more info from you about Casino surveillance CCTV systems. I work with the Dalmier system and alot of PTZs. Any advice on these systems would be awesome.
Thank you Eli. I thought the video lesson was fine. Not so concise but found that going over the info a few times was actually helping me retain the information. I appreciate your generous consideration and effort to share your skills and knowledge.
Questions:
1.) What do you think about wireless systems?
a.) Can the signal reach 200 ft?
2.) For my home property (outdoor 2 acres) I'd like a 6 to 8 camera system w/ cameras as far as 200 ft from the DVR/NVR. Would you suggest a lower end "no lite" (IR) system.
3.) If wireless not recommended, is there a certain grade wire recommended for outdoor?
Thanks again,
Steph
hello and thanks for the video
I have a question regarding on how to play a cdfs wih an IMG file on it? it contains the surveillance video
It has the IntellexPlayer setup on it, but just wont open or run. And I cant find it on the web
Should I burn the IMG to a CD with Nero, or open it with a Virtual Drive software?
Great Video
COOL MAN THANKS
Thanks for the info ;)
I have an old DVR. It's a network DVR (my DVR 430). E-A900-05-4485(A). ICanTek. Does anyone know where I can find an owners manual or know what the button abreveastions mean on the thing? Thank you
Hello Eli great video tour are an excellent teacher and im in the security business and our camera in our dispatch office went black can that camera be surveiled by our employer if its broke .
Great info
you should make one on TVI camera's. I tend to sell TVI hybrid systems so that people can keep their old Analog Lines and still get to 1080P
UNSELFISH SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE.
Is 400FPS @ CIF (100 FPS @ D1) for 16 Channel DVR good or bad for Analogue DVR?
Can i use the same IP camera for security and to broadcast public streaming video from our website?
Can you set up a different port for upload for remote viewing?
Great information, very informative, you are a great Teacher. Do you give live classes in NYC?
@MrMac5150 The $2000+ Mega Pixel cameras CAN actually save a lot of money for a client if you spec the system properly. 1 $2000 camera can do the job of a $4000 4 camera system in the right situations.
So, you recommend PTZ cameras then?
Just kidding. I appreciate your instruction. I'm watching the advertisements to pay my tuition.
You'll probably need to go to your routers admin console to see which address was assigned to the camera. If you are wanting to access the camera from a computer that is not on the same LAN you will need to setup port forwarding on your router. Once that is setup you will access the camera by typing the routers IP in your web browser.
Please add some information about wireless lan bridge for IP cameras. I see Ubiquiti wireless IP camera systems around my neighborhood.
Thanks for the class, but I think you should mentioned the dip switches inside the ptz camera, which after matching with the dip-switch diagram that comes with your manual, will tell you exactly which dip switch you need to turn on to correspond to the protocol, baud rate, and cam ID/address. You left me under the impression that if you buy a ptz camera you have to rely on luck to have your dvr to have the same protocol as your ptz.
how do you weather proof ncb cables ? near cmarera outside?
hey eli what do u think about night owl 8 Channel Smart HD Video Security System with 1 TB HDD and 8 x 720p HD Cameras do yo think its a good buy ?
very good...
excellent thanks v v v much

hello sir, how r u ? actually i have a query. i wanna view my cctv cameras on MacBook Air i don't know what to do ?
IP Mega Pixel Cameras are the best. They can be integrated with your current network. Mostly the corporate clients will go for these.
i recently started install camera's. am more like a trainee. can you give me an order to watch these video lessons. i don't want to get confused? Thanks great Lesson.!!
We are starting a mobile surveillance company in Maryland. Do you have any advice on the legalities of running the type of service in MD (PG County).
Eli, just a thought but have you known if anyone has used one of their cameras for Astrophotography? Would the PTZ lens, mechanism or plastic cover be able to handle the sun's rays? I had thought of adding "Rooftop Astronomer" to my Rhoades Scholarship program. Just an idea, I'll ask around. Reg
you can buy the Pan Tilt (PT) mechanism separately from the camera... The attach the best camera...
