  • Dennis Atwell expresses his extreme frustration at having spent his own time and money organizing a small public exhibition for Guyana's 58th Independence Anniversary only to have the authorities inform him that he lacked the necessary permission to display his work on state property. Facing threats of police action, Dennis emphasizes his intent to promote national unity and his disappointment with the authorities' response.

Very sad indeed! Celebrating national pride is a problem for the government.

Some people are uneducated, and you don't need permission to display A national flag or former presidents of your country on Government building or fence.

This is Kohli Guyana. They don't want African participatión in national events. That's why they alone will face Venezuela who will make slavery of them

Big man a like your patriotism and push fuh national unity and a feel yuh frustration but somehow I believe that if it’s not the state putting it up, you should have gotten a permit, regardless of which party is in power. ❤️🇬🇾

So to show Guyanese that our history and lands and our pride of country. Especially at a time when Venezuela 🇻🇪 is threatening and not respecting and decisions yet to be put forward, and this son of this soil who went into his pockets mind you, to show our people that dispite any past grievance among each other, in this day our independence we should be resolute where it concerns our national pride as well as our lands, all 83,000sq miles. A permit is needed to bring beauty to a post office that has scores of vagrants lying down on its pave when the day come. Brother give me a break 😤 this republic is doomed.

I agree with you. Mr. Atwell should have inquired whether or not he required a permit to display his exhibition. That being said, I do applaud his patriotism.
Perhaps, he could have displayed it at Durban Park, a space which seems to be neglected by the Government.
I recall that V. Alexander had received permission to display an exhibition at the Public Library, then the permission was rescinded at the last moment. So he moved it to the Ave on Main St.
      Everything is political, very sad.

@@duanejohnson5607 I understand your frustration and we’re not doomed, once we have life, we have a chance. The fact still remains, that the law is the law and we all should abide by it, until we get it changed. We’re not saying he shouldn’t do it, I actually like it but do it the right way. That’s all I’m saying.

That’s very funny, when Burnham starved the Guyanese people for 28 years, rice flour days and malnutrition. Until now the pnc trying to rigged an election in front of the whole world. Pnc supporters are shameless, they never accept and speak the real truth about the oppressor pnc.😀😀😀😀😀😀
