Influence: The Beatles’ “Come Together” was heavily influenced by Chuck Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me,” with John Lennon acknowledging the influence and even incorporating similar lyrics into his song. Controversy: Chuck Berry’s publisher, Morris Levy, sued John Lennon in 1973 for copyright infringement, claiming that “Come Together” was too similar to “You Can’t Catch Me.” Lennon ultimately settled the lawsuit out of court. In conclusion, while “Come Together” by The Beatles and “You Can’t Catch Me” by Chuck Berry share some similarities, they also have distinct differences in terms of lyrical content, musical style, and influence. They didn't "steal" it. The deal was (according to Frank himself) was that both parties agreed that they could use the tapes as they wished. Lennon thought the music was being improvised, even though, as Frank says, the song has chord changes. And by the way, I love Frank.

Given the Rock Hall's obsession with John Lennon, I wouldn't be surprised if Yoko made it in first ballot 😂😂. That, despite the fact that amazing bands like Heart, AIC's, Boston never get any consideration.
Nah him and Hendrix were closer than you'd think he just wished he'd learn to write music, but what Zappa and most people didn't realize is that the mistakes Hendrix would make while playing led to different improvisations that gave him a unique sound
Also, in this very interview, Zappa refuses to recognize Pink Floyd and some other progressive bands as 'progressive bands' because they weren't progressive enough for him to consider them progressive.
No he loved hendrix. He was envious that hendrix could sing and play at the same time. As good as frank is...., Frank cannot. He also wished that hendrix had more music theory knowledge. Then he wouldve been Lethal. But they are both legends in their own right and style of playing. They were pretty good friends
He also said Lennon could use the tapes whatever way he wanted, probably assuming they guy wouldn’t be a snake about it, and trusting him on a verbal honor code. The “whoops” is probably talking to himself about trusting him.
What would be the point? He’d lose more money by hiring a team of lawyers, than he could make from royalties on a obscure song? Now if were “Imagine” he ripped off, then yes you’d definitely go all in.

As far as Yoko, all I know is the authors of the books I've read really didn't like her.
For anybody in the US who doesn't know, "Jam Rag" is a British slang euphanism for "Sanitary Towel" given the similarity in appearance to a slice of bread spread with Strawberry or Raspberry Jam, or Jelly as you guys in the US call it. I wouldn't recommend eating a "Jam Rag" however.
Thanks for that info, and let me return the favor by telling you that in America, both Jam and Jelly are used because they're two different things, Jam contains the cooked fruit whereas Jelly does not.

Lennon has always been overrated. Paul was the real heart and soul of the Beatles. The hippie generation just loved John's mystical vibes and poetic talk, so they give him a musical status he didn't merit.
Sorry to disagree, but John would never have written such trivial songs like Your mother should know, Maxwells Silver Hammer, Honey Pie, etc. Paul may have been the heart and soul, But John was the brains and the conscience of the Beatles. John absolutely hated Paul’s “granny music “ (rightly so)
You hear the new single? That’s granny music. John was the soul, Paul was the brains, ringo the heart and George was the blood/glue. When he wasn’t dour
The way Zappa spoke always made me feel like these interviews were a lot more recent than they actually were. With his sense of humor and his cadence, he sounds like he'd fit in more in the present day than in the 70's or 80's.
No.... Yoko just revealed what he always was, and then kicked his ass to the curb, and that's why you heard nothing else from him for the rest of the 70's
Having just listened to the song, Frank should be glad that John and Yoko took credit for it. Quite possibly the worst thing ever recorded. I'm sure Frank didn't miss the $1.74 in royalties this "song" generated.
I thought the same thing after hearing it. It's completely unlistenable. I like Zappa and Lennon, but Zappa had a lot of stuff that only theory nerds enjoy, mathematically complex music with no emotion or feeling behind it. I respect him as a musician, but most of his music is difficult to listen to (and I actually like a fair amount of Jazz and Classical, I'm not a pop only person). Lennon was an extremely gifted writer of pop songs and knew how to write good hooks that really grabbed your ear. He knew how to tug at the heartstrings and create music that inspired. He had a social and political consciousness in his solo work as well. I also personally believe that while he was immensely flawed, history has been a tad unfair to him in the sense that he's been turned into this villain when he was a combination of darkness and light, as are we all.
Nothing more than a noise....anyone can string together a few chords and notes and say "somebody did write it." Has Frank ever said anything good about anyone, himself excepted.
I heard Richie Havens say Bob Dylan stole All Along The Watchtower from him in the bitter end days. I further heard him say, people in that scene would share songs etc
Wasn’t Frank’s voice just so mellifluous? I love listening to him. Not only was his voice wonderful, but he was also a very bright man and wide awake. We’d have benefited from his wisdom today had he not died so young.
He would have hated this world today, more than the ones who actually see past all the bullshit do...Can you imagine if he was still alive?.."they" would've killed him for speaking on it..
This is the exact same thing as that Progressive commercial where Jamie exclaimed, " Well, I didn't win the lawsuit...but, EVERYONE knows I wrote that song!" LOL

Differences:
Lyrical changes: While both songs feature a character with a “flat top,” the lyrics of “Come Together” by The Beatles are more abstract and open to interpretation, whereas “You Can’t Catch Me” by Chuck Berry has more specific lyrics about a character trying to evade capture.
Musical style: “Come Together” by The Beatles features a slower, funkier groove with a prominent bass line, whereas “You Can’t Catch Me” by Chuck Berry is a faster-paced, rockabilly-inspired song.
Influence: The Beatles’ “Come Together” was heavily influenced by Chuck Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me,” with John Lennon acknowledging the influence and even incorporating similar lyrics into his song.
Controversy:
Chuck Berry’s publisher, Morris Levy, sued John Lennon in 1973 for copyright infringement, claiming that “Come Together” was too similar to “You Can’t Catch Me.” Lennon ultimately settled the lawsuit out of court.
In conclusion, while “Come Together” by The Beatles and “You Can’t Catch Me” by Chuck Berry share some similarities, they also have distinct differences in terms of lyrical content, musical style, and influence.
John settled which tells you something about the similarities.

Every time Frank talks about other musicians, he puts them down. Listen to what he said about Hendrix
He seemed like a pretty miserable guy
He was close friends with Hendrix, what do you mean?
