You do have a time machine - you just don't realize it. Stop comparing how bad things are in the present to how much better and simpler they were in the past (say 35 years ago). Instead, start comparing how much worse things are going to be 35 years from now (and believe me, they will be worse) to how moderately good we have it today. See? Instant time machine!

The whole "run down school movie" era was interesting. No way a movie like this could exist now. The issues would be so superficial and stupid.

well the fact that 1st world problems are the only problems they now face is progress of a kind. although i do still think these exact issues still exist in certain areas, hollywood would dare not broach the subject for fear of being labeled racist. of course they could make it an entirely white school, but that would just make their cowardice even more obvious

For a guy who doesn't have leading man good looks like Brad Pitt, Jim Belushi sure made a prolific career for himself. He's been in like 50 movies and had a sucessful sitcom that lasted for like 8 years. Good for him! He's a great actor. I loved him in Red Heat with Arnold too. I would love to meet him and get a picture with him. I bet he's a really nice down to earth guy. There's something very likeable and approachable about him. I wonder if he does fan conventions? :)

I went to a tough junior high school in New Jersey in the late seventies. Those were the days when the teachers would get physical with unruly students. I saw a teacher choke out a student in the lunch room because the kid threw a half pint of milk at his back. Nowadays that would be a lawsuit and the teacher would be arrested.

I love this movie! SO much better than Dangerous Mind (Michelle Pfeiffer is awesome I just thought that movie wasn't very good) I love Jim Belushi because he's got a decency about him. He's got a likeable average Joe every man quality about him. The kind of guy you'd like to be friends with. He and Louis Gossett and Michael Wright did an excellent job in this outstanding 80's classic!

This was a great scene. You could see early on that this kid was conflicted & Rick made the right moves to reach him & try to protect him. I remember saying "please dont be dead" when the gang got to him bc he has potential. Real life stuff for kids in this kind of environment. This movie would be looked at as "woke liberal garbage" if it came out today & was exactly the same.
