  • As a true citizen of the world, Samina Ansari is passionate about human rights. Her background in law helps her in her projects like gender awareness and refugees. Most recently, she worked on a project on legal education in Kabul, Afghanistan, her country of birth. Life taught her the importance of being flexible and considering different standpoints in order to solve problems. She is often asked whether she feels Afghan or where does she consider “home” to be. Her answer to that question is simple. “I am Samina, I don’t belong to any country, home is wherever I want it to be”.
Samina was one of the winners of the TEDxMaastricht pitch night. She was born in Afghanistan, then moved to Norway with her family. Interested by the focus of the programme, she decided to her master in Globalisation Law at Maastricht University.
Samina Ansari is born in Afghanistan, then moved to Pakistan, to then emigrate to Norway with her family. After studying Cyber Security Law from the University of Oslo, she spent the following year doing internships with the UN. Afterwards, she found another place to call home, Maastricht. Interested by the focus of the program, she decided to start her master in Globalization Law at Maastricht University.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I’m Afghan and I do share similar feelings. Proud of your courage for expressing your inner feelings to the world. Wish you all the best and hope we get to see our dreams come true with Afghan uniting to build their nation.

This Afgan girl is positively beautiful and smart. The women of the middle east are so beautiful. No wonder the men want to keep them in arranged marriages all covered up.

Afghanistan is not in the "Middle East", it lies in Central Asia. That comment was actually pretty rude, stereotyping both, Afghan women as well as Afghan men, even though it may have not been the initial intention.

It's a very neoliberal notion that everything is a matter of perspective, including home. This drowns realities, turning them into fictional constructs... When everything is true, nothing is true. In such a world, we live in a sphere of mere subjectivities and uncertainties. It's highly invalidating of the stories and the truths refugees carry with them to tell them there is no such place as "home". It's adding insult to injury.

Being from Afg I feel ashamed to watch her... She can't be honest claiming of having sympathy and humanity for her fellow countrymen. If it was so! the way her appearance is of red district of Amsterdam models...
