    I didn’t know potatoes would grow in some shade. Thanks. I haven’t grown potatoes yet mainly because i am short on full sun locations. Thanks again from Tennessee.

    Greetings, Erica, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸
    I love your Huggleculture. I make a simple compost with Grass Clippings and shredded cardboard.
    Amazing how simple it can be.
    Well done 🌿💚🌿

    I have a mini version of this. When I’m filling big pots with soil, I fill the bottom half with old waste paper (my old seed catalogues with recyclable pages are good for that), toilet rolls and kitchen roll inners, Amazon boxes etc then add my compost on top. Then I just top up the pots with fresh compost every so often.

    What a great idea. I've got 2 new beds that was given to me for my birthday, and I've put off filling them because I've been scared of bringing bad soil into my garden. Thank you so much for this video.

    Loving all the camera angles today during the mowing and filling! You must spend lots of time switching things up with your equipment to give us a lovely seamless finished product. Thanks for your effort.

    Another good reason to show it in progress is so people realize it's something that takes place over time and not instant.
    Unfortunately, if put in one video, the time it takes don't register for most people.

    Another excellent video Erica making a raised bed without cost & compost which is a great idea especially during these times when the price of everything is increasing. Always enjoy your video's and they are appreciated and thanks for sharing 👍.

    This is such useful information. The bags of compost are no better for growing food than what organic material we can find. Good for mother earth too!

    Love your videos. You are an authentic candid gardener. Gardening can be $$$ but I can't afford what these supposedly self-sufficient off-the grid CZcams gardeners are doing. I'm a DIY & poor but able to grow a variety of vegetables and fruits with no store bought fertilizer, compost, or fancy beautiful garden tools & accessories. Thank you for sharing. I always learn something new from you. -Maryland, USA

    Thank you for sharing this no $ bed refresh!
    Depending on your climate and other growing spaces, one could do one set of green & brown layers on top of the bottom fill, and add a few inches of compost, soil from another area, or from spent pots. It's then ready to water, let it settle, and plant something this year!

    Just found your channel and enjoying very much as I am a newbie to growing veg, have had results but still learning.
    We have a big spare patch between poly tunnel & greenhouse and its just covered in weeds and stinging nettles. If I STRIM those down can I use them on top of cardboard. We are cutting down a holly and conifer tree can these leaves go on to it with grass cuttings? Also do you just leave it or do you have to turn it over every now and then.Just cut hedge so to late for the twigs from that. Can you let me know as will be cutting down the two trees in a couple of weeks.
    Would rather use them instead of taking down tip . thanks bev

    Hello. I just found your channel and I am impressed. I have subscribed to your channel and I am enjoying your videos. What is meant by “allotment” in your gardening? Are you only allowed so much space to grow your gardens? Or are you only allowed a certain amount of different vegetables? Thank you, you are doing a good job.

    • @dandelion6559
      @dandelion6559 Před 2 lety +1

      I think an allotment in Britain is public land that has been given to community gardeners and each person who belongs to it gets a certain amount of land to garden with.

    • @ericaslittlewelshgarden
      @ericaslittlewelshgarden  Před 2 lety +1

      You don't need big logs and you can ask friends and family for the hedge clippings, failing that you can mix cardboard with the grass.

      Last fall I recommended a neighbor pile leaves from her trees on her raised beds, as she'd filled them with pretty poor soil, and just planned to send her leaves to city compost!
      I'd mentioned the hujelkulture option earlier: removing some of the dirt and adding sticks, cardboard, etc, and suggested she start her own compost pile.
      My 11 year old grandson and I made a ring of hardware cloth for a new compost at their house.
      They have lots of brown paper bags, and a pile of cut grass and clover beside the new bin, so we dump a layer of compost from their family of 4, into a bag within the wire, top with a layer of the dried clippings, repeating till one bag is full, then start another. I have a round bin at my house, and top layers of kitchen waste with shredded paper or leaves, etc.
      I often use the spent potting soil from old pots for a soil layer on top of a bed. .
