  • In this throwback message from January 17th, 2016, at Bethel Church in Redding, CA, Kris Vallotton explores the profound journey of moving from a slave-master type relationship with God into friendship, emphasizing our identity in Christ and the freedom we have received. He reminds us of the importance of abiding in Jesus, while challenging us to embrace the pruning process that paves the way for deep intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

It's true to sin in the flesh. Be ok with repentance, there is success in humility.

I don’t even know how to thank you for this message. From today it’s redefined my relationship with God. I feel set free from something that wasn’t even an issue, but I know now my ideas matter to God more than I thought. And I can be his friend. Thank you.

Read Bruce Wilkinson’ Secrets of the Vine. In that book, the author says, he met a man in California who owned a vineyard. That man explained to him that the verse you quoted about taking away branches that don’t bear fruit, as if the branches were destroyed, is a poor translation. The same word in the original language is translated elsewhere in the Bible as “takes up” or “lifts up.” The author had asked the man what they do with grape vines that aren’t producing fruit, and he replied they ware way too valuable to throw away and that those immature vines growing along the ground producing only leaves not fruit are picked up off of the ground (lifted up) and attached to wooden stakes, so that they can no longer grow along the ground. They are pruned so they will bear fruit. Not cut off from the body as if worthless for not being perfect.

I’m wondering if those two seeming opposed statements are mutually exclusive. I think they can both be true. Definitely going to get that book though! Thanks for sharing❤

I like this, but what about the "thrown into the fire and burned" part?

I ❤ the way you preach, and your imagination when you think about Biblical conversations and stories... It reminds me of how my imagination works, too.

I love this message! One of my big takeaways was: Listening to the Spirit is the beginning of life but friendship with the Spirit is maturity in life.

The individual who has put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior is in personal fellowship with Him all the time. Jeremiah 23:23 The problem with God is not that He's so far away that we can't see Him. Rather, He is so close that we overlook Him. That means, you can have an Conversation with GOD anytime anywhere . The eternal purpose of God in Jesus Christ is to give us this new relationship with God (John 3:16; 6:37, 39; 2 Corinthians 5:14-21). 1Corinthians 3:16-20 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

    Read 1 Chronicles 28:19
The temple of David that was built by Solomon was still God’s idea. Not David’s own idea and then God chose it to honor him as his friend.
I also believe God calls us as friends.
    I’m just fact checking!
I respect anyone’s passion for the kingdom of God and His people, so just trying to be helpful!

Read this, 1 Chronicles 28:2, “Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it.

This man is about to be exposed. God knows about his foolishness. His acting is going to crush him. He not funny. God is going to close this house.
