Ahhhhhh now this takes me back to games where you were trying desperately to get the baddie to follow you but their A.I. was all like "No way." Good times.
I think Dumah wouldn't follow you to places that didn't lead to that incinerator room, so that was probably intentional. But yeah, I remember so many games from that time where you had to babysit NPC companions, because they'd get stuck on every single corner or rocks, randomly ran off and despawned, or jumped into their deaths.
This game was only limited by its technology.god it needs a remake
Im with you if this game was remade I'd be playing the fuck out of it just for reliving this alone
I’m okay with a remaster, considering a remake would replace tony jay and rewrite the script so the word fuck would win over the “edgy demographic.”
There are overwhelming more middling/bad remakes than good/excellent ones.
@@TheMilhouseExperience Yeah but Square Enix owns Legacy of Kain now, and their FF7 Remake was fantastic. That said, I wouldn't want a full remake for LOK. The game is great as is. An HD remaster with some QOL improvements would be fine.
And a few sequels to finish the series

The ONE fight i hated doing in this game. Getting Dumah to follow you was a pain.
God yes
It take me about 1 week to figure that out !
Yea his pathing was all sorts of janky for some reason. The fight itself wasn't hard at all. I kind of wish, though, that maybe you fought Dumah in more of a straight up fight instead of the puzzle-style like the other boss fights. Then again, combat in Soul Reaver was rather rudimentary...not fairly deep like in Defiance
Making NPCs follow you in these old games was always a pain. Lol.
@@KyanoAng3l0 it still sucks even in current games lol
yay, you added the unique/optional cutscene :D
Yes i thought the same :D
But he missed the cutscene where Raziel speaks with Dumah’s trapped soul in the spectral world
BardocksGaming oh yeah, it just made sense in my head to see if Dumah was still present after his “death”
BardocksGaming no problem, have fun
I'm glad to see that your profile picture is still Kain
If they remade this game, I wouldn't be surprised if they made Dumah twice as tough and puzzling to defeat.
@@xWelshlad92x Guess it's up to us fans.
@@xWelshlad92x I just got a new PC and Unreal Engine 5. I have a few ideas, but now I'm more interested in seeing how well I could remake one of the areas in Soul Reaver.
They're going to remaster it
If groovestreet games remade it would be harder cause it would be even jankier lol
They could give it the intended original ending too, instead of the overly complicated mess that the sequels turned it into.
When I was a Kid took me a lot of time to figure it out how to beat this boss. No internet, no youtube, no guides, you only had your own brain, no one can help you.
Oh i remember the struggle, I stumbled across the spectral realm dialog Purley down to accident.
Like in the video I fail hard at the statue puzzle and all you had to do was run around it 😂
@@xWelshlad92x I didn't even know about the spectral scene until decades later
There were those video game magazines that came out that had tips and tricks.
Ironically, I think one of the most famous ones (at least among me and my friends) was called “Tips and Tricks.”
Yea I feel you there. Same thing happened to me and I'm sure countless others. I remember attacking him with one of the stakes thinking I needed to impale him again. Nope. Not even the Soul Reaver or the Fire Reaver worked. Nothing did. Took me a good 20 minutes of letting him chase me that I put two and two together
"Centuries in limbo have honed my strength", I wish I could hone my strength by sitting all day.
I never got far enough to Dumah but his boss battle is the most interesting.
This game freaked me out some when i was young it had a shadow man like to it
Shadow Man Was Tough...
I LOVE legacy of kain series. But I remember when I was playing my mom used to get so annoyed with the sound of hours of raziels feet running. Lol she's kinda right, they do overpower all the atmosphere sounds lol
@@xWelshlad92x lol oh man, I bet it was lol
I love his running Sound 😆
Wow.. now I know where God of War got its ideas from.. 👍👍
Just even reading this made me realize how much more I would've loved god of war if we had camera control lol
The sound of Dumah stomping after you scared me as a kid.
Even worse when you could hear him running after you
@@xWelshlad92x Before facing him, I always made the way to the furnace at least twice so I wouldnl't enter in the wrong corner.
Same brotha, I was shitting myself when he was running after me
Such good times such memories #longliveLOk
Actually if you leave dumah to far behind you basically if you run to incinerator to fast he won't follow you all the way & return to the throne room even if you go the right way also you can't do it in the spectral realm but I did forget about that secret spectral realm cut scene
Dumah's screams were funny xd
Dumah thought his brother came to save him awwwwwww!!!!!!!!
I’m glad to see there are still relatively new comments 8 years later
Yeah, it still gets love
I can’t believe the vampire hunters who “killed” Dumah didn’t finish the job by burning his body, especially when the means to do so were *right there*. Kinda wish they had, it would’ve been cool to fight Dumah in the Spectral Realm instead
The real question is who was strong enough to impale Dumah in the first place?
GOOD question...
The fact that the soul reaver himself had a hard time with dumah and that wr know it was a vampire hunter who impaled him...... let's just say he must have been one badass human
His arrogance and surprise attack (the game tells you indirectly, dumah thought was invincible...like a god, but "humans" Probably defeat him like you see in the Game,so poetic)
@@bgill6623 Thats what I'm talking about, I wish there was lore on that guy.
@Gabriel Adonai Amen!
Oh man the memories awrsome game
Crispy dumah burgers with extra hardcore bacon 🥓
He Wakes him up to kill him lol
yeah that was genius concept
He does seek vengeance upon his brother but he still has respect for him. He wouldn't kill him in such a cowardly fashion nor would he leave his brother impaled like a pig by vampire hunters. The game is quite genius actually.
Raziel needs to destroy him to consume his soul (real and Spiritual soul), he resurrect him because "spiritual soul" was trapped (the game explain you at Beggining, with first dumahin hunt)
He couldn't kill him. All of Raziel's brothers are so powerful that direct attacks do nothing. You have to use the environment and in this case the incinerator.
I doubt it had much to do with respect. He probably just saw no other way to get Dumah there except by reviving him first.
Come to think of it, the humans who impaled him probably couldn't even find a way to destroy the body. That would explain why they shackled it.
Imo, Dumah and Kain have the coolest character designs among the vampires. Elder Kain, probably the best in the series
Was found like a stuck pig
Ended like a roasted pig

Raziel- "Huh. No way outta this cage. Guess I'll just yeet this obelisk over and hop on out!"
Mano esse jogo é uma lenda é a melhor parte do jogo
poor dumah
Is to this on pc? I don't recall the game looking this beautiful on ps1. Maybe I'm just a nerd, but I'm sitting here going "god, look at those crisp, clean textures!"
In pop ps1 is possibly the worst the game looks. It's decent on dreamcast, but ps1... I spent a lot of the game going "I wonder what that is..." Especially this level is nice to see with better graphics. It's easily my favorite environment in the game.
+BardocksGaming I have it on PC and for me all the boss fight songs are Melchia's theme, I am only up to Dumah. Did this happen with you?
oh...well it does that for me. It is a bit frustrating also all the themes for the areas I am in are the fight themes...
Yea, I have it on the playstation but I find it easier to play on the PC
Dreamcast is best version.
Dumah's AI is so dumb that hurts!!!
that wasnt the path he was supposed to go
the player is stupid
@@xWelshlad92x sorry, my bad
MY BLOOD THIRST HAS BEEN SUBSIDED BY AN EVEN DARKER HUNGER. I WILL CONSUME YOUR SOUL BEFORE THIS DAY IS DONE. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🥳
Didn't know about spectral cutscene
Has anyone ever noticed that in soul reaver 2 & defiance raziel don't have his brothers constricting power no more is it because developers where lazy or because dumah was dead & had to. Be resurrected it would have been fun to use it on enemies even if they couldn't think of puzzles for it
it was just very useless and was dumped for gameplay reasons i assume
Actually, the constriction power was a way the developers got to overcome the PSX engine's limitations which not allowed Raziel to horizontaly spin objects. This was solved in the next generation console, so Raziel kept only the powers of three of his brothers.
@@guilhermeaugusto512 okay thanks
@@shavoidpatrick1602 You welcome.
the game is good but the camera movement is terrible sometimes game breaking . i played the game in 99 for the first time on ps1 still great game with very poorly aged camera movement
It hasn't aged well, even back then I struggled playing it. Definitely needs a remake.
What's choir in the background?
I wonder how Raziel is able to move those big blocks with most of his core muscles missing?
Gotta lift with those knees 😂
Does Simon Templeman do everybody's voice in this game
Only Kain's and Dumah's voices; Tony Jay did The Elder God and Zephon, Michael Bell did Raziel and Melchiah, Richard Doyle did Moebius and Tomb Guardian (The Turel stand-in), and Neil Rose was Rahab, and finally Anna Gunn was Ariel and seemingly her only role in video games.
And so goes Dumah... again.
Yeah, his Comeback ended pretty quickly 😆
Ok how were you supposed to know to bring him to the furnace? I’ve been fighting him for like 20 minutes and nothing has happened so I looked it up
I lost an hour, lured him to that place but the door was locked. Watched this video to see that door blasted open... Figuring it out with a monster behind your back was close to impossible. This whole level is designed to question your sanity. Bad camera doesn't help either
I'm sorry you had to use my video as a guide Since even I got lost and had to deal with Dumah getting stuck in one place refusing to follow me lol
3:40 вокруг статуи надо побегать.
Constrict powers
You gain them after defeating dumah
The music at 7:00 HALO vibes anyone??
If you think so, you can find halo's "actual" music in a game from 1998. "Myth II: Soulblighter" had it's soundtrack made by "O'Donel and Salvatori", who I think did halo's. Search for the so called "epilogue" ending cutscene of "Myth II".
Is this emulated? It looks so good. What settings if so?
@@xWelshlad92x I see, thank you. I have it on steam as well. Ill give a try.
Dumah's statement "the centuries in limbo have honed my strength" doesn't make sense. Because total lack of movement would cause your muscles to atrophy not strengthen
he could be talking about his spirit?
@@xWelshlad92x Good point
Raziel states at the very beginning of the game "Kain would enter a state of change and emerge with a new gift. Some years after the master, our evolution would follow", and it has been stated that the vampires enter a state of pupation, where they are in a sort of suspended animation and they eventually evolve and become stronger. I'd hazard a guess that vampire physiology is much different than human, in that when the pupate, they still become stronger (physically and spiritually) even though they are not moving. I'd hazard a guess that when Dumah was defeated and impaled, he could have entered a forced pupation "stage" while his soul remained trapped in the spectral realm, and he therefore became more powerful. Does that make sense?
I don't remember this fight at all what the hell
Are you on about the secret sequence only triggered by going into spectral realm? If that's the case, most people seem to find it out by accident like I did when I was a kid
1:20 fail
Maybe 6 years too late for a reply 😂 but I was playing on the pc and using keyboard and mouse wasn't my strong point back then
