Nice work! It is easy enough, but very fiddly. Holding the board steady is defo key. Still can't believe those videos I've seen where they're chasing the board around the worktop

Hey, thank you for making this video, and also for the links to buy all the stuff needed. I just ordered the soldering iron kit.
Question: are the soldering flux and paste necessary and what do they do exactly?

Haha I actually needed to do this to my EX saab 9-5 & Also the Mercedes after that, But thought i couldn't do it, thinking of mini electronics and needing diffrent iron ect, BUT still very usefull too know, Thank you soo much.đŸ‘đŸ„‡. It would of fixed my bastard intermittent whole locking system on the 9-5,What a pain that was working through the possibilities. This job was 2nd to last thing i could of done..., Or the computering under the passengers seat, Which i checked the underside, And not too much rust was seen after 16 years, It had an original backbox too lol. Eeee i miss her 😱😭. THANKS AGAIN CYD, For the demonstration & Passing the Video & your Wisdom. Much love.

    Hi. Thanks for the video.
I have the same buttons as your original. It is just that the top part of it (silvery thing with the black dot/button) has come off from the bottom part, which is still connected to the plate.
I have put the top part back on the button part (more or less it just required a little squeeze). But the button still doesn't work. Do you know why?

Another great helpful video Sid, but please if that high gloss worktop isn't granite put something on it to protect it from heat or scratches.

Is there a higher quality replacement for the two-terminal switch you'd recommend from Mouser, like that rectangular one you showed comes with a replacement key case? Or do you recommend using the ones that look identical to stock from the assorted switch box from Amazon?
The switches on one of my keys went gummy before the outer case fell apart, so I want to use a switch that's higher quality than OEM

I have been having a mini breakdown until I saw your post. I don't have a new replacement switch so I'm using the 'lock' button which is in good order, and moving it to the unlock spot. My good remote fob fell out of my pocket and is in sight behind the locked door. The drivers door is unfortunately one I got second hand after crunching the original a month ago. Stupidly when I put the new door on I mustn't have put the old lock on the new door, so the key whichnwould have opened it manually won't. I am going to try a wire coat hanger first but do not have much confidence as the working key/fob (even if I can snag it) is on a weighty ring of keys that i think will be to big to get through any gap i can temporarily force. I'll have more luck trying to press the open button as it sits on the seats. If that fails I will need to get muck better at soldering than I was last time I had a go at it. I can see me in a few hours having a major league grown man tantrum. Is it cheaper to replace the drivers side window or calling someone out? I can see me breaking the window! The glass is probably not that expensive. Omg I've just thought, I still have the old door complete with glass.1

Any chance you can show how to "virginize" a remote with pcf7946at. I have about 10 old keys that I want to sell. Also, where is this chip on the CIM? Wonder if it's replaced Tech2 will see CIM as factory.

Just got the kit that you recommended, none of them fit exactly but as long as I use a 4 prong switch for a 4 prong board, it should work right?

  • @abdomination

Oh I did a terrible job of this I should have watched a video one more time to get reference I just did a really bad job resoldering them on or an aiming when I took them off question I'm hoping it will work I'm about to get it unlocked. In order to program new keys you need a fob and a tattoo and just access to the car right you can assign or program new keys I don't have to change the CIM or nothing?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Pƙed rokem +1

As long as you have one working key you can program another. I think 'working' in this instance means it must start the car, so buggered switches might not be such an issue. Speak to your Tech2 guy (or gal).

@@CycloneCyd we have no tech2 people here.. I plan to get one during tax time.. although I planned that for two years.. update.. the buttons work with my ugly ass solder and I had the car unlocked and now it's usable. I just need to get this stripped screw off the coilpack covers so I can replace the yellowtops with the blacktops I got at the junkyard.. and I have to work on my rough shifts

Fry's active plumbing flux!! WOW. That shit will have the PCB and switch eaten as quick as your builder can eat a sandwich for lunch mate. You should always use an electrical flux such as rosin and it should always be washed off with isopropyl alcohol straight after the soldering has taken place.

The only thing I would say is "Easy DIY" is misleading. It is far from easy for a DIYer who has no previous soldering skill (you said buy a soldering iron) especially with key fobs with components in very close proximity to the microswitch solder pads.
