Absolutely love the art. I hope they use this style for another game. Boss rush/run&gun arent really my thing but it looks awesome and I'm glad fans of those genres got a beautiful and quality game :)

Just a couple of tips to people new to the game: 1) landing a parry fills a full card on your super meter, so getting good at these can make boss fights much easier; 2) for those who are gluttons for punishment, there is also an expert mode if you beat the game on normal which adds the opportunity to get S ranks on levels. @@SwitchUpYt yeah it does add another difficult timing and memorization element to an already brutal game, but there are a couple bosses particularly the airplane ones that I'm not sure I'd have ever beat without nailing the parries in the easier phases so I could save up the big bomb and shorten the hard phases. I am awful at the shmup levels!
Yeah, those levels are tough. The freaking candy lady though! Oh my words, she and her little sweetie minions cause me an evening of unrivalled frustration before I finally beat them! Glen

I knew I was going to get this even before you reviewed it, but once again your reviews only help solidify my choice. It also allows me to “switch up” my reasoning when talking with the wife as to why I just spent more money.

Not to be elitist, but you should give it another try! There are a lot of games out there that are a total blast to play when you get the hang of it. Maybe something will just click with you.
With this game, the more you play, the more you get used to the bosses and how they react. My first play through, I died at least 600 times or more, now that I have played it so much, I will die maybe 2 or 3 times. And once you get used to the bosses, then you start to master how to maneuver cuphead and look for parry slaps throughout the game. That’s when you really get better. It’s all about how committed you are to playing, then mastering the game. It really is one of the best, most addictive games I have ever played.
So glad they let you map the controls. I felt the default were not very natural. Switching dash to A and special move to X works a lot better for me making jump and dash next to each other while coupling the two weapon buttons side by side. I also feel that ZL and ZR are a lot easier to press than the default L and R. Took about two rounds to get used to the change but it made things really smooth once the muscle memory kicks in.
@2341 5h4m3 I'm really enjoying it - it's a kind of life sim with beat em up mechanics in a reasonably sized open world - obvious homage to River City Ransom. Some annoyances I find is it can be difficult to manage money due to some things being quite expensive for what they are (food, for example), and some of the combat techniques I've learned seem quite difficult to time right, but that may also be a user error 🤣 I've got a routine to manage classes, a part time job, working out and of course roaming the streets at night picking fights for extra cash (from looting bodies afterwards) It's just relaxing to play for the most part, where I have found even getting knocked out isn't overly annoying. I recommend it if you were a fan of River City Ransom.

I have been waiting all day to leave work and play this. I don't have an XBOX One, so I never watched any playthroughs of this just because I didn't wanna fall in love with something I couldn't play. Just played it for an hour straight, and I couldn't have predicted how much I actually love this game.
Great review!!! This game fully deserves to be called one of the best platformers ever created. I've got it on xbox, planning to download on the Switch, and then purchase the physical copy. I highly recommend this gem to everybody seeking rewarding and honest challenges.
Man parry is the most important skill in this game i myself played with the standard gun only and managed to defeat the game on regular, with just the extra healthpoint artribute, when you are able to parry most pink objects you Will exponentionally play better cuz of the super meter advantage

This game is very hard. I play with my son and the only thing that stops us from playing every time is frustration from beating a level or boss. Even on simple difficulty, it is challenging. We just beat the flower boss after many tries on simple. You get to a point in the fight where he starts launching so many little enemies at you that you barely have any time to attack him because you are too busy fending off all the little bugs going after you! But I like challenging games so I would rate 5/5. Younger group like my son may find it just too frustrating.
Frothing at the mouth for this is an understatement. So glad this came over from Xbox. Now only if Behemoth would bring their games also. Great run through! Cemented my purchase even further.
Brilliant game. It makes you wonder if the games current update on PC and other consoles (being able to play mug man) was thanks to our coming to the switch.

The only run and gun I,'ve ever played is Contra and Super C on the NES, but this looks super good and it looks like I need to pick it up now lol.

I have both the Xbox One & Switch. I am definitely going to pick this game up but not sure for what system I should get it for yet!
I would buy it on Switch no difference between both versions and the switch is portable.

Amazing game, wanted this since it was announced for PC. Will pick it up once I've played through my to-play list of games I currently own.
Brilliant game. It makes you wonder if the games current update on PC and other consoles (being able to play mug man) was thanks to our coming to the switch.

I noticed less enemies in certain areas. I found myself saying hey where's the blah blah thats supposed to be here. It's a small thing....but i was noticing it. I've had it on XB since day one....i know the patterns & some "badies" are missing

Boss Transitions seem quicker as well. I mean it still has it's difficulty. But i noticed a lil more help
