That was a strong Sevilla team he just toyed with. The Barcelona of that era simply was out of this world. Solid in every aspect of the game, no weakness. I don't think there will ever be a team like that, matched only maybe by the Brazilian National team of 1970 world cup.
That Brazilian team of 1970 wouldn't be anyway near the standard of that Barca team. Likewise Pele wouldn't make it with Barca of today. Messi is and for many years to come the GOAT.

That is the biggest joke in history(at least football history).
If you see him from the beginning of his career,in the first three,four years he was more like Mbappeplayer,but with much more "changing direction" moves,and the ball was like glued to his feet, but I think you understand my point,he was explosive player.
Then,in the next couple of years he became more complete,and learned to balance his strength,pace,power, using when its matters,and learned how to avoid the injuries that bothered him when he was younger.
Next,he became the super goalscorer,that the world will never see again, scoring with almost all parts of his body,and in such a spectacular ways and different forms(even and with the head-his weakest side-not that he doesn't head the ball well,but it is simply because of his height and even more because of the way Barca play,they play high crosses very rare).
Then in the years coming he became the best playmaker in the world,plus still scoring a lot of goals, becoming Sinisa Mihajlovic in free-kicks,Iniesta in through balls,Xavi in overall playmaking...it is known that penalties are one of the worst parts(the word worst almost doesn't exist in his vocabulary)of his game,but even with that,when he scores a penalty,he is the only player which make it to look like an art.
Also when he decide to take the ball from an opponent, there is not better defender in the world...
In my opinion, the worst thing in his play is that he can not to CLONE himself at all positions... :-D

yo, that first goal by Messi was one of the best of his career. A perfect volley from outside the box, running the other direction, surrounded by 3 defenders after a perfect header to control and set up the chance, and the goalkeeper doesn't move. The four Sevilla players literally couldn't have played that any better and he beat all of them anyways.

Interesting to see how deep he was dropping to pick up the ball even way back then.Difference is probably that the team didn’t depend solely on that to create like these last few years.If anything he was probably dropping back to be the extra mid when they were in possession.So many creative midfielders on the pitch who’d be able to create an opening in the opponent’s half which is something Barca has been lacking for a couple of years now. Everything he’s perfected today,he was doing back then just not constantly & consistently as he’s doing these days.The most complete forward the game has ever seen.
