agreed.
So true i think too its so unreal since your brain process thoses noises and supresses it

nah. Have you noticed how a sweaty mouth breathing neckbeard like you doesn't hear the obnoxious pulls of air you take, but others around you do? @TukihaMaza
@@TukihaMaza you hear your own heartbeat? i doubt it even though its audible in your ears all day
slow walking should be the quietest movement. Crouch walking is difficult.
Its about balance. Crouching is slower than walking therefore it should be quieter. Its a game at the end of the day realism isn't always the best.
@@AllHighAustin Why do I dehydrate and starve to death in 40 minutes!? There is a butt load of "unrealistic" things in this game. So if they are going for "realism" they are failing. It's weird to just pick and choose what to be realistic with, but make my guy sound like a bowling ball. Just allow someone to stick their thumb in as well please. Tight squeeze would be appreciated.
Yeah slow walking should be dead silent but crouch walking should have sound since the trade off is that you're a smaller silhouette
@@AllHighAustin Crouching also gives you better recoil control and can make you harder to see or better protected by cover. Crouch walking everywhere to be quieter just feels silly.
100% This is one of the biggest fallacies of fps games.
I do like how active they have been lately trying to fix bugs quicker, rather than leave it for months

i have to literally stop what im doing and take off my headset irl any time the plane comes, it is so ear piercingly loud
you should have heard it before LOL. They turned it down a couple wipes ago.
Why are you blasting your ears with max volume 120db straight into your eardrum
@@VulcanM61 i dont play on max volume lmfao
I’m new this wipe. It scared the shit out of me the first few times I heard it 😜
@@ColdSteel-dz3pfit used to be so loud you couldn’t hear your own footsteps, could set your headset down and walk to the other end of your house and you’d think someone was using a white noise machine in your room
as long as we can hear people do anything from 30+m away, the statue meta will never go away. I feel like these changes are a step in the right direction but they really should put the maximum distance you can hear an enemy player moving to 30m or something like that.
Then they could also reduce the volume of the friggin ambient sounds because that stuff is ridiculous. Hearing a cricket rave going on outside while I'm in the middle of an ultramall makes no sense.
I can hear people from 20m in real life in the city (basically the same backround wind noise of eft) so I'm pretty sure you can hear much further with those fancy headsets. But I agree that the ambient noise is very loud for a desolate area.
ADS needs a big drop. Cycling a bolt should not be in the middle range of the sound of moving arms. It feels wonky
nah ads sound is great, gives you a chance against a camper.
@@thisnameistemporary6434extremely unrealistic so it’s dumb
@@cardboard_shaft bye bye all healing items.

Good video dude, kudos to Tower too for the assist.
Grey zone content been addicting too and I can hardly wait for public access.
I've been playing this game a long time and I'm honestly just becoming very exhausted having to deal with this janky sound all the time. Pretty much every other game on the planet the sound makes sense. You just play, hear a thing, and react to it. Tarkov its like 50 layers of having to remember all of this dumb shit cuz none of it makes sense, and god forbid if you make a sound 50 miles outside a building. Everyone from the basement to the 4th floor will hear your ass and either become a statue or come execute you. Sorry for the rant, I just really like this game, its honestly one of my dream games, but its death by a 1000 lashes dealing with all of its issues sometimes
All I know is I can't hear anything over my own walking or running the minute you start moving it all you hear
You are trully a chad, providing us this content. No wonder your subscribers raised, happy to see results since I remeber when your videos had just a little audience. Keep it up G!
smaller radius sounds promotes more pvp. and fights where both sides are more likely to be unaware. GOOD for game
Nope, what this game needs is more, definite sounds at slightly lower range while increasing those subtle sounds in volume, while also adding sound cues so campers can be heard as well. This way you can still sneak around, but you'll have to be careful at longer ranges and you can't just stop like a statue and wait for someone without that someone being aware. This'll promote PvP because there's really nothing you can do if you got caught with your pants down.
@@JustASuscriberif the radius for sounds is smaller, it doesn't matter what volume the sounds are to people outside the radius either way. If the pop bug is eventually fixed, it'll be the radius of the normal sounds like walking/running, reloading, aiming, etc. that let people know how close someone will be. Assuming they're not broadcasting their location with shots, you won't be able to turtle up and camp before the person coming your way even gets within 60m
You’re awesome man. Thanks for these quick patch updates!
Thanks AirWing and Tower, GREAT content for the community!
Thanks for update video on sounds. I haven't confirmed this, but I think the maximum hearing distance is now limited over all. On woods, before sound changes, I could hear people fighting sthurman from scav bridge. Now when I spawn over there I hear nothing toward sawmill. But as soon as I pass sunken city going toward mountain, all of the sudden I start hearing his shots and players grenades. Again I have not proof but I'll check it out more next time I get in game.
love how I could IMMEDIATELY tell that's tower in the thumbnail
Headsets realistically should like this, provide an audio profiles that differ between headsets but not randomly amplify sounds of just certain things like footsteps. They are to get rid of ambient sound and protect your hearing from gunfire.
This game made me question my understanding of headsets. "Realistic"
good video as always
Appreciate it!
about the few meters more or less on audio distance 2m more or less radius actually makes a big difference: 27m*27m*pi = 2290m² vs 25m*25m*pi = 1963m². Thats only 2m more but 300m² more area that you can hear ppl.
Glad you guys got the data for the new audio. You guys were busy with GZW
I may have missed it, but I didn't see any mention of your perception level during testing, which would increase the radius you can hear. Out of curiosity, what is your perception level? I would love to see an anecdotal test using an SJ12 to see if it actually made a difference in your testing.
The final fix was for the issue where if you looted a container, the audio would be played for the last container that you looted in the raid, so if you looted a PC, it would play jacket audio if you looted a jacket before looting that PC
I saw the first update, didn't see the second change to sound but thought it felt different in game. I was seeing people I thought I would normally hear after the first update, obviously I couldn't hear it though. About the same distance with different headsets. It felt rather good actually having them like this. Where it is right now I mean.
Did you testing how far someone can hear opening your inventory? For three patches now its been completely silent but they have added it back two patchs ago you could hear it at 23m but i wonder if thats changed with the latest patch.
The headset change is actually huge!
How does the change to the loudness of the sound on different surfaces affect covert movement? Is there sound reduction to the uncommon and common surfaces only if covert movement has been levelled or does it not apply any sound reduction?
I chased 4 PMC’s that I never found all because they sounded like they were right next to me. Customs is only so big it was like they disappeared. But I could hear them.
I'm still unsure why there is even an audio sound for ADS in this game. I get maybe from a sprint, out of breath, or with a heavy gun, but the fact that I've lived in mortal fear of ADS or losing arm stamina and having to lower my weapon for a billion wipes now is just absured. There just is almost no firearms that makes such an obnoxiously loud sound just to ADS. The number of times I've heard someone ADS (but not footsteps) give away their positions from some random room or a million miles away was wild. God forbid you ADS while everyone is listening for sound ques in a fight...might as well just start VOPing at that point.
Interchange undergrond ambient is almost dead silent. May be a good place for further audio tests.
Walking and slow walking audio need a reduction in hearing distance for sure. Sprinting seems ok with those numbers.
Just for reference - did you test if the "Covert Movement" skill actually did something?
Completely agree with you Marine,...audio MUST be fixed,. I hope this is a step in the right direction.
"nobody is NOT wearing headsets". Im glad you guys are still testing no headsets for the control. I have a friend who is a cheap bastard and he rocks no headsets and damages his hearing in his real life ears to save pretend rubbles
lol, your friend sounds like one of those people who ends the wipe with a stash full of gear and roubles that they were too afraid to use for months on end. Tell your friend that their hearing is a valuable thing to protect, and even if they don't want to spend imaginary in-game money on earpro, to cut their fucking volume down at least.
Sincerely, from someone who has military-grade Tinnitus after years of working around loud machinery, shooting firearms and listening to loud music. Shit sucks.
@@connerhodgkins3617haha bro you already know those standard issue USEC m4's collecting dust in a 100% capacity EOD stash
I noticed that wind did nothing to hide the footsteps. Strange that you can hear so far... I feel this is more like super-human hearing, than realism.
Tower! Hope hes doing well havent talked in years but i used to snipe with him
Maybe this go prone/ from prone movement could has option taking more time and less noise
Is it common knowledge that it never get mentioned that the hearing distance is also different depending in which direction you look?
I see it never get mentioned? I think it was like 50% distance if the sound is behind you but I'm not sure if the angle change depending on the headset.
Keep it up air wing! You’re doing the lords work!
Always!
Biggest issue I think I have noticed is no longer be able to hear gun shots/fights over a certain distance. Mentioned a few times to squad players that the map is very quiet and to go several hundred metres to find a massive fight has taken place and we never heard a thing.
When I play with duos, one of us will hear shots and the other won't ALL the time...
I think it's more of a bug with oculus audio than it is some distance parameter.
Do you think some of the changes without headsets on will have helped helmets without compatibility with earpro?
11:43 that's exactly what a personal preference is lmao
See this is where headsets should vary. Example comtach 4s could have the furthest distance to hear running, but sordins could be louder when it comes to close distance crouch walking.
I had some of the worst audio experience after that patch. Two enemys spirted in front of me without any footset and their gunfire made no sound. One man shoot his axmc on the top of stronghold and I can only hear the bullet impact despite I'm just on the first floor. I don't know what BSG did but they made audio very buggy. Anyway thanks for the test, we really appreciate this kind of content!
Awesome testing & presentation 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
@Airwingmarine one small problem with the test. What's the perception level. I think that is for sure something that should be factored in. Just for a base line
We don't even know if it works properly.
And if it does, in the grand scheme does it matter of the distance is 12.5m vs 15, or 55 vs 60?
You are not out there measuring distances for audio between fights or when you move.
the past week i have had more organic gunfights where both myself and the enemy were surprised to see each other. The game has been way more fun since silent crouching bug was taken out.
Thank you
You are welcome!
I love how they repeatedly fail to address audio issues after years of development
Here is my take: slow walking should be the quietest movement, not crouch walking. From a balance perspective, crouching already gives you two big benefits. It makes your character hit box smaller and it greatly increases recoil/accuracy. Therefore, receiving stealth while crouched just makes it too good. Slow walking should be completely silent to allow for faster offensive out maneuvering.
where can we get that google doc of your test results?
Speaking of "adding complexity AFTER the foundation is in place" ... they need to remove headsets entierly until sound is in an ACCEPTABLE state, then add them back in
Much better!
I hope BSG keep this up, keep the changes coming and listening to the players. If they keep it up like this a lot of grievances will be squashed.
They cannot listen to players, they have sound issues, bro.
Since last update I can't ear nothing footsteps only when their already in front of me and if I'm running barely can ear anything
Crouch walking should be 3 meters, and full sprint should be 30 meters.
posted 25s ago..last time I was this early I was still dissapointing my girlfriend
It's a sign of love
And you still are
How have these audio changes effected sound dampening helmets? I might be the only person on the entire NA server that still wears altyns but I'm wondering if this closes the gap a little and is a net positive for my playstyle
what about hearing through walls or hearing outside from inside buildings?
I am close to happy with the distances. The slowest 1/3 movements could get another 15% reduction. I am good with walking and running.
Thank god for Comtact 4 update. Best update Ive seen
this video just confirmed how bad my hearing is lol
Damn they really backpedaled on those changes quick. 😂 Glad to see it tho. I haven't gotten to play basically at all this wipe cause Tarkov nuked my CPU cooler at the beginning of the wipe and it was out of commission for a few months. Glad to see them trying to make good on some long standing issues and try new stuff. Seemed like they were so afraid to work on the audio at all for a while there. Lots to do still like you said, but it's a good direction at least, which is more than I feel like we can usually say for changes. 😂
I don't see them as a backpedal so much as just setting the adjustment bars to the max, then tuning them to a spot bit by bit.
@@Airwingmarine That's fair. You kind of explained that in the video as well. Like, find a good baseline first, then fine tune after the baseline is good across the board. I think in the past they have tried to fix too much at one time with the audio which usually just leads to new issues and not much in the way of "fixing" it. Fingers crossed they take it slow and steady with this one. 😩
The new audio is great in my opinion. Im creeping up on 1000 hours in this game and this is my first wipe. I only play factory and not worrying about people hearing me ADS or shuffle from across the map is nice. Ive moved more in the last week than ever
I still think ADS is too audible, but the other changes are a good step.
the thing that would fix all of this is the elimination of the perception skill and sneaking skill. The sounds should be a default setting. If you want to sneak quieter, it should be a mechanic. Key binds that you hold or have to implement that would make you quiet. You should also be quieter with less gear. Gear makes you noisy. Rough objects clanging and rubbing against other gear does make a lot of noise. Slimming down and going light can be an advantage. Headphones do enhance your hearing, but it shouldn't be that much. That slow walk shouldn't even be audible until 14 meters, and it should barely be audible at that point if that. Regular walking toned down to 20meters (no headsets). All those settings bumped up slightly higher with headsets, but not much
I'm so far liking the audio changes before when I heard people walking/running example customs from behind the wall i thought they were just behind it/on the road meanwhile they're in the trees close to the hill (side closer to the river) like whaaat? You were able to hear things way to far away for sure
One day it's this, log on 2 days later it's different. No info leads to frustration. BSG give if you are watching this video - give us an in game msg. You have that in game already, just use it.
I,m kinda happy about the headset changes, except for the 8 Comtac 4s I have sitting in my stash that I've been sniping off flee for cheaper and saving to run later on... But I guess that's why hording in this game rarely works out, for all you know next patch the gear you were saving will become obsolete
did anyone buy comtac4's for range? Personally i think thee sound profile is whats op. It silences all the ambient sound basically
The interchange event is also over
Nevermind still going on
Now that you can’t sneak, everyone just sits and hold angles. At least you had a way to combat against their camping when the sneak was silent.
I honestly think they should increase the running hearing radius but the slow standing walk is wayyy too loud.
Youre smoking CRACK dude. Absolutely no way. I can hear sprinting unrealistically far away.
Agreed BSG need to simplify more features like ammo and armor especially with arena.
The Range for Running should not be reduced, it should be increased. Its does not work with most of the maps because there are so many angles, there will be always someone who runs behind me and i'm dead because i cant hear him. Otherwise people will start to sit in Holes and start not moving again. Same if i run around and i can hear someone 100m away, i have enough Cover to look for plan b. When i'm just 60m away, maybe it already to late and i'm running into a deadend.
i was scared to crouch walk and see ADS is 25 meters.
These values seem good
but like sordins are kinda good still, maybe m32 and hssz are gonna have more difference then the comtac4?
Did they fix audio pop? Thats the big problem of Tarkov audio, am not playing atm thats why i ask.
I really wish one wipe without headsets,
i really think headsets fuck this game up
Thanks
welcome
I've had substantially lower amounts of audio pops after this patch. So much better since everyone just stops and waits as soon as they hear it.
I do wonder if that has to do with the reduced audio range or maybe something with tweaking the headsets.
Been having a lot of horrible audio in reserve ever since this little patch, can’t hear any foot steps on different rooms despite being in the same building, also on the bunker, can’t hear people at all
Reduce rain/airplane/reserve alarm sound by 80% when?
So walking is still pointless because for some reason it basically has the same radius as running. Did get a buff to crouch walking though which is cool.
The ridiculous range at which you can hear people on tarkov has always been the strangest thing about the game for me.
I heard someone walking 100 meters from me in the grocery store the other day
I don't think the distance would be as big of a problem if the occlusion didn't suck in Tarkov.
Even with a headset irl you can’t hear 60 m out. Just don’t make sense
For the most part you are right. Regardless of what happens IRL though, long range hearing like we have is bad for the game IMO.
50m hearing footsteps without headset. superhuman i guess
I’m confused. What’s the point of walking at minimum speed if you make the same sound as walking at maximum speed? This makes walking slowly basically redundant.
And our own pmc movement sound is also too damn loud!(to ourself) I wish they reduce that, and people will be willing to move more for sure.
Tbh i am not scare of enemy hearing my footsteps, im more scare of my own footsteps 😂
I get that something’s are overly loud but the fact people are still complaining about the crouch walk bug. I miss the days of this game when people actually wanted to fight not crawl around and sneak around
even tho im a notorious meta gamer in terms of headset never really doing raids without Comtac 4s this is a good change, hearing people 20m or more further than the second best headset is kinda fucked u have time to react and aim without the other guy even knowing ur there.
at the same time im kinda mixed on it so few people where using C4s so it feels bsg is just rewarding people who dont dare to spend money on thier kits. but in general it will be a good change, ratting with C4s was so fun tho gonna miss the range.
iv never been this early holy
It's pretty much like silent crouch walking never went away now. It was a blessed few days after the 1st patch though. Nobody could reposition quietly which is the biggest problem with quiet crouch walking imo, games back to being full rat fest again.
In complete honesty I think they WANTED this to happen. I think there is a disconnect in what Nikita is wanting for the game(he didn't even know silent walking was still in game and labeled it as a bug) and what the people still working on it want. NOBODY was asking for all the additional changes that would without a doubt resonate negatively within the tarkov community, therefore giving them the "justification" to roll the patch back to where people can silent move in the game again. The only thing people wanted was for silent crab walking to not be a thing. As to why the developers would do this, I'm not sure, but it's pretty obvious Nikita doesn't have the final say in anything going on at BSG.
Ive learned over the years that the audio in eft only gets worse. At this point just leave it like it is
Is ADS completely silent now? I never hear anyone ADS anymore
Quite the opposite. It's louder than a lot of other movements.
Not sure how common this is but my traders have been bugged for like a week, can’t buy anything cause it says I don’t have the required items when I have enough money

@@aleseaux thank you🤝do you know what would’ve caused it to turn off? I don’t think I did anything odd while buying meds before it happened
@@Elbungito Could have been anything from a misclick, to a client issue, to an update issue. Tarkov is surprisingly variable with how many ways it can fail, just as surprising as how many ways you can have fun.
I much prefer if you was allowed to move silently doing the slowest walk but only if you was underweight. If I weight 60kg with 5 guns and 2 sets of armour on my back then yeh sure maybe I should be easy to hear regardless. But so people still can go stealth and play the way they prefer. I love sneaking up in players, it is the only thing that keeps tarkov fresh during a wipe.
