- So...do you remember the story that was flying around the internet about Tony Dow (TV's Wally Cleaver!) getting his car back? The first car that he ever bought? It was a 1962 Corvair and Dow purchased the car in 1961. He drove the car daily to the Universal Lot while he was working on Leave it to Beaver!
Well...after 7 years of sitting in a garage...WE HAVE A PRETTY COOL UPDATE!
I still watch the show, July 31, 2022. Thanks Tony and the rest of the cast for a great family oriented show. R.I.P Tony.
👍👍😊
Very heavy on family oriented, the older shows such as Leave It To Beaver and shows alike are the only shows worth watching these days. Modern so called shows of today are totally crap that belongs in the garbage.
@@NLINE7 leave it to beaver was during a time when you could be proud to live in america
Every chance I get i watch it also love the 1st one's when they were very young
I do as well thanks to my METV channel. My day isn't complete unless I watch an episode. Rest in peace Tony.
It is so obvious how nice and down to earth of a guy Tony was. Really wish I could of been friends with him. I saw another video of Tony walking from his garage ; he even walked the same that he did when he was 13. What a great cool guy. Bless you Tony, and all of the great memories you left everyone.
Tony Dow sure was a good fellow. I still watch Leave It To Beaver every morning here in Bartlett Tennessee...such a good show
Always like Tony Dow, wish we had seen more of him post Beaver.
Theres a list in his bio of all the shows he was in after Leave It To Beaver.
I love Tony Dow aka wally. He was such an awesome actor & a big brother every child would live to have. Thank you for all the wonderful shows you & the beaver done along with ward & June. Such a wonderful family & wonderful actors & actresses on leave it to beaver. Still watch old re runs today. Thats a great looking car for that time of yesr.
RIP Tony....you will be missed....
Its something special to have a memory of when we were younger and life was fun & carefree
Thats why iI still watch " beaver " reruns to this day.
Good luck with the corvair, Tony
Tony, I hope you had many opportunities to enjoy tooling around town in your old Corvair with your wife before Heaven came calling. R.I.P. old friend.
Gee Walley, it runs! Hope you had great joy with this car. I miss my MGA so much I still dream of it, 50 years later.
Hopefully he got to use this machine a lot in his final yrs. RIP sir, you were a good influence on many young men.
I loved him as Wally Cleaver. He was truly a great actor. Thank you for Sharing this with us.
My childhood won't have been the same without Walley, Bev, Eddie, Ward and June.
Hey Toni, I still watch your program Leave it to Beaver!👍😆😆
That’s a great fun project. Thanks for the videos of Tony Dow.
When I was a teenager in 1969, worked a couple years in a VW shop. We also worked on a few corvairs.
Fabulous .... glad to be able to view this ! I grew up on "Leave It To Beaver" ! I was 12 in 1962 ... so, I was the right age to truly become one with the show.
funguy4utube I was 1.....
Wow!! What a guy for tracking you down to see if you wanted your original ride back! I can almost feel your joy over having it back. Best of regards to you!
Tony Dow love your car I always watched leave it to beaver for years you still great after many years wish it came back
Cool car with history ! But it was sure clacking away wasn't it !
We watch his show every week morning on METV. We are in late 70s and love it
The lifters always rattle loudly after they sit for a while, will usually quiet down after 20 minutes. Put some 81 Dodge van 'Gas Magnum' or equivalent front shocks on the rear to improve ride and handling. Nice car Tony, glad you saved it!
Tony and Lauren are such a cute couple
My father bought a Covair in '66 as a "go to work" car and let me use it for "dates", family errands etc. I was just 18 at the time.
Suited me fine!
Thanks for this video! Tony was as nice in person as He was playing a big brother to the world ! 👍👍🇨🇦
I have very fond memories of my grandfather's corvair. It had this very friendly sounding hum when Papa would change gears.
Such a great story, AND getting a piece of your youth back.
Funny mention on the fire extinguisher. My dads Corvair caught fire in the driveway when I was a kid. It was very exciting with the flames and fire trucks.
First car fire on our block I remember was an old Opal cadet wagon stall, backfire and then the engine compartment going up in 🔥 , passengers spilling out& FD responding
Awesome! Cool Spyder and cool Corvan shop rig!
The show was just great. Happy to see this video. Thank you
Tony Dow - still looking great after all these years! Oh yeah.. so is your car! LOL!!
I had a black Corvair too but it got towed away in NYC. 😭
Im glad to see she has the old plates still !!
When my son was in high school he bought a Corvair with one of the V8 modification kits in it. (I think these are nicknamed "water pumpers".) He described driving it as "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
America Missing You Mr Tony Dow 👏🙌👍I mean All AMERICANS !! You were what I wanted as a brother no matter what .So talented and humble ! You are the " MAN "
Great video - this is one of the turbocharged Corvairs!
Well gee Wally, That's a pretty swell car you got. Can you give me and Whitey a ride to school ?
Congrats Tony!
How exciting for you Tony!! Now you & your wife can enjoy a little fun from the past! Have fun you two!👏👏👏✌️♥️
You know you live in a huge city when there's a " mobile corvair service"
Oh MAN! The guy in the white Tshirt reminds me a lot of WALLY CLEAVER!! 🙏
Way da go Wally.
Rest in Peace Tony
🙏🌹💜🙏
Awesome Footage
WoW Great to get your First / Favorite car back ! !
Next - get it in the shop and paint it back to its original Midnight Blue paint. Then open another Bob's Big Boy, and you're in business.
You know something Beav. (What's that Wally?) Your really goofy😂 Love those 2 as kids. That's a good sounding motor too
Oh geeze! I had a corvair ,baby blue with white interior, convertible.. I loved that car!
I saw one of these Corvair Spyders at the drag strip in '65. It was out running GTO's!
Only people missing are Lumpy and Eddie. This takes me back to the final season of 'Leave It To Beaver'.
Well, If Eddy was there, They probably would needed the Fire extinguisher!
A little loud, but I suppose that's to be expected after six years of sitting. My mom had a '64 Monza convertible. She liked to do road rallies and I got to be her Navigator. Such good times. I'm currently working (slowly) on restoring a '65 Monza convertible. Can hardly wait to get it running and driveable.
After 6 years of sitting you mean after 60 years of sitting.
No, 6 years. Former owner had restored it, but had no driven it in 6 years. When he passed away, his friend contacted Dow and offered it back to him.
Tony Dow was a great 👍 guy ,he will truly be missed, loved the show as a kid had some great memories.
I bet the mechanic had to pinch himself, thinking, Hey,I'm working on Wally Cleaver's car! Hope I don't have to use the fire extinguisher. I don't want to goof it up and feel like a little creep!😆
He was a very good man and I still enjoy watching his work.
I'm 20 my parents age 63-64 use to watch the show as kids. And Everytime after college I come home and I flip the channel to antenna tv and I watch leave it to beaver. Early this year it use to come on around 11 am now it's on 1 pm...at least in florida, plantation. Not to also mention if I ever got a youtube reply from tony dow I'd be soo happy...even though he doesn't attract today's youth that much....to me he would cuz I still see him famous like people did over 50 years ago. Leave to beaver is an awesome show to watch when your eating captain crunch....or a peanut butter and jelly sandwitch. When you chew and watch the show at the same time...it relaxes you and makes you think. Me I try to figure out "ok what's going on in tony dows head as he's acting...or hugh beumont...whys he put his hands in his pocket as he talks....and why is this family soo innocent?!" lol Then afterwards I have supper...I wash it down with all in the family archie..."ay der edith!"
Well to you ain't a big deal, but if your someone who has never experienced the golden age of tv or cars it is.
Dave S. Hahaha, that's cool. Don't mind the hateful person.
Nice story, Joseph F. is just a 'dick'. He obviously grew up a Scumbag, living a terrible life so hates everyone.
R.I.P. Tony. I watch you every morning on MeTV !!! 2022 * you will not be forgotten !!
What a thrill for Tony to get his boyhood Corvair running again.
IKR?
I'm still sad about Mr. Dow's passing, but it's wonderful that he had shared some of his private moments like this with the world. Great video!
The Corvair - one of the most innovative American cars on the market back then. I'd love to have one, but prices on nice restored examples have gone up. Hope this car has a good home now.
I always thought Tony was Cool now I know He was Cool! R.I.P.WALLY
Living in the Northeast these cars were great driving in the snow because the engine was in the rear that provided great transaction.
As soon as video started ,I noticed the now rare Corvair van. My aunt had a Corvair back in the day.
I think it's great to know that Tony is a car guy!
RIP Wally. We miss you.
My mother brought a brand new 1962 red corviar. We were the envy of the block!
Hay,
My gloves off to David the Corvar mechanic. It takes a mechanic that has Corvar blood in them to work on Corvars. I've been a mechanic for 40 years and I just don't have the touch.
Note to those who are new to Corvars. I noticed that David's van is a Corvar too. Yes, Corvars came in many different kinds, vans trucks, 4 doors. You can see these on the net.
Gotta love the fire extinguisher...Just in case. Just like Ward would teach him.
I still watch the show. RIP to all the cast that have gone.🙏
Memories of this and Vw's on the road when I was a kid.I saw them everywhere, thing is this style
didn't compete with other cars in the 1960's.But the 1st car a teen would buy was usually a turn on.
So I wonder why he wanted this compared to other cars.
Great video! My stepmother had a 1965 Corvair. When the Feb. 9, 1971 magnitude 6.5 Sylmar quake hit, I went outside to see that the quake apparently bounced the Corvair from our slightly sloped driveway, out to the middle of the street. Still remember that as a 13 year old then.
It's a Corvair Spider
I had a 64 Spyder. That car was insane. I could beat anything that thought they could beat me. I often wonder how I have lived to 71.
@@rpm12091 Guardian angels!!
Gee Wally, if the show would have lasted another 5 years, you could be firing up a '68 Hemi Dodge Charger.
Strange motor layout. We road one across Florida. I looked up to Wally, he was of good character and very cool.
I love the fire extinguisher at the ready! 😂😂😂
Dave, you are the man!
Awesome! Love the show
That car was made for leaded gas put some lead additive to quiet the lifters.
We miss ya Tony. Never miss you on "Leave it to Beaver," on ME-TV. 9 Sep 22. Semper Fi
I really like the camera pan to the 3 Amigos working around the cement mixer... just brought in from the local Home Depot parking lot...
So happy for you, Tony. :).
Looking good
Nice to see Tony with the 'middle-aged spread' most of us get at his age. LOL!!!
Safe to say he's the only mobile Corvair business in America today.
Nice car Toni!!
Tony was a year older than me. All through "Beaver" I only had eyes for "Wally". SO good looking.
At one time, I had five Corvairs.
Eugh yuck
Leave it to beaver was a cool show to watch!
Before Tony died she will be missed.
My buddy's brother had two Corvairs and would drop us off at school. Both had next to no heat in cold days.
I like the sound of the car.
I learned to drive stick shift on the floor in a new white '63 corvair....lots of cruising miles downtown Albuquerque from Lionel's to A&W drive in.
GOOD JOB
Beautiful car. I'm glad to see that some moron did not put 30" GHETTO wheels on it.
RIP Tony Dow.
And just being tony dow! Imagine your first car and after seeing it after your youth blows you away. That be like me now driving a gold 95 saturn sl1 then God forbid if something happens to it I sell it then 2066 I get it back dows age....you gotta feel like your home. And it's gotta bring back memories!
Reminds me of George Costanza thinking he had Jon Voight's LeBaron.
Gotta love the Corvair
RIP, Tony
RIP Wally !
Ralph Nader was perched in a tree across the street, watching vigilantly, ready to pounce.
He now has silver hair and beard, but the voice is instantly recognizable! Cool car! That 180 hp turbo flat 6 in that little car really could fly!( I had the 4-carb 140 hp, and got up to 135mph... or so the speedometer SAID it did.) Althugh the SU carb was a stinker in cold weather.
early models didn't have 180 hp
@@plance1 The l80 was the turbo model.
seem like the mechanic was more happier than Tony Dow was seem like they was both happy to see that old girl purr like a kitty
Looks exactly like the 1958 Corsair my parents bought brand new.
Gee,Wally! It really runs!
God Bless your soul Tony
Mary Ellen Rogers in the back seat.
What a awesome car.
Tony Dow had a Corvair? And a turbocharged Spyder, at that? I would not have thought that it was possible, but he just upped his rep as far as I am concerned.
I remember that on the show he had a 10 year old Chevy convertible, I would have thought that he would have had a newer one in real life.
I have an original Corvair turbocharger emblem as you can see from my icon, removed from the vehicle 50 years ago in Culver City off Venice Blvd!
Oh my gosh my grandmother had a white 62 spider.
