  • Game of Thrones has produced some of television's most memorable characters, and even though some were brutally killed off without any warning, that didn’t stop die-hard fans from powering through its eight epic seasons.
Even characters who were brutally killed off after just one season, like Khal Drogo and Eddard Stark, left a big mark on the show. The character arcs in Game of Thrones are not for the faint of heart, but they did make for some great storytelling.
In honor of this great show and its complex characters, let's take a look at the various characters' endings on Game of Thrones, ranked from worst to best.

You know, Ned Stark was a major character in the show as well? Even if he lasted just one season, his death was probably the one with the most impact overall. And at that time in the show, his death was a real shocker.

I actually think Margaery is ranked far too low on this list. She was a fan favorite character ( certainly my favorite) and it certainly hurt to see her go, but her storyline came to its natural conclusion. Her arc was entirely to serve as a foil for Cersei and as her competitor for influence over Cersei’s children, which she did perfectly. But when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die, and there was no way both her and Cersei could remain in competition forever. At the time of her death, both were on the cusp of achieving victory over the other, Margaery by having Cersei tried and stripped of her power and Cersei by...ya know...blowing up the Sept. It was a do or die situation for both of them, but just because Cersei was the victor doesn’t mean Margaery’s story didn’t end satisfactorily.

IMO, i don't think how the show ended is the problem, it's how quickly it happened. In a show built on characterization where you grow to love characters through their quirks and funny musings that happen while traveling to places, the speed of the last two seasons doesn't match the pace set previously by the show. People are literally teleporting around and everything is just too rushed. The last two seasons could've easily been spread out over 3-4.

@@nickolausafon5458 I don't think anyone would have minded if the characters died. As you say, the show goes out of its way to demonstrate how, at any time, these stories can be cut short.
The issue I and a lot of others have is that this style of storytelling, the kind the show was built on, ended up getting replaced in a way that intelligence was replaced with plot armour and teleporters. The show could easily have gone on at least a few more seasons (in my mind, the Long Night should have _been_ a full season!), but D&D, in an effort to 'wrap things up' and move onto their Star Wars project (which got scrapped anyway), decided to end it in the least satisfying way possible.
Seriously, it's like they just fast-forwarded through so much of the story (Dany's descent into madness) or just decided to shuffle characters around to make things go faster or to 'divert expectations' (Arya killing the Night King)

Best Death? My man Sandor Clegane. Every one talks about Jaime's growth over the seasons but The Hound was a complete evolution. Still brutal but we saw so much underneath. We saw him actually develop a devotion and find purpose outside his revenge. I would've loved to see him live, heading west with Arya or heading north as Sansa's Queens Guard. It seemed only fitting he be that Father-esque figure but I was thrilled to see his original plotline (revenge on the Mountain) come full circle.

@@xpertrex5991 I agree with @jason rowlette, some of the things she did even if they were done to bad people showed that she was cruel. she was obsessed with getting the iron throne even know she was a baby when she lost it. she had so much power and love in Marine where she should of stayed. The hate she received in Westeros’s and the jealousy she had towards John pushed her over the edge even before kings landing and considering she lost everyone she really loved prior to the flight in kings landing. So in’s saying she didn’t go mad out of no where, It was build up over time, you just have to look deeper at the things she did in previous seasons. A good example was when she crucified all the wealthy in one of the city’s to prove a point to show no mercy, that’s in season 4 or 5 I’m pretty sure.

I was seeing hints as early as Season 2. By the first episode of Season 8, I already knew she was going to go crazy and do something insane.

@@anthonymerino4689 Let's go live with the natives and pick fleas off of each other's bodies as we die at ages 35-40 as we send all of our high-tech ships into the Sun.... What could be wrong with that ending. All of this done with everyone agreeing to the "brilliant" idea of living primitively. Sarcasm intended. GoT's, Battlestar Galactica and the new Star Wars sequels all ended poorly.

And as far as Jaime's death goes people keep going on and on about how his arc was wasted Don't they realize That cersei was his addiction.
. The queen of Thorns said it to him Right before he gave her the poison she's a disease she's going to be the end of him She just called it right out right there Of course he's going to go back to her because it's his addiction and sometimes in life when you have an addiction and beat it... You relapse!

The Cersei part isn’t even the worst part of Jaime’s ending, that goes to “I never really cared about the innocent” or whatever that line was.
Jaime forgave Cersei so much on the show it was kind of obvious he’d go back to her. D&D seemed to love Jaime and Cersei together.

I was fine with how the things ended especially with Jon and Danny. The delivery of it was rush and terrible. I had issues with how the Night King ended in the timeline. OK fine with Aria killing him but why in the 3rd episode why not in Kingslanding after YEARS of building up. We never knew his origins or who he was alive among the Houses or what was the meaning of the spiral designs of dead body parts and the Children of the Forest connections. Bran didn’t make sense either why was the Night King after him? What did Bran knew about the Night King? Too many loose ends and ridiculously rushed because D&D wanted out. HBO should have changed directors to save the show.

How Ned Stark and Tywin Lannister aren't on this list is beyond me. Or anyone from the Red Wedding, for that matter. Seems like the only characters here are those you could get footage for.
