I checked these houses of character myself and read more into the topic. There is a small Italian city that has problems with a lack of citizens, so a bunch of old empty houses are sold for €1, with a condition in the contract requiring the buyer to renovate the property within a certain time, but then you have yourself a cool unique old house for probably still a very very decent price. Kudos to whoever thought of that idea. PORCO DIO!
Paying a visit to those houses would be a really cool experience judging from the photos. Also, the Outlast references Anomaly made are spot on. Some of those buildings look like actual asylums than houses.
Considering the current house prices, that's not even that bad. I mean, if you buy an intact house (not even a nice one), you probably pay like 500K-1M. A nice one maybe at least 1M. So it's not especially these houses that have a ridiculous price, it's homes in general. edit: well, I'm taking that back. I was only half through the video.
@@wrgsf13 Personally on where i live (Greece), an old house here built in the 70s or so in a great condition, it's around 40k-100k (if not more depending on the seller and it's house condition) to buy it so seeing such house prices in Malta and seeing the condition they are in which imo is horrendous, it's mind blowing considering Malta and Greece are kinda close but anyways, different countries, different rules and prices so yeah
The High prices are not justified buy the condition of the building but by the Land that they are built on, if its a large plot of land it will be worth a lot of money, especially if you are able to get permits for apartments, to buy a 3 bedroom apartment that is about 150 square meter its anywhere from 250k to upward of 1mill depending on location
Can confirm that the prices were high 10 yrs ago when I visited Malta. It's small, not a lot of bldg projects. They have a low-tax environment and lots of EU folks go there to work for banks and casinos, or to holiday. The houses are cheaper on Gozo island, but most of the work is on Malta.
honestly, if I had any funds to just throw away, and the knowledge on what to do, buying one of these things would be a really fun project to renovate, and the ghosts that haunt these houses would be a nice bonus, a free friend.
