    I was a freelance graphic designer and illustrator on the Pinkie Cooper project! • @melonleaf245
      @melonleaf245 Před měsícem +1

      @@candy-kp8bbnot a weird question at all! I did a four year bachelor of design program at a university but there are lots of options for college and online schooling nowadays! I also recommend networking as much as you can because I get all my clients through word of mouth or through other clients. Finally, the last piece of advice I have is put the type of work you want to be doing in your portfolio so that you can attract the type of clients you want and get paid to do the type of work you want. It’s totally okay to create your own personal projects or mock client projects in your portfolio when you’re starting out.
      Expect your pay to be lower in the beginning but once you get more experience, you can charge more. You can also find salaried positions, which is what I recommend to aim for when starting out so that you can learn how the industry works and get some experience under your belt before being a freelancer. Hope this was helpful and good luck! ❤

    A little fun fact, the sweet themed Kuu Kuu Harajuku dolls sadly ended up being unreleased. And that the show ended off with a cliffhanger. It would have been nice for the series to come back for a 4th season given how the later 2 seasons changed the series from it's OG premise that season 1 had and that the animation also changed and to many, improved from it's flaws. And that season 1 aired out of order when it aired on Nickelodeon in the US.

Yeah, they were corny and reeked of “WE DOES THE HIPPIDY HOP MUZAK” but compared to Barbie’s “one/two/three Black woman limit, and she’s the doll equivalent of perfection.” as a black person I thought they were stupidly charming. *AT LEAST THEY CONSULTED SOMEONE.*

      I’ve just started collecting (I’ve always loved researching fashion doll history but I’m more interested in collecting bjds and vintage dolls) so I’ve heard of all of these except that one scented doll line that isn’t yummilicious (though I saw the art for them on a doll collecting blog some time ago, it’s so cute!) and I love Tessa’s videos on dolls as well! Her production value and dedication to researching dolls really astonishes me and she does such a favor to the doll collecting community and for nostalgia lovers in general

    My main gripe with dolls, no matter which line, is articulation. If it doesn't have at least 9 points of articulation (head, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees) I refuse to buy any.
    One of the things I hated as a kid was not being able to sit my dolls on a chair or pose them and it really grinds my gears what barbie has done with the fashionistas, which is their most diverse and affordable doll line.

    I'm familiar with a lot of these. Here is a story I have for each some:
    Trollz: I never had the dolls, but I distinctly remember the promo for the cartoon. There was a clip of the goth one saying "Come here, ya' wingnuts", and for some reason my younger brother quoted that for months afterwards, cause he thought it was so lame.
    Ty Girlz: I never had one of these, although I still see them in thrift stores. What nobody seems to talk about is that TY had fashion dolls before these ones. Beanie Kids and Beanie Boppers. I had tons of those growing up, and I remember them being very popular with my friend group. They sold fashions for them, and they were better than Groovy Girls because the beans in their butts meant they could sit on their own. Some of the names were definitely re-used for Ty Girlz because I had a Beanie Bopper named Dazzling Destiny.
    Soda Pop Girls: I had the strawberry one. I also had a styling head of one of these, but my brother wrecked it lol :(
    La Dee Da: I still see this in thrift stores all the time. Their hair and clothes are super cheap and crappy.
    Ku Ku Harijuku: I was too old for these dolls, but I did have the perfumes. And also, Gwen had a line of dolls before this based on the same characters and music videos. I used my birthday money to buy one and still have her :)
    Flavas: I know these dolls are not super well liked for a variety of reasons, but I will say I've gotten some second hand and they really are very nice quality dolls. Their hair especially is so good. And hip hop was so huge at this time I don't think it was a terrible concept. It just wasn't executed that well.
    Secret Central: I had the cheerleader one. Got her at Giant Tiger as a kid, which is a discount grocery store here in Canada. I never played with it much or bothered getting any of the others. Looking back, these dolls are pretty ugly.

    It's actually so strange about Flava's, because I still to this day remember the ad campaign and song, so god they must have been pushing the line hard (the jingle from my memory : what's your flava... tell me what's your flava? change your style, your attitude... your flava is always you~) . Mind you, I was bought two Flavas that Christmas, however I remember the displays being rather full. So there's a good chance they were discounted even by Christmas. Shame they never lasted. I loved those dolls.
