that's a nice guitar you have right there Goku
This is meth, kids. Don't touch meth. Stay in school.
LMAO! Excellent!!!
Nice rockabily tones as well as jazz.. Capable of good surfing sounds as well .I'm very impressed.
I never said that I didn't know what an archtop was, I agreed with him when he said it was loud acoustically.
I think he's mostly into rockabilly and similar and so reverb and delay are prominent (also some muted finger picking ) ... perhaps easing back on the reverb just for a minute could show the guitar's actual sound. There's something cool about this style of guitar when they attached a pick-up to the end of the fretboard (floating pickup) and ran the wiring under the pickguard. Something really historically interesting about it (ie, altering acoustic archtops to become electrics )
I like what he's playin.. it's cool.... that guitar sounds good acoustic
first of, this guy doesn't know how to play an jazz guitar. and yes, he has problems staying in rhythm.
second, every video he does has a ton of reverb. so, every video he does, can't help us.
peace and love from Serbia
hollow body guitars have a special sound that you can't get with a plane slid body no matter what yo do with your pickups/ effects. They are great for jazz and give some really cool effects to rock.
wow, that finish is gorgeous, i have a gretsch with a glossy finish, with this sunburst, but man, this guitar is beautiful.
Gretsch makes great guitars and this guys dad made the poster boy for birth control.
Jason starts playing and the ad "Pregnant and Confused?" comes up. Excellent.
Very cool guitar Jason. Gorgeous finish. Very odd construction.
What you gotta do guy, is run that thing through a fuzz box, get rid of the weak pickup, replace with Active EMG pickups, and most likely a floyd rose is needed for dive bombs.
I don't know if this guy is going to play some jazz, or take me to flavour town...
Yes it's very loud. Archtop guitars were originally designed with a sort of mandolin/violin body style and often played with big band/jazz settings.
yeah, this one is a hollowbody electric but gretsch sells and acoustic electric version of the same model.
incredible acoustic sound. No many examples posted like this for hollow or semi.
Thanks for posting this. It was the only audio example i could find of the G100CE. I have the non-electric, non-cutaway version (G100) and it really is a beautiful guitar and sounds great (although you will need to get it professionally set up as they sort of quickly chuck them out the door at the factory). The satin finish is so much nicer than the thicker poly that is on "cheap" guitars in this price range.
@OMERTA011 This is the kind of video that gets mistaken for good playing, because he seems very confident in what he's doing and saying. Steer clear of guys like this.
Holy smokes. This guy used to work at Guitar Center in San Marcos I believe. Hahah.
Look after "The Loar LH-350": it's nearly in the same price range (under 500 EUR, which is approximately 625 USD). I can recommend it! What I like especially about the Loar is that the nut width is 46 mm (about 1,8"). It has a floating Kent Armstrong humbucking pickup. They sell it at Thomann.de, for instance.
I thought this was a great demo, and the sound of that thing blew me away. BEFORE he played unplugged. The unplugged sound is just a wonderful bonus.
that guitar is beautiful
He plays in a surf band....hence a lot of REVERB! I think he is a great change of pace from the other instructors at NLG.
for the guy that asking which one to get.if you are an acoustic player i recomend this one on the video, dont get the 5120 because it is more of an electric guitar, its got a sound post so acoustically it doesnt resonate that much.for the guys critisicing the poor guy with the hair, just leave him alone;he`s a rocker and his doing the best he can;not eveybody is a jazz genious.remember there is always somebody better than you in every town.i will put all of my energy on my own self..
I want a hat like that!!
Agreed. But I don't own one of these bad boys, sadly, but I wish I did. It sounds like it's made especially for jazz, so I don't know how it would sound for other styles. For the specs, you can check out the Gretsch website and they should have some of the answers you're looking for.
Gretsch are so amazing.
@zeLudoo yeah this is what acoustics looked like before the dreadnought style came out they are not as loud, but they have amazing tone
WHOA! that dude looks gnarley
shaking on my belly... *clap*
shaking on my belly... *clap* *clap*
shaking on my belly... *clap*
shaking on my belly... *clap* *clap*
You get a nice dollop of howling feedback when you turn them up
Great vid. that was very instructional. It's cool when you see a vid on different guitars broke down like that.
Nice work.
could you put like an acoustic pickup on this aswell to kinda get the best of both worlds?
Once again, you create some great videos good sir. Great style, haters need to chill.
I've been looking for the right Gretsch for months, and instead of spending loads on a falcon, I may give a new syncro a go & in black. This video has been of great assistance.
I don't think you mentioned the woods are laminates not solid wood.
Most of the playing on this video seems to use right hard damping on the strings. It was pretty hard to get any idea of the tone of this guitar from this video.
so... is this guitar kinda electric-acoustic or electric with a hollow inside?
man I wish they made all of the Korean imports with the non-glossy finish. that is the one thing that prevents me from buying one, I hate glossy finishes
JOHNNY BRAVO FTW!
How thick are the necks on those things? I hope they are on the thicker side. I hate rocker thin necks!!
I was going to get this, but then I went for a Godin 5th avenue Kingpin it is superior in every way totally amazing
It's like his mustache and beard are running away from his hair, and vice versa.
I love NLG's and all their videos... and I do honestly like Jason Lee's stuff... but it'd be really nice to hear him play something other than his bubble-reverb-style surf rock.
I think surf rock is really dated... and when you are trying to showcase a jazz-oriented guitar... it'd be nice to hear something a little more in the genre than surf rock.
Not to be condescending... it'd just be a nice change of pace.
@novanine9
Okay, that is pretty luxurious. Does it have a glossy finish? I played the version of this guitar without the pickup and it has one of those horrid satin finishes. If so (and even it it does have a satin finish) then GET THE HOFNER.
whats the neck like?
thick?
thin?
thanx
Can anyone tell me the upsides of one of these in comparison to, say, a 100% electric (solidbody electric guitar)?
thanks
GG: Gorgeous Guitar
I couldn't pay attention to anything he did or said. I just kept thinking he looks like the heat miser from rudolph the rednose reindeer. Kept hearing in my head the song he sings, "I am Mr heat Miser........... Sorry dude. But it is what it is.
I guess it comes down to personal choice but I think the White Falcon is a much better sounding guitar, this one sounds a little too "muddy" for me.
Does anyone know how high it's set up? Regular Gretsch, or really old jazzbox? I want an awesome slide guitar and I'm considering buying a G100 and mounting a P-90 to it, but I really want an old (style) jazzbox without having to sell all of my other guitars XD.And no store in Holland actually has one, so before buying without playing...... grtz, Laurens
he's over 9000!
Merci, -thanks for your review/demo
Does he realize that reverb has more control than just on/off?
Sterotypes are diabolical but they make people feel safe so they can pigeonhole people.
Anyway that nonsense aside,I love the guitar.I have 4 dreadnought acoustics so I was thinking about getting the one that you have..trouble is I don't play jazz but want to use it for playing pop, rock, etc. What do you think? Is the guitar suited for all styles? Also what width is the nut?.I need a fast low action neck ..not too wide becasue my hands aren't the biggest your likely to see. Thanks
Can you play with it as an acoustic ?
do the knobs not come in way when you're strumming hard?
damn... how much Gretsch guitars do you have?
@RelaxNplay64 I knew it , but I just wanted to know if with can play with it unplugged ,lol. But TY ;)
Any Django Reinhardt lessons with that guitar?
maybe someone that could play even the simplest jazz riff would be a good idea?
i love hollowbodys! I have never seen one that thick though (thats what she said) and what exactly is a satin finish?
nice guitar demo and super sayan 5 level
great demo!
Great demo. What strings are you running on there?
This guys hair, moustache and face are in constant conflict.
how much money does this guy spend on hair gel in one year? love it
I actually really like the reverb in there... hehe...
@peaces100 He says about 650 700
how man how do you style youre hair like this ?
good review thank you
oh my God! This guy makes Jedwood look positively normal. Is he their dad?
does anyone know the price of this guitar
thanks
ace video love this guy!
@dolphink13 without the cut-away too
niiiice acoustic sound!
Nice Job Flock!!
See ya at GCSM.
Nice vid
Man, how are we supposed to hear any tone from the guitar if all you play is palm muting through a wall of reverb?!
That thing is loud acoustically.
If it came through that clearly over the computer, I want to play one in real life.
hahahahaha it`s shaking in my belly, it`s shaking in my belly.
I want I want!
Nice hat.
what is with all the reverb?? back it off a bit for the love of god!!!
It is a nice guitar....where u find it?
Thanks,,,,,
holy ass hell i was not expecting that hair, i clicked the vid and was just like O_O yee haw
johny bravo aye!
Just when I thought this dude couldn't look any more preposterous, he breaks out the 1890s baseball player mustache.
@peaces100 I mean 650 - 700
If only hes spent as much time playing the guitar as he does on his hair every morning ...
Good!
This is what happens when Barbie has a baby with Jack Sparrow
punching that poor guitar makes me think I should adopt it and give it a good home.
ITS SHAKING IN MY BELLY!!
its a great artist.
even he looks like a msn emoticon
when he started playing with the tone up i literally laughed out loud... not that i can play better but is that how he feels like that guitar should be demonstrated?? i feel bad for the guitar, and i cringe every time he hits it to demonstrate that it's "completely hollow". You don't need to smack it, I believe you man!!
it means that there is no gloss finish whatsoever
Japanese made guitars happened to be better than americans one several times (look at the Squier Star JV made in 83-84).
Thanks for wasting my time, sir.
One can only imagine what the rest of his hair looks like.
