  • Hi
    There has been one thing that I was putting off since I returned from Spiti ride and that was ever buzzing speedo console at low rpm (uptil 4500 ) It got better after 5000 rpm but in traffic at lower speed it was robbing me of the peace of mind and hindering in the sheer enjoyment of this motor thumping with sheer rawness and the sweet exhaust note. To say the least the rattling was loud. Finally with spare time, i was running out of excuses to open it up and see what was the issue to try and fix. Besides the scraped up particulate matter was accumulating on the lenses.
    Glad I opend it up, and it was an easy fix too.
    Cheers :)

      Good one brother, you won't believe I had this problem in my himalayan nd changed 2 odo until today in 2 yrs of purchasing my bike, since it was in warranty the company changed it, but now after viewing your video I'm thankful to you, in case if I face the same again in my new odo meter I can do it my self, because my 2 yr warranty for the bike has completed, nd RE will not bother anymore if I have the issue...thank you brother.

    Looking through your videos this morning as I noticed that my speedo cover had a touch of moisture inside it. So I found this one and immediately took the dash all apart as you suggested. I put in a small bag of white rice in a fabric bag just below the speedo out of sight. My son fixes iPhones that people get wet by drying them out with rice bags. So I think it will work well. Thanks for the easy to follow guide!

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks mate. Yes indeed, a small sachet of rice bag can absorb a lot of moister. Just tighten the screws. You can also use silicon bags that we get in leather apparel. That will do even better job. Idea is to seal the case properly so no moisture finds it's way in. #enfield are you listening.

      Thanks mate, it's my pleasure. But for only noise issue first please check the head light bezel, try fitting multiple tape layers or small rubber cut out between plastic dome and bezel contact areas where you see scratches.
      I had meter trouble too the the vibration was shaving off the inerts of console and collecting plastic shaving in powder form on the inside of console glass🙃

    Man, you have the best Himalayan videos on CZcams for sure! By any chance have you ever had the Odometer backlight go out (the actual lower portion that shows the mileage)? I'd love to be able to fix mine rather than replace the entire instrument cluster, however no one seems to have a fix. I has to be a loose connection somewhere because mine at least will come back on for short bursts if the road is bumpy enough!

      czcams.com/video/bsvX3RE-BQI/video.html
      Next would be head light bazel, tighten if need, and yes giving this meter thing a shot did help me contain some vibrations and associated noise too

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey mate, sorry for late response. As forvthe trick. We'll, take a nose plier, wrap the tips in cloth, grip the niddle, apply mild pressure and wiggle the needle out. Just not too much pressure or else there is a risk of breaking it. Plier will aid in better grip. Cheers

    • @brichardsonii7954
      @brichardsonii7954 Před 2 lety +1

      @@leuheanrede thanks for the tip. I ended up needing to use a regular plier and applying way too much force for comfort. Luckily I did not break anything in the process but there was a real risk of that happening. In the end my problem was an actual part of the white plastic board that holds the screws at the leftmost end of the pannel having broken off. That screw had come off and was completely loose inside the casing in the last stage of this repair, behind all the gauges. I had to glue the screw thread back together and just tighten it slightly so it would stay in place. For now it is fixed but I would not want to do it again. Thanks again for all the help.

      Yes it's firmly in and not cracked. It works but starting point is well below the red line and the ending point is before the last reading on a full tank. I tried adjusting but it freely rotates

      I just read previous posts, you're right.. If RE never corrected the design fault, correct it yourself! Himalayan reminds me of the old user friendly low tech split window VW vans.. half the fun was in developing a working relationship. Try that with the more complex/reliable character free Japanese bikes.. they don't need you. The Himalayan is like an old friend. It teaches you the importand lessons in life like.. learning how to fix it yourself! 😊

    Hey, very informative, have same problems but additionally a flying stone off gravel road hit and broke one of the viewing windows (covering fuel/compass gauges). You can easily get here in NZ a whole unit but no-one is selling just the console unit covers. Can anyone help me? I don't really want a whole new unit. The bike has done 25K and I like it to be like that! The cover can come off a faulty unit that was replaced but has an undamaged cover. My Himalayan is a carbureted BS3, hence the unit has 5 indicator lights/mini windows, not 6 as it is on BS4/Injected/ABS models. Once I have a replacement cover I will try to fix the rattle as well!

      @leuheanrede  Před 4 lety

      Its ruined mate, you need to buy a new one now 😕
      Naah just kidding. Fret not. First thing. Disconnect and reconnect the coupler that connects to speedo console. Before reconnecting, switch on the ignition for 5-10 secs.
      If that still doesn't work. Reopen the console, very carefully/gingerly, and notice the brown copper colored cable harness connected to bottom of that LCD display. Make sure it is evenly aligned. If not, again gingerly pry it back in.
      Be very careful and close it up. All should be ok once you switch the ignition on. Cheers :)
