- After spending two and a half months in Thailand we finally made our way to country number four of our trip Sri Lanka.
We travelled to Colombo, Sri Lanka and after a couple of days working on the channel we hired a guide and took to the streets of Colombo to try some incredible street food tour of the city. Watch us eat all the amazing food we can get our hands on as we travel the capital of this stunning country.

Originally from the Wirral, North West England we got married in 2012. After a few trips abroad we caught the #travel bug. In 2019 after 6 weeks in Japan we decided we were going to quit our jobs and take some time out to travel full time. After many delays due to the pandemic, in 2021 our dream finally came true and in November we set off on our journey.

Drink plenty of king coconuts/thambili (orange coconuts). They’re delicious, refreshing, full of electrolytes and NATIVE to Sri Lanka.
Eat lots of authentic Sri Lankan food. To name a few Sri Lankan rice and curry (so many different varieties of curries. It’s difficult to write a list of curries.), strings hoppers, hoppers (plain hoppers, egg hoppers, honey hoppers and many other types of hoppers), coconut roti, egg roti, kottu, short eats (so many different types of short eats as well. They’re great for a quick snack.) and so many more delicious food. Authentic Sri Lankan food is completely different to Indian, Thai or any other cuisine. We use different spices, ingredients, cooking techniques and methods to prepare our food.
Useful Sinhala (most used language in Sri Lanka by Sinhalese people (75%) and other minority ethnicities (25%)) words to know. You can use Sinhala in all parts of Sri Lanka. Even minority Tamils and Muslims can speak and should know Sinhala as it’s the main language of communication in Sri Lanka.
The most common and polite way to greet another person in Sri Lanka is AYUBOWAN meaning may you live long.
Good morning = subha udasanak
Good afternoon = subha madyahanak
Good evening = subha sandyavak
Good night = subha rathriyak
How are you = kohomada
Yes = ow
No = naha
Thank you = isthuthi
Thank you very much = bohoma isthuthi
Beautiful = lassanai
Tasty = rasai
Hungry = badagini
All Sri Lankan tuk tuks (three wheelers) have meters. Always ask the driver to turn the meter on before you start a journey. Some drivers try their luck and don’t turn the meter on and charge whatever they feel like. Legally they must turn the meter on before every journey. If you don’t mind them not turning the meter on, then agree on a price before you get into the taxi. Less hassle. Feel free to tip.
In general, the vast majority of Sri Lankans are very honest, helpful, friendly, polite and won’t try to scam others but unfortunately, every country has a handful of black sheep.

Thank you for your lovely comment, we always try to judge the each situation as sometimes the local people can be a little intimidated by the big camera and microphone! We also have a very large gimbal too, so everything looks a bit scary 😊 moving forward though, we will try to get more local interactions because they are all so friendly and lovely 😊

New subscriber here! Great content ! Interact with the locals more! Just an idea! Transitions are too quick ! Make the video more raw without lots of cuts and edits ! Talk with the locals , don’t rush! Also. Please upload lot of videos ! Once in 5 days is like way too not enough. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for your advice 😊 we are hopefully going to do 2 videos a week if we can, we are spending a month in sri lanka so hopefully we can see alot 😊 we always try to judge the situation with the locals, as some don't seem so confident when we put a big camera on them. Our camera is very big and the microphone is also very big, so sometimes it can be a little intimidating. We will try to get more reactions with locals in the future though, because they are all so friendly and lovely 😄
