  • The best garden paint for wood, could well be Cuprinol Garden Shades paint.
Having tried the Ronseal Fence Life Plus+ last year and not being too impressed with 4 coats and 13months later not looking good.
Cuprinol Garden Shades has now been applied.

Give me the Cuprinol Garden Shades any day. Just used Natural Stone over naff Brown (Red), 2 coats easy to apply & it's looking good. Last year used the Ronseal Brown over Brown covered ok but nasty to work with. Looking forward to the Masonry video, have lots of effervescence to deal with this summer.

Dulux Opaque is the best exterior timber paint I’ve used.
Very pricey but goes a long way. Coverage is excellent. Mixed from DULUX 5L is around £80, used correctly 10yr guarantee. Water based. I’ve used the oil based also, amazing stuff, covers weathered timber in 1 coat. Ronseal would take 4 coats maybe 5. I only use the Ducksback if using on fencing.
    Cheers

Here’s the opaque against Wicks own brand, I was using the own brand just to coat the inside of a shed, filmed a quick comparison czcams.com/users/shortsl_o1464IlS0?feature=share

Have you used Tikkurila Ultra Primer (that's the Uc) and the finish which is Ultra Classic?
We used to use Sikkens BL.. then they stopped it... moved on to Tikkurila and wouldn't go back now, customer's house we used the Classic on a good number of years ago has rang to have his outside re done.. asking for the paint we used last time (Tikkurila) as it's stood up better than anything that's been applied before.

Would you use Dulux Opaque on fencing? Would it just go straight on ? And what is the liter coverage, it says up to 20, but I guess on rough saw fences it would not go as far.

I agree so many poor exterior wood coloured paints out there. Yes Cuprinol garden shades on solid wood brilliant 2 coats job done. Very difficult to find a good paint for rough sawn wood though 😕

Hi Phil, is it worth using something like Shades or Barn Paint on my paneled fencing if I can only have access to paint one side? Obviously from an aesthetic point of view it's worth it is it worthwhile from a protection point of view? Yr thoughts please? I'd think something is better than nothing perhaps?

They do come in at the higher price when it comes to doiya load of fence panels.
I usually go for something reasonable priced as you'll re do it in a number of years time.
It's more you want something to soak in and protect the surface.

I have used this paint on our summer house last about 4 years ago and it lasted quite well (I know I should have done it sooner) I would definitely recommend it, Ronseal fence paint definitely not worth the money, one other thing apart from tradition why are painters overalls white when they use so many colours that will so up

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  Před rokem

i think its they look cleaner as you'd wash them regular plus white doesn't show up and its used the most, whether it be paint of filler etc
also it's a good way to identify the decorating trade.

Do you not think an exterior stain or creosote substitute would be better on such a thick bit of wood? Always thought the products you've shown were only ever good on shiplap products.

If second coating with cuprinol do ASAP, otherwise it can skate over the first coat and worst case of fish eyes, especially on smooth timber
